Hi All,

I’m Gordon Van Dyke and I’m the Associate Producer for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 here at EA’s DICE studio in Stockholm.

Today we’re excited to announce that our forthcoming multiplayer beta is coming exclusively to PS3, so you’ll have a chance to experience all the action, destruction and vehicular warfare ahead of our full release in March 2010.

Battlefield Bad Company 2

Getting access to the beta will differ from country to country, but here are a few specific ways of getting hold of a key:

* We’ll be holding a special limited giveaway right here on the PlayStation Blog (details TBA)
* Pre-ordering the game at participating retailer
* Checking out selected gaming sites such as IGN or GameSpot in North America.

Old???

PC Open Beta is in December and a mutliplayer demo for all platforms is coming out early next year in case anyone without a PS3 is wondering.

You might want to add those notes to the OP before this turns into a fanboy bitchfest. :lol

Now we're talking! Bring it on!

Same bullshit Activision pulled with CoD4... I guess they are not analyzing technical aspects since one platform is left out.

Really, EA? Really?

Auctioning off a beta as an exclusive? That's pretty low.

Boo hoo. Because we haven't seen betas exclusive to a platform before

Does EA have a really good relationship with Sony?

I feel like they shower the system with love, Mirror's Edge exclusive, Burnout Paradise loving, etc.

FAP FAP FAP.

DO want. Hopefully they make the keys available to those that are interested (hint: Everyone) instead of the typical Sony "DURR PREORDER TO ONLY GUARANTEE THIS PRE-ORDER BONUS" shit. :|

Also free DLCs for Brutal Legend most recently.

We all know EA were never exactly happy with the 'walled garden' of Xbox live, maybe this is their roundabout way of making the PS3 a more attractive console to own, and therefore more incentive for Microsoft to drop its
bullshit community dividing and segregating
pay to play model for Live?

I think they spread the love around. They try to be even handed in their exclusives, some to one side, some to another. They realize they cant alienate anybody too much. In this case BC1 beta was 360 only, BC2 beta is PS3 only.

And Burnout devs said they just like the platform better so it wasn't an EA thing, but a developer thing, much like Valve does not like the PS3, so they won't do games for it.

Also, MS wotn allow free stuff (think the large class updates for TF), so EA may be giving free stuff where its allowed, which in this case appears to create favoritism, when in reality its the platform's benefits/drawbacks not EA consciously decidign one way or the other.

There's love on both sides. Mass Effect is still 360 exclusive. L4D is 360 exclusive. Rockband has always been demoed on 360 hardware, etc.

The subtle platform perks have more to do with specific development teams than EA as a publisher. DICE is a particularly strange new friend to Sony, though. They have such a long PC tradition, I'd expect them to be more dedicated to 360.

I thought exclusive mean, ya know, exclusive?
Those in North America can gain access to the PlayStation 3 beta by pre-ordering the game from GameStop, with those in Europe and Asia told to be on the lookout for "local opportunities." The December-due PC beta, meanwhile, will be open to all.

But that's not all, as a downloadable multiplayer demo will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 "early next year," presumably before the shooter's retail release on March 2.

This is going to be fantastic. I could use a break from BF1943. I hate giving Gamestop my money, but it looks like I don't hate them enough to pass on this.

For an "open" beta, there are still a bunch of hoops to jump through. Pre-orders, checking gamestop everyday.

Wish I could just check the PS store and download when the beta opens.

Same here. But I'd love to try that beta...

No it's not that, I was under the impression that previous betas were only on 360 due to Microsoft having a universal certification process, whereas Sony has seperate processes for each region. It would just be more of a fuss for a non-commercial product that tests netcode which is the same across both platforms anyway, so why bother?

I didn't think that platform holders would actually pay money/strike a deal for the exclusivity of a beta. Just seems silly.

Still a nice bonus for PS3 owners though.

Why on earth would you not think so? If they're willing to strike deals for exclusivity of whole games, of DLC, of advertising, or of special editions, why not for betas?

Also, your argument in general is very shaky. You think that no 360-exclusive beta has been that way due to a deal, and that this PS3-exclusive beta is. I have no idea if you're right or not, but it seems that neither of those conclusions is based on much actual evidence.

NO 360 VERSION?!

DICE just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Xbox culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is on other consoles where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over on Xbox, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that the 360 fans, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Bad Company 2, nor will they purchase any of DICE's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but DICE has alienated an entire market with this move.

DICE, publicly apologize and cancel the Bad Company 2 beta for PS3 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

you should become an analyst bro

Jeez, who cares. I'm buying the 360 version, but I'll put in a PS3 preorder to get the key and switch it over closer to release.

What a bizarre moneyhat.

Free Brutal Legend DLC...
Exlusive mention in AC2's commercial campaign...
And now Exclusive BF:BC2 Beta...

Wow Sony, what a MONTH

I'm pumped to try this out. Looks like it improved a ton over BF1. I have a feeling this beta might cause me not to double dip MW2.

It's like the no dedicated servers PC MW2, only it's 360 no beta BC2!

I thought I heard this game completed a couple of months ago and they were just waiting for post MW2?

I'd check it out but I'm sure I'll be still locked into MW2.

Noiceeeeee, PS3 gets first beta exclusive?

Will be F5in'

Watch it have dedicated servers, that'd be the ultimate awesome
