No trailer this week.Jibril said:I hope you're right and they put up the trailer, online.
This is what I'm wondering.KillJade said:My most wanted film of 2009.
I already know I want to see it, so the question becomes, do I watch the trailer and ruin something for myself, or go in blind and be blown away in December?![]()
99.8% of the planet's population barely knows anything about the movie, so it isn't just you.Blablurn said:man, all these threads, all the hype. and i barely know anything about the movie. still looking forward to. i just don't know why.
It'll take a lot for this movie to be a better science-fiction film than 2001: A Space Odyssey.Razorback PT said:I am fully expecting this to be the most amazing movie ever made, but I see where the doubters are coming from, they need to see it to believe it.
critch said:When the hell did I champion Transformers 2? Only thing i've said about that is that it's going to hit 400 and would shut up all the haters who think that somehow it's a failure. I liked it but it's not my favorite movie of even the past month.
Cameron hasn't made a movie in a decade. Everything that has been talked about for Avatar reminds me very much of the hype for Episode One, which is OMG EFFECTS SO AMAZING and the story is shit. Cameron has done great movies, though I think his people directing takes a back seat to his action directing, just like Lucas. So yeah, we've been here before, lets see if it turns out any different. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and Cameron's been out of the game for a long time.
I also don't like the way he's trying to push 3D and Mo-cap as this great amazing way we should be doing movies from now on. Every 3D movie that has been produced is gimmicky and wears out it's welcome quickly. Mo-Cap movies Polar Express and Beowulf look like crap. And a two and a half hour 'epic' of them together makes my head hurt.
People have been saying this was going to hit 400-500 million for a year with nothing other than it's name. I think they're wrong just like they were wrong with how Star Trek was going to perform. The audience for a movie like this, especially in the Christmas season, does not exist, and to say it's going to get anywhere close to Titanic is insanity.
If I'm wrong, I'll say so, but don't slam my opinions when yours are just as suspect.
People are going to end up being disappointed. The footage shown at comic con is not being released to the public. We have to wait for official trailer or whatever down the line whenever they announce what movie it will be attached to.Jibril said:
Yeah. Cameron is not a name director to the masses. The only director who can sell a movie on his name alone is Spielberg.Solo said:Box office wise, who is saying that? I dont think even Sculli is that crazy to think it will hit $400M. Hell, $300M domestic seems high.

We'll get plenty of impressions though, but if you expect to see what they show you'll be in for a dissapointment.

And that is what most likely the case will be. You aren't hyped to read endless aint it cool news impressions?duckroll said:So if the weekend comes and goes, and there's no Avatar trailer online or anything, and I have to be subjected to reading incoherent or retarded fanwank hyping of people who were at Comicon, what will be done to appease my anger and rage? blurry cellphone camera quality of footage being shown in 3d so it will be blurry already? Sounds awesome.DataStream said:I would be absolutely stunned if someone doesn't manage to sneak footage out of this.
40% live action, 60% cgiInnerFu said:Quick question.....is the ENTIRE movie going to be in CGI? (i.e. no real people featured what-so-ever.)...or is it just the environment and aliens that are going to be CGI while the humans will be played by real actors?
Well not to spoil much but just in caseInnerFu said:Quick question.....is the ENTIRE movie going to be in CGI? (i.e. no real people featured what-so-ever.)...or is it just the environment and aliens that are going to be CGI while the humans will be played by real actors?
I always assumed it would be real people since they keep on mentioning Sam Worthington and others in terms that would make one assume that they're actually physically acting and not just doing the voices, but it seems like i also heard somewhere that the whole thing would be animated.
I will start making sacrifices.duckroll said:So if the weekend comes and goes, and there's no Avatar trailer online or anything, and I have to be subjected to reading incoherent or retarded fanwank hyping of people who were at Comicon, what will be done to appease my anger and rage? GCX said:I'm cautiously optimistic.. Cameron is a great director but so far I haven't seen anything that would blow by mind (well actually he have seen pretty much nothing). I'd like to see a good movie and not just the official James Cameron 3D tech show since I'm not really interested in that stuff.
.Dax01 said:I'm not interested in seeing this movie in color. Black and White is more than enough for me.

Wollan said:Would be nice if Nvidia 3D vision (their new 3D tech for PC's) offered a proper Avatar 3D trailer on their website. Actually, they should offer a custom version of that movie (DL) for purchase when the time comes imho
Solo said:Cameron knows how to use effects better than anyone. He uses the effects to supplement the story, not the other way around. I dont think we should be worried about this being some hollow tech demo.
Yep, the balance of effects and story has been pretty much perfect in his past movies but still, I'm not going to give anyone a free pass because of their resume even if it was as great as Cameron's.Solo said:Cameron knows how to use effects better than anyone. I think many of us are secretly hoping for a surprise trailer. They have huge banners @ Comic-Con, people will bring camera phones for the public unveiling no doubt (stuff WILL leak), the budget is enormous and the movie is five months away. I hope, I believe.Jibril said:I was wondering. Why, just why won't they release the trailer for online viewing when they reveal it at comic-con ?

LQX said:Are you even interested in this movie? At this point you really have to go out of your way to find threads like this to know about this movie. The hype/promotion has not yet kicked in, not even a trailer. So why so down on it when it has not even had a its public unveiling yet?
critch said:The over the top "BEST MOVIE EVER WITHOUT A SINGLE FRAME OF FOOTAGE" from nowhere else but the internet just irks me I guess. The fact that it's under 5 months out now with no publicity is kinda telling.
That's what I'm hoping as well..please! :lolCeres said:I'm sure there will be leaked footage. The trick will be getting to it before it's taken down.

Cause they are showing footage of the movie not a trailer. They have no plans to show a trailer at all to anyone as far as I can tell. Hopefully they'll surprise us but its better not to expect something that they are saying they won't show because if they don't then everyone will complain.Jibril said:I was wondering. Is it Cameron? Fox is terrible at marketing movies it could be their fault.duckroll said:So why's there no trailer? What's Cameron's problem? There are trailers for movies coming out NEXT YEAR, and Avatar is due in December. Does he really feel that the best way to hype his movie up is to step into an Ubisoft conference and rant about his movie for 15 mins, instead of showing anything?
