Alien 3 (the long cut) is a cool movie of its own. Not in the same league as the first two but at least it captures an atmosphere that's fitting the series. As far as I know they had several problems filming it but I don't remember for sure. I need to rewatch the making-of again. (I think the DVD bonus material of the special editions is awesome.)
 
When you watch Alien 3, please know that it has a few unfinished parts. There are a couple of scenes in the film where the audio wasn't looped or finalized, so subtitles pop up when the characters start talking.

I once used Alien 3 as an example in my media class as to why actors have too much power and should be treated like indentured servants, much like how they were treated in the 20's and 30's. Believe me, Sigourney Weaver should be shouldering her fair share of blame for how Alien 3 & 4 turned out.

Her only mistake was agreeing to appear in them. From the opening credits of Alien 3 onward, they flushed the series down the john.
 
She had too much say into how the script was shaped. I hate it when actors fuck around with a script. If you don't like the script, don't agree to do the movie. Don't agree to sign on then bitch about the script. Mel Gibson did this too in Payback and it ended up royally fucking the director.

The Alien franchise is about the monsters, not Ripley. It's a shame it took Fox so long to figure it out.

I don't think Alien 3 is that bad a film. It's not anywhere near the same quality of the first two, but it's a watchable, enjoyable film. Fincher did a great job considering all the bullshit he had to deal with.

Alien Resurrection was just plain fucking bad, though. That film was a total abomination. Joss Whedon should be ashamed of himself.

He only wrote the script. He didn't design the newborn or cast Winona Ryder. The movie looked way too stylized to be an Alien movie.
 
Alright, lets just debunk the whole 'there hasn't been any trailer because Cameron has turned down several cuts in the last 6 months' rumour that was being shopped around. There was no trailer because there was no finished footage. All the footage had essentially been shot and cut, but hadn't yet come back from the renderfarm - thus there was simply wasn't enough finished footage to put a trailer together with.

Nobody has any idea on whose in charge of this marketing campaign, but I would be very surprised if it was Cameron.

I haven't even said anything bad recently! Unless you count the Battle Angel Alita stuff, but that has nothing to do with Avatar. I really don't think Cameron's suited for it.

I'm not even a hater either, just a realistic doubter, especially when 99% of the people blowing their loads over this one thought Star Trek was amazing cinema.

I'm not joining the circle(jerk) of love until I see a trailer, and even then, who knows. The 3D is going to take seeing the entire film and a lot of theoretical hoop-jumping on Cameron's part to get me on board.

I just saw that trailer a few days ago and it's AMAZING!

I cannot describe the way that reading the scriptment has grabbed my soul.
Every waking hour I find myself imagining Pandora.

I was at work today just thinking about all the wonder and beauty this world contains.

I don't fucking even give a shit anymore about the movie. Nothing will live up to the way I've imagined this place. I would give up anything to become a part of this world.

Hey, everyone. I was at the Avatar panel, though due to lack of internet access, I was unable to post my impressions. I have not read through any of these twenty-six pages.

I was excited for Avatar, but I was fucking blown the god-fuck-damn away by this shit. Fuck. My posse nine-deep, normally obnoxious, wise-cracking assholes, were literally speechless when the lights came on. As was I.

The world of Pandora is possibly the most beautifully realized fantasy world in the history of cinema, or anything, ever. Beyond the incredible creativity behind each and every bit of flora and fauna, beyond the technical geniuses who made them come to life, beyond the absolutely essential 3-D technology (seriously, anyone who sees this movie in 2-D is a fucking twat), beyond any single component of the world was an unparalleled sense of wonder, and a horrible longing to visit a place that we know, logically, cannot exist. I almost wanted to beat the fuck out of Cameron for making this world, and showing it to me, this place I can never go.

The acting was spot on, the the Naavi seemed as real as any human character. The casting is flawless. There isn't much to say here. I believed every syllable coming out of their human-or-otherwise mouths.

The scenes gave a good overview, more or less, of the film's plot, which appears to be Fern Gully with a much darker and mature overtones. This is probably a gross oversimplification, but I cannot much comment on the full storyline. But hey, I loved Fern Gully.

Also of note were the sweet Avatar banners hanging from the streetlights in downtown San Diego. They were so sweet, I decided to fucking steal one, so my two friends and I, on Sunday night, found a sidestreet, created some kind of bizarre pyramid out of random shit on the sidewalk, and took down a triple of these canvas prints. They are awesome and I will never sell them to you, ever, so do not ask.

I'd have to say yes, in general. Applause was crazy, anyway.

Yeah, I'm almost sad that I saw the 24 minutes at all...curse my weak willpower! But it's okay. There will be so much awesome, having seen some of it will not affect me greatly.

You know, I was thinking that with this new performance (specifically the facial) capture tech that Cameron and co have developed, age in a film for an actor could be dispelled in regard to what they can play. Just think, even though it won't happen, we could get a Terminator film with Kyle Reese once again played by the Biehn machine.

No matter what you may think of Devin he is at least articulate and able to explain and justify his thoughts.

The fact of the matter is that Avatar is not doubt impressive, but to him it's not the massive shift in the way we see cinema that people have been endlessly crowing about.

I haven't seen any footage myself but it doesn't surprise me if Avatar doesn't live up to the near impossible standards that Cameron himself set for it.

Remember, he's seen the footage and is entitled to his opinion. Surely having an opinion isn't trolling?

Honestly, FOX isn't doing this film any justice. The general public will be exactly like this. Although, on the other hand, a lot of young people might go see this movie, thinking it's the Last Airbender.
 
While the prospect of a Cameron directed Battle Angle Alita film does sound interesting what do people think of a James Cameron directed remake of Forbidden Planet as has been endlessly rumoured?

While it might be a little soon after Avatar to tackle another big budget sci-fi project after Avatar it would be interesting all the same.

I have a feeling that Cameron is very tightly controlling the marketing of this film. That would explain all the laughable reveals of Avatar artwork and characters thus far.

The fact our first look of this film was a screnshot from a crappy Ubisoft video game and some cheap looking action figures speaks volumes.

If the studio was fully in control we would never have had such a spotty, bizarre marketing campaign.
 
Agreed. At the end of the day, it's actually better we don't see too much of it.

I wouldn't be so sure. His follow up to Robin Hood may not be sci-fi. He has a tendency to announce like 928492844 films before picking his next one. He takes a long time to commit to a picture. As of today his next movie is most likely going to be The Kind One. A crime movie starring Casey Affleck.

He's been after the rights to the sci-fi film for years I think. It might have inspired him to do it next, but he's been after it for ages.

It seemed that way like last year but he seems to be going another way recently. He could end up doing it because he seems to always change his mind but most recently he has been pushing towards the 1930's period drama with Casey Affleck as his next film.

I'd love to see him do sci-fi, he is one of my favorite directors working today, Blade Runner is one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time...etc but all indications seem to be as of today that his next film is not Forever War.
 
James Cameron is insanely cocky and has a gigantic ego but he is a great director so it is ok. It's hilarious though. I was seeing some interview from comic con and his ego came out pretty strong. :lol

Interviewer: So you have directed one of the highest grossing movies of all time-
Cameron: THE highest grossing.
Interviewer: Yeah.
Cameron: Around half a billion more than the #2 film.
Interviewer: Yeah, of course. So-
Cameron: I just want to make sure you have the facts right.


He is crazy but as long as he makes good movies who cares?
