I think that's the point though, as others said above. Despite whatever Laramie's past is, people think that shouldn't have been the "final nail" because there was nothing wrong with what he said.

WTF? I just looked. Someone deleted like.. every single post related to what he said, after it got locked yesterday. Obviously people are going to talk about it when something weird like that happens.

No - it got locked, wiped, reopened, then bumped again, and a bunch of people posted, and it got wiped a second time, and that's what you see now.

Also Laramie's account name was changed to Umino.

Who is this Laramine you speak of? Gaf never had poster with such a handle, as a quick search can attest: he is just a figment of your imagination.

I've been banned twice. Can't remember why the first time (any way to check?), second time was for saying Major Nelson was a a fat pedo or something along those lines over in gaming-discussion.

I don't know if it's true or not but I've heard somebody once got banned for posting fanfiction based on Neogaf.

Hearing some of these stories almost makes me wonder if we need our own Neogaf Mythbusters to sort things out.

The only myth posted was Drinky = jackfrost, and that was already busted
 
I still maintain that as long as you aren't a jerk or an idiot, you won't get banned. I mean, I may be proven wrong some day, but I've disagreed with all sorts of folks, run counter to popular opinion, mentioned my distaste for large corporations publishing annual sports updates, and more, but I always did so in a generally non-obnoxious way. The folks who get banned are generally those who:

1) Don't pay attention.
2) Do something really, REALLY stupid
3) Openly insult people/groups
4) Complain about mod decisions

Now, I know point 4 is a bit different from the rest, but...
 
I'm pretty sure the first time I was temporarily banned was for making fun of Waychel's forehead. I think.

Second time was me stupidly linking to a site that had nude Selma Hayek pictures.

Since then I've been a model GAF...iticen.
 
I truy feel for all of the people in this thread that were banned for frivolous or unjust reasons. You all are the victims of a totally unjust world.

This thread is for epic bans. No one gives a shit about you getting banned for acting like a total fucking retard. Stop acting like bitches.
 
I got banned by sp0rsk for saying that a girl's picture was air brushed. I thought he was a cool guy before that.

I was banned for posting something without reading a thread mine was totally deserved.

But aren't epic bans fairly few and far between? Most get banned over stuff like I did. Some are once in a lifetime bans. Definitely epic. Most are nothing to brag about. Including mine. The page and a half it took before I got it was funny in retrospective.

That was that poster pretending to be a girl and the detective gaffers found his yahoo profile. That poster was awesome, his fanfic was an erotic tale from Milan to Minsc.
 
A week & half ago I switched my Avatar to an animated RickAstley GIF to rick roll everyone on April Fool's day . . . but that GIF was more than 1.9 megs so I got banned for that. Joke's on me.

all these avatars serving as a "read the faq" incentive are really annoying. I changed my avatar once in like more than 2 years and it was considered NSFW...no cleavage/boobs/ass too

I was banned for ruining the spoiler-free Twilight Princess thread.

I don't think thats awesome..but someone that really hates fanboys of all sorts might.
 
Yeah, there should be more diversity in the NSFW avatars. There seem to be quite a few people with one. Since they're stuck with it forever you'd eventually get threads with one after the other person posting with the same (lame) avatar.

I just got off a totally unepic ban. i don't even knwo what i was banned for. just had a message saying "Thanks for that comment" or whatever.

seriously, mods/admin should put a link to the offending post when they're saying why we're banned... i'd be ten times less likely to repeat my offense if i actually knew what my offense was to begin with. Or, you know, instead of some smarmy quip, actually tell us what we did.


wellington does that, usually. i got the boot for beign sexist in the football thread before. no big... I understand that and have tried not to be sexist since. why? cuz I knew what i did wrong.
 
For some reason, I usually get banned like a month or so before Christmas for 1-3 months and miss out on all the fun christmas posting. I think Mr.Grinch is a neogaf admin :p :)

Anyways, I don't really have any awesome stories, just wanted to mention the above.

One of my favourite ones was when ****** was permabanned for making shit up about Killzone 2. Bish cought you red-handed there, son. :lol I dont know how many bans he had seen prior to that.
