The debut footage will be astonishing, of that I'm sure. If they can't manage a solid presentation, with this much time and care put into it at this point in development, the people managing this really are incompetent. Even bad movies can have great trailers and preview footage.

I'm not too worried about the lack of hype - many movies come out of nowhere to have huge buzz right before release. And we still have five months until the (alleged) release.

For the record, I have a raging boner for Cameron movies.
Ew.

The same was said for Titanic. Also, what about the screenings they had in Amsterdam? People were floored.

Edit: Oh, just saw your posting history. Nevermind.
But Titanic got delayed.

Well, so has Avatar. :D
But I believe there were trailers, posters, and even promotional soda cups before Titanic was pushed back. Avatar barely has a logo.

I don't believe it will get delayed though. Seems more likely that it's the marketing team's fault.

If the film doesn't debut here, with a full trailer and the beginning of a marketing blitz, I am fully convinced that this will get delayed to Summer 2010.

Fox sucks at marketing, sure, but when you have a potentially 300 million dollar budget on the line, (and insight from Cameron, I assume), you better believe that there will be some sort of marketing blitz in the coming months. If the tech actually is amazing, people will see this movie.

Yeah, just looked it up and that's apparently tops, adjusted for inflation or not. Not sure where all the money went on that one.

Adjusted for inflation the russian War and Peace had a budget of 700 million dollars :o

So about that 3D, are the 3d glasses designed to be able to be worn by people who can't see shit IRL and have to wear actual glasses. Or do we have to acquire lenses?

I wear prescription glasses and went to see a 3D movie with the 3D glasses on top of my regular glasses. Not very comfortable, I'll tell you that much.

im so afraid of my self control.

i want this to be my first movie in ages that i've gone in as blind as possible. but it's also the one movie in a long time i've been really eager to know anything about.

There's no point in there being no trailer after the presentation. Perhaps give a day or 2 for the orgasmic impressions to float throughout the nets and then BAM.

I've always wondered how that worked, actually. Can't imagine it's the funnest thing in the world. I wear glasses at home sometimes but contacts when I'm out.

Bust out the contacts, jett!

Tried wearing contacts once, I prefer my glasses. :P And I prefer my movies in 2D as well.

Avatar is supposed to change the way we look at 3D movies, mang.

Believe.

I've actually never in my life seen a 3D film in the theaters. Might as well wait for Avatar to pop that cherry. :P

So why's there no trailer? What's Cameron's problem? There are trailers for movies coming out NEXT YEAR, and Avatar is due in December. Does he really feel that the best way to hype his movie up is to step into an Ubisoft conference and rant about his movie for 15 mins, instead of showing anything?

wasnt the first trailer for jurassic park released just months before the film?

Set your expectations to low.

I can confirm this. Fortunately, I'm a contact lens guy 98% of the time I'm out.

I still dislike 3D glasses though, and I regret the loss in picture quality. Nothing so far has lead me to believe the technology is anything more than a gimmick. Avatar better be fucking enlightening.

I doubt it to be honest, this is one thing I have absolutely no faith in Avatar, that it's gonna be some sort of paradigm shift in 3D filmmaking. The technology is just too fucking shitty, nothing Cameron does can change that.

i passed off 3d stuff as a gimmick until i saw Ice Age 3 - when it's used subtly, to enhance rather than to show off, it works well.

every impression of Avatar so far has been very positive. instead of wasting negative energy trying to imagine how shitty it could be like some here, i'm hoping it'll be something pretty amazing. if not, whatever - it's just a movie :P

Hopefully it's just as good in regular 2-D, since I am also a glasses wearer, though, TBH, I have been able to wear 3-D glasses over the regular ones typically just fine, as long as they have one for glasses-wearers.

To be honest. I don't care about that 3D stuff. The CGI is supposedly mindblowing. A good 2D trailer should be enough to show us.

At this point, I have complete faith in Cameron. Now he just needs to give us a fucking trailer, and all will be well.

I thought it was common knowledge that it would be shown at Comic Con? I heard of the date a month ago. Should still be true. Unless it's only the game that will be shown:|

Or Cameron comes on and just spoils the entire movie again for 30 minutes, without showing a single thing. lol

Any leaked footage is pointless since it will be in 3D. We all want a normal trailer to go out soon.

I can't see there being an actual trailer for Tron 2 -- it has way too much post-production ahead for Disney to show much of anything. Maybe they'll show the teaser from last year in 3D (and maybe they'll finally release a direct feed version to the public).

I remember the delays from Titanic, about how the budget was skyrocketing.

Fuck me, after Avatar it's going to be 20 years until he finishes Battle Angel.

If Avatar is a big success we are never going to see Battle Angel, I bet Cameron will jump right into Avatar II: Electric Sculliboo

Space Marines, with hair, from The Matrix. I think these walker mechas are way too Matrix like, people won't like that, it will feel cheap/ripoff-ish in people's minds.

I still think this movie won't do that well, just cause it's sci-fi.

You forgot paraplegics.
Seeing more now. The concept doesn't seem that well thought out at all. :|

This is getting kinda sad. We're seeing Avatar toys and we haven't seen even one offical picture from the movie, or hell an official production photo.

I mean shieeeeeet TR2N is a 2011 movie and we already have a conceptual teaser and viral websites.
