I just want to know where they will have him get the powers from and then suddenly be a threat that makes thanos seem like a cup of tea.

I haven't seen many of the recent movies but was there anything about the Beyonders even hinted at?

Isn't there a comic image where Doom kills Thanos? I guess they could have Doom destroy some villain like Galactus or Megatron to establish how powerful he is.

Gambit is an Alpha level mutant, he can hold his own.

Shang-Chi was also heavily watered down in the movie.

It depends. There are things comic Doom has done that would make him stronger, but it's more of an exception and not his regular status.

I'm assuming they'll have a convoluted reason in the movie(s) for why Doom is so strong here.

It would actually be good to have a plan work rather than just some dumb luck and it works out.

I guess the big issue is what is Doom's motivation? Why would he want to destroy the avengers or Earth. Thanos was just an environmentalist. Maybe Dr Doom could be invested big in Iranian oil.
 
I feel it's okay-ish all things considered. I'm happy to see the X-men here and Cyclops getting a proper adaptation. the remaining old guards are good to see too but I do not care about any of the "new" characters. the Cap reveal with the hammer is a good way to work it at least. also, is that RDJ doing the accent for Doom at the start? I think I'll need to hear more before I can decide if I like it or not.

side note: outside of Fantastic 4's end credit, had Doom appeared in any of the new movies/shows at all? had not really watch that many of the new movies.
 
I liked the trailer. I do not like Evans with long hair and wearing clothes. Ok, I can live with the hair but not the clothes. Take them off!

The best thing they can do is have him kill all these new characters they created so they can reboot Marvel with new heroes that people care about. Shuri, fake widow, etc.

lol MCU power scaling is all over the place. They did the 2 fingered block because thanos almost got his head chop off?

So are the leaks true?

cap fucking about in the past, caused an incursion and destroyed doom universe. so he goes out to seek revenge by pretending to be the saviour recruiting avengers? before stealing franklin powers to create the only universe and resurrect his family

This film is just the set up to Secret Wars. That film is going to be......something.

Hickman nailed Secret Wars in his absolutely goated Avengers run, but what works in comics doesn't mean it'll translate well to film.

Secret Wars is so bat shit crazy that I don't know how they're going to do it. It'll make sense for comic fans, but for the general audience might find it a tad over the top.
 
i mean it certainly does look like plastic toys smashing together...

is there any substance though, it's gonna be hard to squeeze blood from this multiverse orange.

Nope, there's no real substance to this. Exposition voiceover and look at all these characters.

It seems to have worked on some people here.
 
I will watch it, but I am not hyped for it like any of the older movies. They didn't have any leadup to this and I think they may be trying to cram too many characters into one movie. It's fan service on top of fan service, but doesn't really hit anymore.

It comes out the same day as Dune 3. I am more interested in that.

All the Avengers trailers, especially Age of Ultron, Civil War, and Infinity War first trailers were legendary internet shattering events. Age Of Ultron was one of those "the trailer was better than the movie" trailers.

Grant Morrison New X-Men, Spiderverse 2014 and Secret Wars 2015 are the comics that got me into Superhero comics. If Doomsday and Secret Wars is able to adapt the craziness of the Hickman's Secret Wars, it's gonna to be INSANE

I want to go back and read all the Hickman stuff that sets up Secret Wars 2015 and than reread Secret Wars but this time include all tie in issues like Battleworld into the mix. I heard the lead up to Secret Wars is legendary. I've been looking at reading guides and they been telling me to start with his Secret Warriors run first

When it comes to Marvel Comic Events, Hickman Secret Wars I still consider the best I have read. It's just too bad the comics that came after ended up being mostly crap. Really was interesting to see how fast the decline happened after Hickman's Secret Wars. I do like some stuff but Pre Hickman Secret Wars, Marvel Comics was much more consistent when it came to delivering great stories
 
The ultimate slop test, virtually all the new heroes suck.

Doom just appearing and being ultra powered is meh.

I really hope we are gonna get proper Captain America and not all civilian Captain America, as in the leak.

I've been looking at the omnibuses and using Grok to make me a reading guide involving all the omnibuses. It told me to start with Secret Warriors. I'm going back to finishing up X-Men Krakoa Era, than I'm doing Marvel Cosmic Annilihilation Era and than Garth Ennis Punisher Run. Than I'll start that whole Lead Up to Secret Wars/Secret Wars read

It's almost childish, the writer wanted to hype a character so he makes up cheesy overdramatic moments.

Next they are gonna make Captain Darkstar or something, that will fuck up Dr. Doom even worse than this, and you all will go "Wow he is so powerful wow". Rinse and repeat.

It's weird how some characters they'll recast without a word said, but others they just outright refuse to recast. I still think Shuri being the new Black Panther was an atrocious choice instead of just recasting

I think the biggest character they recast after Iron Man was Terrence Howard as James Rhodes? But Perlmutter was rumoured to be involved in that and he got kicked out of Marvel. The reason not to recast iconic characters is to avoid their replacements being seen as Temu knockoffs. Like the Avengers video game cast. Besides which, I think Marvel probably wanted to do a reset anyway after phases four and five crashed and burned.

I always found it weird how they would recast some characters like Thunderbolt Ross, James Rhodes and Bruce Banner but T'Challa and Kang they didn't
 
Will probably wait for streaming, although I've had fun watching MCU stuff in theaters even if I don't think any of it is that great.

Dune 3 overshadows this for me as far as movies I'm looking forward to that I'll definitely see in the theater.

There is context behind this.

Standard vanilla Doom wouldn't be able to do this. But this "God Emperor" Doom who had absorbed the energy of the Beyonders.

It may sound tacky, but Hickman turned it into an absolute epic. There is a reason why his Avengers run that leads to Secret Wars is regarded as one of the greatest comic runs in history.

Boseman died right at the height of "respect the role the actor created!" hype. Had it happened a few years earlier or later then I don't think anyone would have blinked had they recast. I certainly didn't think he was some unique talent with this character. Kang was a bit weird, I think they didn't want to deal with the actor throwing bad PR their way if they dumped him and he turned out to be innocent (which I think he eventually was??) and contractually they probably had to pay him more if they recast versus just drop the character entirely. Plus Ant-man 3 was a fat wet flop and Kang didn't seem to resonate with fans, I don't think.
 
Very clever how they hid the sequel number in the title: AVengers: Doomsday. Bravo, Fiege.

I unconsciously checked my work email while that trailer was playing. Probably a sign of my attention span and interest in this movie. It looks aight.

My thoughts on MCU Kang, I actually thought he would have been a good threat if they actually made him scary like Thanos. I liked how he was introduced in Loki Season 1 but I'm personally was never a fan of the actor. I'm just curious to see how this reboot will look like once Avengers Secret Wars is released

I'm hoping we get cast announcements for the X-Men movie at SDDC 2026
 
I haven't kept a close eye on production at all, but from everything I've heard and seen (including this trailer), this seems like it's going to be a hot mess.
