Awesome PC games you don't even know about

There's a difference between a location in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and a much hated copy protection system there :P. (Starforce is the one you're referring to)
I tend to get my tools of ultimate evil mixed-up. :(

Sounds like you're talking about Die By The Sword
Speaking of which, did anyone play Severance: Blade of Darkness? I remember a buddy of mine recommending it from some demo back in the day but I never got around to trying it out. Worth tracking down?

Damn, sacrifice still looks awesome. I remember playing the demo on my tnt2. (Never bought it though, something about the controls bothered me.)

Hell yeah!! I found the game on a bargain bin a couple of years ago. SO AWESOME! I'll post some pics today.

I love the way you can chop off several of the enemies limbs even during the dying animation :lol

True, I also enjoyed a lot the demo, but never had the chance to get the retail game.

Thanks in part to this thread, I reinstalled Startopia last night. It's still so awesome and ran fine on Vista x64.

Somehow I got a Skrasher just a few minutes into the game. I only had two employees and it killed them both. I had to run around finding people to hire so they would kill it before it smashed everything. Finally I found a Kagsvogorian (I got that spelling from GameFAQs... is that right? I thought there was an R in there) who took out the Skrasher then died from his wounds.

Later a spy planted a bomb and I found it with plenty of time to spare, but I didn't have a Recycler. I had to keep it in my pattern buffer for about ten minutes, at which point I decided to see what would happen if I beamed it back down. Exploded on contact and killed one of my guests. Oops.

Also, the game's soundtrack is completely awesome.

Most under appreciated Megaman game.

I know it has been mentioned before, but I'm going to mention it again...FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

Septerra Core

Probably one of the best PC games that I've played and almost no one has heard of it.

I always thought it was kasvagorian or kasvogorian.

Two more options with bombs: Drop them out of the spacedock when it's open or just beam them to an EMPTY section of your station (open up a new section if needed)

Totally is.

SEPTERRA BORE is more like it lolz.

Here's a great game that probably only a few of your plebes have ever played:

Imperialism II

lisbon.jpg

Probably the best European empire/conquest simulation until Europa Universalis hit the scene, Imperialism II from Frog City is a true classic of empire building and conquest/domination fun. Games are ball-busting long and has a steep learning curve, it was a wonderful game that sucked tons of hours away in my later college days. Rachel Bernstien's involvement in the design of this game is a good 75% of the reason why I'm interested in her latest effort, EA's SimCity Societies.

http://dailyimperialist.strategyplanet.gamespy.com has the game downloadable for free. They also have the wonderful Trade Empires there as well.

I thought 2 was the best in the series. 1 had some annoying puzzles, especially the potion mixing thing.

Also, I hated how in Malcolm's Revenge
Malcolm turned out to be a good guy
. Ruined a lot of the mood for me.

So I just remembered another classic, the name eluded me until google came to my aid

Betrayal_at_Krondor6.jpg

I spent so many hours on this game, it's ridiculous.

Game rocks!

Quoted for truth. This is one of my favourite RPGs of all times. I replayed it earlier this year and it's still great. The game was truly ahead of its time, even most modern RPGs feels pale in comparison.

man, I loved this game so much.... I still have the fold out poster of the cover image hanging up at my place. Its really the only poster i still have up from when I was younger.

I liked the second one, but their art direction really went to shit with the 3rd game, when they opted for more of the 3d rendered backgrounds.

Its really a shame that Westwood Studios went the way they did... Around the time that Kyrandia came out, They were creating some of the best 2d pixelated art I have ever seen.... Its a shame EA turned them into a command and conquer factory before driving them into the ground...

Here's a game I dabbled in a bit, but really need to go back to give proper play time:

Crusader: No Regret

Here are a couple more games I loved back in the day but got pretty panned in reviews if I remember right:

I keep thinking of games I used to love and play to death. Here's another one of those games that you may have missed that could open your eyes to the world of SIEGE (as it did for me!). It's funny I think it had a sequel in recent years, but I totally ignored it; maybe I'll check it out one of these days.

Lords of the Realm 2

Holy shit they do! Is that legal? That's awesome!

Imperialism 2 (never played it as much as the sequel, though it's almost certainly a better game) is so awesome. Like Civ if the focus was on economy and trading instead of expansion and battle. Everything Frog City did was awesome, actually. I guess they no longer exist after Tropico 2, though. Shame.

P.S. Tropico 2 is another one you should all play. You control a Caribbean island full of pirates and have to send out pirate ships to collect slaves to work the island for you. So awesome.

What was the name of that european made adventure game with cell shaded graphics that came out recently and was supposed to be really good?
Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle?
Pick up Runaway: A Road Adventure from a budget bin to see if you'll like it.

Tropico 1 was also awesome, you got to be El Presidente of your own banana republic :D. So awesome fighting with guerillas and such. Best part of the game though, one of the pre-set leaders you could choose from, aside from Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Manuel Noriega etc. was Lou Bega (yes, the dude who at the time had a huge hit with Mambo No. 5) :lol

I loved Tropico, but I figured more people had probably played it. I think it was a big deal at the time, while the sequel was not so much. But yeah, Tropico was great. To find a corpse lying in the dirt of a tobacco field and click on it to find out what she thought before dying and identify her widower husband and orphaned kids, that was awesome. Or cracking down on your lazy peasants and then quelling the armed rebellion that follows.

Also, another kickass soundtrack.

My donation to this great thread, Rune an action-adventure game by Human Head Studios in 2000. In the single-player you played as Ragnar, a viking who narrowly escapes death at sea and is tasked by Odin to stop Loki from being freed lest that Ragnarok will come. There was decent multiplayer following with a heavy slant on 1v1 arena fighting.
Oh, and you can decapitate foes. And lop off their arms. And beat enemies with said amuptations.

oh hell yes! Rune was awesome.

I'm going to go OLD school here...

Command HQ

A real classic by the late designer legend Dani (formerly Dan) Bunten! The games's basic concept is quite simple: You start with a city (or in the scenarios with many) and have to conquer the earth (other preset or random maps do not exist). There is always exactly one enemy.

Microprose's "Red Storm Rising," based on the book written by Tom Clancy.

Sid Meier's Covert Action

g01130539a5.jpg

You are Max (or Maxine) Remington, agent at the CIA. Your boss calls you to his office to give you a mission. He introduces you to the basic problem and the available information. Then you're on your own! Well, not really. There are CIA-analysts who support you. They collect all the data and filter out the important stuff.

True combat: elite

It is a tactical fps mod for Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory.
Forget about counter strike. This game blows it away in terms of balance and gameplay. You can lean, prone, cook grenades, and use ironsights to aim. Since the game relies on ironsights, there are no crosshairs to make the game cheap. Stealth is more crucial aswell. Its not the type of game where you're going to run like a noob and shoot quickly like in counter strike. There are also more variety of modes such as capture the flag, bodycount (team death match), and objective (last man standing).

The weapons:

The pistols can be as deadly as the automatics in the right hands.

The sniper rifles are a bit trickier to use and require more skill compared to counterstrike.

Indicates your current posture: standing, crouching, or prone.

Shows the damage you have sustained, also indicates what body part was effected. The colors run white for excellent health through yellow orange and red, respectively.
