Awesome gaming soundtracks that NO ONE'S heard of.

While the entire Soundtrack wasn't amazing by any means (more appropriate given the environment) a number of tracks were absolutely fantastic...

The best out of the bunch though?

Because they like it. Is that so hard to understand?

When it's one of the weaker and more repetitive tracks in the soundtrack? Yes it is.

But I recognize that that's personal opinion, so you don't have to reply again with a snarky comment!

Ace Combat 5

The music in this game was just spectacular. By itself, great, but when it was compounded with radio chatter and engine noise it just created an ambiance that is hands down the best in a flight sim.

White Bird(Part II)
Hrimfaxi
Wardog
Supercircus
Rendezvous

Ace Combat 0

Even though this game felt like a glorified expansion pack, the soundtrack damn near told the story for what would have been a below average title. Arguably the best AC soundtrack. It probably had the best final boss fight music of any game too...

The OP doesn't know it, but this topic was made for Final Fantasy Adventure / Seiken Densetsu. This Game Boy game, though named Final Fantasy Adventure in NA, was the first game in the Mana series, or Seiken Densetsu. It feature what is quite possibly the most ambitious, sweeping, epic soundtrack put to the Game Boy's tiny speaker. The entire game is a musical masterpiece that is sadly and grossly under-appreciated. The japanese ost came with absolutely stunning orchestrated tracks that shows the music's true potential beyond what our favorite bulky portable 8-bit system was capable of. Don't you dare leave this topic without listening to Decisive Battle!

You say this but don't link to the in-game version? :-\ Will have a listen later, I loved this game as a kid, don't remember the soundtrack at all though.

Yes I do. It's Final Battle. Don't ask me why the name change, I have no clue.

I almost agree. Final Fantasy Adventure absolutely has one of the best soundtracks on the Game Boy, but I'd put it second, to Link's Awakening, not first. The game's amazingly good, but not quite LA quality... though it's definitely in my top five Game Boy games overall, for sure. As for the music, the soundtrack is a spectacular, beautiful, sad soundtrack that fits the game perfectly. Amazing, amazing, work... somehow it perfectly fits the often tragic and sad tone of the game, and I mean the Game Boy versions as well as the orchestral ones. The main menu theme, for instance. I thought that that song was a sad one, somehow... the main three note theme's tone somehow seems that way to me. And though the central theme is just three notes, it's a beautiful piece. Though "Determination" in the soundtrack starts lighter, initially like the version of the main menu music in Sword of Mana (that I sort of disliked for the "happier seeming" tone... though it's fitting, given that they did the same thing to the plot in general), that later changes to a darker version of the theme, in "Determination" and through most of "Life" for instance. And that's probably why "Life" is probably my favorite of those seven songs... simply amazing. They're all really good, though.

Overall, both versions of Seiken Densetsu's soundtrack, both in the game and on the CD, are truly great. It really was a statement about how much the Game Boy could really do... it's too bad Square barely supported the system after the early '90s and stayed away all the way until the GBA was out.

Oh yeah, and that's a really, really cool cover image.

DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 3

It seems NO ONE knows how good the music is! No, I am NOT talking about the SNES one, but the GBA one. That's right, 2 totally different OSTs! As far as the majority of the songs go, I prefer the GBA picks.

SNES Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOEU4a1IXMY
GBA Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cevlCkU8wJU

In my book GBA wins hands down.

here is another comparison.
SNES: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YP0qBEZosM
GBA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFwDvkZnmA8

GBA wins yet again.

Anyone agree with me on this? Anyone dare disagree?

Ugh! This just reminds me of how godawful the SNES Stilt Village music was. And it's the song of the very first level too. You start a new game only to be greeted by some of the worst music in the series. I remember that the bad first impression was part of why DKC3 was the one in the SNES series that I did not buy. So yeah it doesn't take much to top that.

So the redid the whole soundtrack for the GBA? Never knew that. Neat trivia.

note: Do not play this game if you value your time and/or sanity.

NeoTokyo mod:

Originally this was a partially completed UT2K4 mod (the music in the gameplay clip is from the game), but it's been in process of being redone for the Source engine over the last few years. Supposedly it's going to be released fairly soon, and you can listen to samples of the expanded soundtrack on the site. I'm really looking forward to both the new mod and the full soundtrack release. The artist who composed the music, Ed Harrison (aka Logic) has a couple of tracks up on his myspace page as well - http://www.myspace.com/edweirdmusic

Wow... I always skipped over DKC3 because the style was just not there... but with this GBA soundtrack I know I would have given the game a chance.. Interesting how music affects your enjoyment of the game.

ctrl+f "Opoona": Not Found.

Let me start off by saying that I rarely listen to videogame soundtracks. Whether it's that I'm just plain sick of hearing the same thing I've been listening to for the last 45 hours, or that I don't particularly care to listen to something that's usually far too repetitious, VG music often escapes me. Opoona's sountrack, on the other hand, is different. While it has a central motif that is often repeated throughout the songs, it's carefully crafted "futuristic jazz" soundtrack stands out as just plain good music.

Even though I have no problem conceding to the core game's problems and outright mediocrity, Opoona remains a visually stunning game with an outstanding soundtrack produced by Basiscape (Hitoshi Sakimoto & co.). Since the title is drifting into obscurity, probably sold less than 20,000 copies, and doesn't have much of a following, it understandably has no official soundtrack release at this time. For this reason, I suggest you download the entirety of the fanripped soundtrack (here) and give it a listen. Of course, you'll probably want to hear a few songs first, which is why NeoGAF has a "hyperlink" button:

Fontene theme
Outside Artelia Dome
Concert Hall
Rosa

You can hear the majority of the soundtrack in that person's YouTube account, so give it a whirl. Download the .zips if you want to hear it the many outstanding tracks he skipped over, as there's over 80 songs (and alternate versions, sound effects, etc.) in total. Without a doubt, one of the few gaming soundtracks I would buy in a minute if I could.

Listen to this man people, Opoona has GREAT music.

Rosa

That one is superb, I love it.

Opoona's music is marvelous. I couldn't expect less from Hitoshi motherfuckin' Sakmoto.

So I found myself thinking thanks to the Genesis VS SNES thread "hey, this thread is kinda boring now it needs some awesome back" and then I figured out "oh, I know it! this thread needs more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time tunes!"

SNES version cause the other ones suck.

Turtle Power!
Turtle Select
Big Apple, 3 A.M.
Climactic Battle
Alleycat Blues
Sewer Surfin'
Technodrome - Let's Kick Shell!
Going Up
Prehistoric Turtlesaurus
Skull & Crossbones
Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee
Neon Night-Riders
Star Base - Where No Turtle Has Gone Before
Super Shredder

I miss 16-bit music. :(

Baten Kaitos Origins has such a great soundtrack. Such an under appreciated game.

Came in to post that. I know a lot of us know the soundtrack is AMAZING... but the general population needs to know it!

Loved the originals music already then the sequel just came along and blew everything away.
