I first saw this movie expecting it to be awful but I ended up loving it. Ever since then it's become one of my favorite comedies that I can keep going back to for a laugh.

Came here to post this, awesome movie, Matt Damon singing!!!

How I wish Kilmer had done more comedy. This has some of my favorite comic dialog.
Yep . . . this and Top Secret were both great.

He should do comedy again . . . he could use his fatness as an advantage.

and the lack of Weird Science here is appalling
It got mentioned on the first page. (Whoops, no it didn't . . . or maybe edited out?) But honestly, it is probably John Hughes' worst teen movie . . . the guy did greats like Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, and . . .

Clueless, maybe?

Haven't seen it since the 90s, so I don't know if it's as funny as I remember.

He was but that doesn't excuse Karen from being a bitch. Motherfuck Karen.

He treated her ass like a fucking princess and she burned him. Yeah, it's messed up, but that's what you get when you put the pussy on a pedestal...

Need to see more teen movies where they portray it like real life... none of this sappy happy hollywood endings.

The geek does NOT get the hot girl, love of his life blah blah blah.

Aventureland. Understated and really good.

All the Real Girls isn't quite a teen film, but it's amazing.

Not a film at all, but my fave teen show ever was Freaks and Geeks.

Kids?

Holy shit that movie was incredibly depressing and painful to watch. Interesting to watch at least once though...the director pulled off a modern day Italian Neo-Realism film in New York...but goddamn did I find it depressing.

My vote...Heathers x 1000

Only good because of Michelle Trachtenberg's amazing body.

Just came in to mention that molly ringwald is the cutest girl ever.

This and American Pie like, changed me when I was 13/14. As far as Parodies go, I still think Not Another Teen Movie is my favorite.

Side Note: "The Last American Virgin" made me want to kill myself. What a fucking downer.

I love Grind, people hate on it but I thought it was great and the commentary track on the dvd was hilarious.

Sorry but teen movies post mid 90's were all shit. All of them.

Apart from the excellent Ferris Bueller you also need;

Heathers

A girl who half-heartedly tries to be part of the "in crowd" of her school meets a rebel who teaches her a more devious way to play social politics

Favourite quote of the movie;

"Fuck me gently with a chainsaw......"
Was largely considered 'too dark' for many audiences at it's release.

and a young John Cusack in Better off Dead

A teenager has to deal with his girlfriend dumping him among family crises, homicidal paper boys, and a rival skier.

Dude can't deal with g/f dumping him for the highschool jock and considers suicide. Dysfunctional family and friends don't help.

And on Can't Hardly Wait -- I was on the bandwagon day one. I can recall back in 1998 being pumped about the movie coming out. It had Jennifer Love Hewitt (from I Know... and Party of 5!) Seth Green (from Austin Powers!), Jerry O'Connell (from Sliders and Joe's Apartment!) and Melissa Joan Hart (from Sabrina!).
I tried for hours streaming the trailer, which was something like 5 megs and kept on getting disconnected by the phone ringing. To this day I can still recall the watermelon bit from that trailer not being in the final cut. So vividly can I remember it that when someone on here said that Jason Segel was in the movie I instantly went, 'Oh yeah Watermelon guy'. Great teen movie.

again, cause its the ultimate

Don't Tell Mum The Babysitters Dead

also, those posting stuff like Kids, Bully, Elephant and Battle Royale might be missing the point of what that OP is looking for. i mean they're all really good, but if someone told me they liked John Hughes i wouldn't then recommend them a Harmonie Korine film.
