Avengers 2 and Superhero Fatigue

Like many of you, I had the chance to see the Age of Ultron. It was a good movie, I would even put it on par with the first one. However, I noticed that after leaving the theatre that I needed to take a break from the Superhero subculture that has formed over the last couple of years.

I was fatigued. Im not sure if its because of how formulaic I find the Marvel movies or if the bubble is starting to pop. I have no outstanding desire to see Ant-Man (But I still will) or any other film based on a comic really At least for a very long time.

Anyone else feel this way?.

I get fatigue just from constantly hearing about the hype machine for the next superhero movie, Marvel has done a brilliant job at having fans constantly being hyped for the next Marvel movie just around the corner

edit: Not hating on superhero movies themselves

I'm looking forward to BvS, Suicide Squad and Black Panther, but zero interest in Ant Man. Guess it depends on the project for me. I didn't like Avengers 2 overall, but that's more Whedon fatigue than anything else.

I'm mostly just tired of origin stories.

I'm more excited for what the russo brothers bring to the avengers after seeing ca the winter soldier.

I got the fatigue long time ago and am now at a point where I simply couldn't care less about superhero movies anymore.

Hollywood will continue to churn them out though as long as they make money, so we're in it for a while.

I have superhero film thread fatigue. ;)

I'm still going to relish the fact that these movies are happening, regardless of whether or not they are being mass produced. It's something that can hold my attention and really grab me visually. I don't know what I'd turn to, if they suddenly fell off and stopped.

I don't entirely understand this. Personally I never read comic books as a cook, I don't know how anyone is, really. The only thing I know about the characters in these films is what's presented to me on the screen. I think this helps in not getting me quivering at the cock for the next installment, because they really are just like any other franchise to me. I don't feel the "hype train" because, whilst I hang about on GAF before E3 and read day after day people's expectations or leaked news, I don't do the same for super hero movies. So I'm not entirely sure how, unless you choose to surround yourself with it, you even notice the hype (except for the week or so before launch when the cast turns up on chat shows constantly).

Few people are fatigued by superhero movies - the age of Marvel is done lololololol

Am I doing that right?

On a serious note, it is bound to happen.

I don't see superhero fatigue, but maybe Whedon fatigue. His formula had gotten a little stale. Not that it's bad, people just want the next winter soldier and something that moves the story line further and not just something that reinforces what we already know.

I love superheroes, but I'm getting tired. The Marvel films are continuing until at least 2019, with TV shows as well and DC have their upcoming slate and shows. Shit, Fox have their stuff as well. There's just too much.

Yea it's BEEN too much.
I like daredevil tv show and I liked Batman.
The rest I don't care for.

I'd be down for a better reboot of Xmen though.
And bring back Spawn

Yup. Got tired of them last year. I don't plan to see any this year. And maybe the only one I will watch next year is SS.

but next year has civil war

and batman vs superman

and x-men apocalypse

and suicide squad

Yeah next year looks much better. Russo Brothers will deliver Marvel at it's finest, BvS and Suicide Squad will each do their own thing and Singer X-Men is almost always solid with years of established history/characters. Good variety for my tastes.

I grew up reading Marvel comics and watching Marvel cartoons. I was beyond hyped when Spider-Man first came out but now, 13 years later, I'm not going to bother watching Avengers 2 due to fatigue. I still enjoy some superhero movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and the Daredevil series, but I can't get hyped or even watch every single one.

There's a wealth of superhero action flicks that, to me, are above average. This pleases me and hasn't caused me to step away from the "subculture" in any way. I'm personally looking forward to every Marvel and DC release over the next few years.

I don't entirely understand this. Personally I never read comic books as a cook,

I know this was an autocorrect flub but man this cracked me up :-)

Kinda tired of them myself, which I think is part of why I'm uninterested in BvS. The DC movies just haven't been FUN like the Marvel ones have been for the most part. So I'll just focus on those.

The movies are dope, I love seeing super powered ppl fight and plus all the characters are dope af. I aint getting sick of em anytime soon.

Yes very much so. I even have no interest in the Avengers 2. I did very much like the Daredevil series. Well up until the point he donned his Dd suit. Then I groaned.

I felt a bit fatigued by the genre with this film, yeah.

My main problems though were poor pacing, way too much quipping, and a really wasted plot and main villain due to it being a "setup the next films" movie. It had redeeming parts, but felt oddly mechanical, like a "contractual obligation film" for most of the returning cast, except Hawkeye and the new blood.

Just couldn't get into it, and I fully expected to love it, but it was just too "safe". No civilians really died, and the stakes never seemed high.

We need a superhero film from Marvel that actually takes some risks like Winter Soldier did, but even that had status quo largely in place by the end, and everybody walked away safe and sound. But it didn't feel like it would be that way, because it was a tense thriller.

The fact that nothing bad happens to the heroes or most civilians reminds me of the 80s GI Joe cartoon where everyone always "escapes" before the an explosion. It's getting a bit tiresome.

They're a genre, they're not going away. Bad ones will make less money and make you feel less enthused about them. But a kickass one is usually around the corner.

Nope love them. Jaded people gonna be jaded

Is this the narrative going forward, that people expressing this are just jaded? In turn, since you love them, I can assume that you love every single one and are some sort of uncritical fanatic whose opinion lies north of whatever the opposite extreme of jaded is?

Nah.

I really don't mind spending 4-8 hours a year watching new comic book movies.

Pretty much every single season of a tv show is more time consuming than that.

So no: No fatigue. I still enjoy them, as long as they're good.

Not at all.

As long as they can keep putting out quality movies that keep doing fun and interesting things, I'm all for it. Each super hero movie is something different and the only real sequels that are similar are only once every three years.

I had the opposite actually. I came out of the movie and was like "HELL YEA! Now let me go play some superhero video... games...... :(" There aren't any to play :(

Only thing i am looking forward to at the moment is Deadpool seeing those photo's movie is gonna be a blast and 1 on 1 with the costume is amazing.

Well, before Avengers 2 i was thinking "I think this is the last time i will watch a superhero movie on the theaters." because i wasnt exactly excited about it

Anyway

I was reading an article at Cracked about cancelled scripts for superhero movies, and there was one for Fantastic Four that could have been something incredible

It would star John C Reilly as The Thing, Paul Walker as the Human Torch and (forgot the rest, -EDIT- but the year was 2002). Whats really interesting is that the movie was supposed to be not an origin story, but a situation in which the Fantastic Four is a celebrity family, they save the world and have to flee from fans chasing em (the article mentions A Hard Day´s Night) and then when they get together at home they argue and fight a lot between them.

It sounds like a great idea, it also sound a lot like the F4 comics i read in my life.

But, as always, superhero movies are more interested in create a big origin plot with a big light shooting for the sky in the end and hints for the sequels than making something new

Ps: i liked AOU a lot. I want to watch it again someday. But even so, im kinda tired.

I had the opposite actually. I came out of the movie and was like "HELL YEA! Now let me go play some superhero video... games...... :(" There aren't any to play :(

Go play the wonderful 101. Better than any recent marvel videogame.

In the end, people are complaining about 4-5 films a year out of well over 100 ultrawide movie releases.

I think most superhero films are just OK and I am past the point where I feel like I need to see every one in theatres, but the fatigue talk makes it seem like we are getting 2-3 a week rather than 2-3 a summer.

There isn't Fatigue because there are so many Superhero Movies im loving it, there is Fatigue due to how fucking similar they all are. Daredevil is probably the most interesting use of a Marvel IP I have ever seen so far, and I frankly Hope there is less of Push towards *Superhero Movies* and more towards a Tv Format. Get a Bigger Budget, get better writers, make them its own thing. Its fine to Have these individual Superheros Team up and Shit when they need to, but when the Movies are exactly the same fucking formula it gets really tiring.
Loved Daredevil, Loving The Flash. Give me more of this!

Nah, I'm never fatigued. What a spoiled point of view. You get content in the spades and you get 'fedup' of it later.

I'm loving all the Superhero goodness we are getting.

1st world problems.

I'm fatigued in the sense that I don't get excited for them like I used to, but I've still seen each new Marvel movie and have enjoyed them. If the movies sucked it would be a real bummer, but as long as they are still pretty good then I don't mind them still making them.

I didn't see the new Superman movie and haven't seen any of the new X-Men movies yet, though.

As long as the superhero stuff that comes out keeps being entertaining, I'll be there.

I mean you don't have to watch all of them that come out. I find this whole thought process to be a bit strange.

While I didn't think Avengers 2 was that great compare to the first one, I am still excited to see Ant-Man and the rest of the other MCU.

I know that I will be dying to see Captain America Civil Wars as Spider-Man will in it.
