Awesome regional differences in games

More Super Smash Bros. Melee: In the North American version of Melee, the Motion Sensor Bomb looks like this:

The trophy text for the North American version says it's "a favorite covert weapon of spies and other stealthy operatives" and the Japanese version says it "has long been a favorite covert weapon of the Carrington Institute." (The Carrington Institute being the protagonists of Perfect Dark, of course.)
If they really changed it to remove the Rare association, it's ironic that they changed it to look like the Proximity Mine from Goldeneye.

Maybe it was changed because Goldeneye was more well-known. That would seem to be the case, as not only is it an exact replica, they also mention "spies and other stealthy operatives" in the description.

The Proximity KO award in the Japanese verison of the original Super Smash Bros was called OO Agent (and the official site lists the mine as being from Goldeneye). The only other difference I can think of is the item switch menu is harder to unlock in the Japanese version of that game than other versions.

Revenge of Shinobi on the Megadrive (Genesis)

I had a switch in the machine which would toggle between EU an JAP versions of the console (bypassed a resistor if i remember).

In one of tha later levels on the JAP version you came up against Spiderman and Batman?.. on the EU, i think it was just a normal goon. My memory is pretty shot so maybe someone here remembers better.

There was definately spiderman, i remember there is a cracked article or something else detailing these funny changes. There might have been batman as well, but i definately remember a funny rip off of spiderman in their video

Here's a huge semi-modern day one Hot Shots Golf
Replaced all the anime inspired golfers from 'Everybody's Golf" with more imo better american cartoony characters...to busy to look for comparisons but just look at screen shots for Hot Shots 2-4 with Everybody's Golf 2-4 and its obvious

Something from the video game facts thread:

This reminded me of Zelda LTTP.
They improved the title screen and file select screen for the English release.

I picked up a copy of the Japanese version once while in China Town here in Seattle and found this out for myself.

Not mind-blowing but a neat little fact.

The Japanese title and file screens were so bad. :P "KILL!"

While pal version of Silent Hill 1 had the child demons cencored it added a newspaper article hinting that Dahlias house setting on fire was caused by boiler blowing up. You still can find the newspaper that has the article cut off in other versions.

I'm not sure why they changed this one. Rare didn't go to Microsoft until a year later, and the North American version was only released less than two weeks after the Japanese version.

In fact, I'm pretty sure they didn't actually remove the Proximity Mine. I think you can actually change this trophy from the generic Motion Sensor Bomb to the Perfect Dark Proximity Mine by changing the game's language to Japanese. I vaguely remember doing that but I don't have my copy of Melee handy to test it out now. :P

The EU version uses the Japanese text (with the words "Carrington Institute" still there), but the game description reads "TOP SECRET", with no date listed.
