Has the hype for this movie exceeded the hype for Godzilla'98 and The Phantom Menace yet? :lol
If we're talking internet hype, I'd say it's about Grindhouse level.

If we're talking real world hype, it's about Grindhouse level.

I was never really hyped for a movie but if I could travel back in time I would tell my young self to be excited for every cameron movie that came out after my birth. :P I'm almost 100% sure Avatar is going to be awesome.:lol So yes, I'm hyped but I don't know how big the general hype was for the films you mentioned.:D

Honestly? If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't know Avatar from a hole in the wall and originally I assumed it was regarding that Nickelodeon cartoon too. There is zero hype for me outside James Cameron directing an experimental sci-fi movie. I had heard of the film years ago (When Arnold was attached) but never anything amazing.

I've learned a long time ago not to get excited about films such as this anymore.

I do find it ridiculously pompous of Cameron not to be advertising this film though, especially given its budget. I think 'the king of the world' is just assuming $600 million US intake based on his name alone. :D

Nothing will ever top Phantom Menace. When you have something come out that has national news stories saying how there's going to be a mass work shortage because people are going to ditch to go see your movie, THEN you can say you've equaled Phantom Menace.

Last Harry Potter book was probably the closest thing to come close hype wise.

Man I so want to see this right now. It's like the feeling you get when you go to the toilet and you were able hold back for hours but suddenly you need a release in the next few moments because otherwise you'll burst.

Are you saying this movie is going to be shit, or piss?

Bonus question - is that Frank Zappa? If so, gaf needs to know that Jumbo Go Away is the greatest anti-fat chick song ever created.

It predates Fat Princess by 30 years. I believe in my heart it was a post-ironic satirical political reaction to Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls - in the same way Sweet Home Alabama was a response to Southern Man.

I'm saying I need the trailer just like I need a good piss (or shit) after a long hardworking day. :D Next week, finally...I hope it's not a short teaser that's not showing anything.

Yep, that's Zappa.:D That song is awesome just as almost everything he did. :) His lyrics are always something special. Also his music, I especially love the slime:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keKfnjeKHao. It's my ringtone. I just love the melody :lol Tomorrow I'm going to see a concert on a small memorial jazzfestival with one of his best drummers, Terry Bozzio. Can't wait. [/off-topic]

I just bought a shit ton of Zappa music right this second and am beginning a musical renaissance thanks to your avatar. I owe you a beer. Weird fact: My dad and brother-in-law met him a cuple of decades ago. My brother in law was a roadie.

Haha, very cool. :) He did so much music...Personally I have only scratched the surface for years but have been digging deeper for some time now. :) Have fun with your new old music! I'll go to bed now, listening to some Zoot Allures...and I'll stop being off-topic before anyone gets angry. ;)
Back to Avatar...yes, Avatar. Can't wait etc.

For anyone wondering, I've confirmed with Apple that the teaser is counting down to 7 AM Thursday PDT.

On the 20th, adjust your time-zone accordingly.

...so it's a day early?

So Apple is going to debut the trailer online an entire day before AVATAR Day? :lol
Is this true or a mistake?
It seems kind of fishy.

I keep expecting the trailer to just be 2 minutes of James Cameron explaining how awesome this movie is gonna be and all the tech involved to make it, with no actual footage attached.

Well it actually makes the trailer debut to be exactly midnight (start of the 21st) Sydney, Autralia time. So it hits on the 21st exactly here. :D
It'll be 7am on the 20th here. My birthday in fact.

Could be worse, could be text & music only.

Releasing the trailer early online is, I think, a wise move. Fox probably realized that someone would play the trailer as soon as it arrived in their cinema, film it, and put it online, ruining Avatar Day. It would be better that people's first look at footage from the film be in Quicktime HD.
Avatar Day still has the trailer debut in cinemas, the 16 minute preview madness, and the merchandise and game unveilings.

Anyway, I've heard the trailer runs 2:08.

Also, the Neytiri poster is bad. There's so much that could have been done with the poster, and yet...that?

Yeah but it's still before Avatar Day actually happens. Which means it goes online for everyone way before any cinema will screen the footage, or the trailer, or anything. Kinda sad! :lol

Why I find the fact that Scullibundo doesn't know Cameron's Birthday highly disturbing I don't know.
What I do know is that this has ruined my day and I leave this thread disgusted.
