they do like 10%, which is enough damage to kill a tank after it's just been hit by 2 rockets. other than that, not really useful against tanks.

But all damage is multiplied when you hit the tank from the rear/side and back.

I like everything about this game except for the ultra retarded killcam... and spotting. I think I'd rather have it go back to the old way of actually having to hit somebody to be spotted, than this hold select scan the horizon cheesefest. It's a crutch for bad players to get points w/o actually doing anything, or having to help with objectives.

well, yeah if you have it's back, shoot it, just saying head on, its not really a good idea unless you're delivering the deathstroke.

Just played this game, from the UK and using the US Beta and I had no lag problems what so ever, which made me think is this game using dedicated servers and is it region locked for multi-player?
it uses dedicated servers yes, but it's not region locked. you can still play with friends around the world if they invite you or you join their game. if you use play now, it'll try and find a available game with a low ping.

The sniping feels good man. Except when i pumped 4 shots into a dude and he didn't die.
I have though, nothing compares to a head shot from the other side of the map.
either aim for the head or use a real man rifle instead of a semiauto.

An awesome Gaffer pm'd me a code like friday... Dl'd the game on saturday... and was really torn between playing this and Demon Souls..

But this game is REALLY good... the Sound oh GOD the sound... The MICs!! OH GAWD... i've never heard mics sound this good on a console.... It seemed like everyone was in the room with me pretty much....

couple things... Why can't i go prone :(

The last Battlefield game that I really REALLY was into was BF2... which was a brilliant brilliant brilliant game... And like the number 1 strategy in that game was.... See an enemy Fly to the floor prone and start shooting.. It really feels a little strange not being able to go prone :(

Also... the game just feels good...

From my little bit of play time this weekend I just had a few suggestions...
WTF is up with the sprint on L3? I hate HOLD to sprint... Toggle Sprint in KZ2 is just awesome and simple but i feel like i'm breaking my 6a6 every time i do it... Please... Toggle sprint thank you..

Also... i dont have a big problem with the select button.. .but I agree it should be on the D pad... Just makes more sense.. which opens up select to be used to show the player list.
They should use that button the same way how its used in BF2 where if you hold it down it opens up a menu of options.. Soo request ammo, request health, request support etc etc...

How long is this beta for? I've been addicted to MW2 but the 2 games I played of this were really fun. Wouldn't want to miss this if it's only going for a couple of weeks or something like that.

Agree on sprint.

As to select, I think they said they want it to not be too easy so they put it on select so its a harder movement to make.

Now using the d-pad for the requests pop up menu makes more sense than spotting on the d-pad to me.

And I love that you can make tons of points without killing in this game. Supporting by spotting, healing, ammoing is a significant points generator.

I used to think BF games got chaotic, but compared to MW2 this is much more structured and less random even with all the vehicles.

The tearing is evident in spots but visually it's pretty darn nice.

I find it pretty ideal. What's missing is the ability to strafe while running fast. The same way Modern Warfare 2 does it. (So some of the corners can be more easily taken. But I understand if they won't include it due to balancing.)

Also I just booted up Killzone 2 and it works exactly like MW2 which means you move your stick forward, press it inwards once and when you want to stop running you let go off the left analog stick.

BF:BC2 works the same way except for the part with the strafing I mentioned earlier.

yeah, the voice quality is pretty awesome!

1) it's click to sprint, not hold to sprint

2) if you hold select for a second, you do indeed see that player list

Yeah L3 sprint is toggle in BC 2 don't know what you guys are talking about, works great IMO.

Anyway i'm really loving this game, when you get into a balanced match with at least a couple of guys playing it right it is unmatched IMO. It's awesome driving your tank down the road and owning the other team again and again until they throw two tanks at you and kick the crap out of you. I tried the Recon class last night(play mostly medic just like in BC 1) and it was a nice change of pace, gotta try the other 2 classes today.

Anyway March is too far away :(

Never knew that if only more people knows about that I wouldn't have problems.

It's also the other way around. One time I was running after an assault guy pressing select and yelling PATRONE, again and again. It became quite comical because I must have looked like some Russian hobo harassing some poor bastard.:lol

I love the toggle sprint, it's much better than how it was in BC1.

As far as spotting, I was thinking it could be cool if they mapped it to R3, that way you could spot as you aim without having to take your hands off of the analog sticks. Either way I'm glad that most of the gripes that people have are only with control mapping.

When you snipe and spam select you quite often yell out for medics and ammo to guys on the other side of the battlefield. Feels a bit weird, and i hope they fix it. I wonder if anyone actually hears my yelling.

Use the Recon spotting specialization...

The Spotting system needs a bit of balancing. The red Dots above enemies heads needs to go, and spotting should only result in red dots in the minimap for the duration that the enemy is visible to the original spotter. IF the spotters view of the spotted enemy is blocked by a building, smoke, or a piece of cover the red dot should disappear and he would then need to be re spotted. There should also be a small red light next to everyone's minimap to let the player know that he has been spotted that way if he wishes to remain undetected he has to go hide or look around to try to identify the enemy spotter.

I wouldnt exactly call that balancing, more like 'rendering it completely useless' :P

LOL really ? We'll I might just be totally against the red dots being above players heads, we all remember how much that broke BC1's gameplay.

Bc1 also had an automatic spotting system where shooting an enemy once would light him up like a Christmas tree for your entire team.

It would have been fine if they only showed up in the minimap, but with the orange dots above their heads everyone regardless if they saw him or not would shoot at the orange dot and obtain a kill.

I'm just afraid it will kill bc2s gameplay again.

Indeed. That "command rose" was a radial menu before there was such a thing. I don't see why it wouldn't make perfect sense in a console Battlefield.

But it is very easy. You don't actually need to see enemies to spot them, you can just spam the select button and orange triangles appear, then you shoot at the triangles. Or rake in the spotting points. It's just cheap.

Been so damn long since I played BF2, but when you spotted enemies in it I believe they just appeared on your minimap. That's the way it should be.

Uploaded some HD videos to YouTube and put them together in a handy blog post of mine here http://www.gametown.it/blog/2009/11/video-hd-di-battlefield-bad-company-2-beta/ (not spamming my blog here cos there is nothing there to be seen there :lol. I'm just experimenting with this internet stuff. I think it's just easier to show all my videos together this way. Please let me know if this is against TOS and I'll direct link each video individually).

Assault and Recon vids are still being uploaded/processed. Will update when ready.

have a fun etc

What if they made spotting a Recon only thing?

That's something I wouldn't mind, well, aside from having a whole team of snipers.

I think the best way to balance it is to confine the indicators to the minimap. At least make people work for it a bit, and require some battlefield awareness.

And they have to address people being spotted that aren't even visible... hidden behind walls/objects and still getting spotted is horseshit.

+1

Yea the spotting system is too generous, at the very least make people hold select on a target for a few seconds.

How can you spot people behind walls? I'm pretty sure it aint possible.

Aside from the hard to reach Select, I love the spotting system as it is. I hope they don't change a thing.

I didnt know you could just spam it. I thought they had to be in your crosshairs for the spotting to work. I had been trying so hard... :lol Thats the only way it would make sense and I hope they fix it to be that way.

As to the dots, they can keep dots on the player as long as he is being watched by someone (making sniper spotters ability useful). And on the minimap for 15-30 seconds once select is used regardless of being watched.

On a related note, if you're sitting behind cover which you can see through (such as railings) you can't spot anything at all. Don't know if this goes for chainlink fences too.

Also it's kind of annoying that you can't spot people when using the TOW.

Another thing that bugs me is how medic kits work. You can just lay one down on the ground and people getting shot near the medic kit will just continuously heal, its not a 1 time thing like in BC1.

I've only been able to spot people within my line of sight (when it works).

At least the indicators disappear when they're out of your view after a few seconds.

They need to make a cooldown of some sort. Can only be healed or reammoed from a box once every 5 seconds not continuously. I have not run into issues with it, but it seems to make more sense than continuous healing near an ammo box.

I think they heal slow enough for a good rifle burst to kill them no matter what. At least I never survived an attack while being close to a med kit. Actually, I don't really understand the point of having these kits anyway. Whenever I'm low, I just cover and wait. Don't really feel the need for it to be faster.

As much as I love racking up points with spotting, it does feel a little cheap. A few times as a tank gunner I'd spam select at the enemy camp from a good distance away and light them up like a christmas tree, and proceed to take em out before they even knew what hit them.

Also, no I don't think recon should get anymore more power than they already have. Snipers are never satisfied :p They can see you from across the map while hiding in a bush, that's enough advantage as it is.

That's why I like the killcam, lack of prone, and one can even make an argument that it's good that snipers have C4. In order to use it you have to get close up to the action, so it encourages snipers to do that instead of staying in one spot the whole time. All these things prevent camping, which everyone hates.

I think our difference in opinion comes from the fact that i mainly play recon=)
you'd be a lot more safe as a sniper if you knew you'd been tagged and then all you had to do was duck for a second.

It's not like the tags last very long as it is either, i dont think they last more than 10 seconds or so.

Two issues...

One: Scan the horizon and spam select and you will light up enemies that weren't clearly visible. Some you might not have even seen. Sometimes they're behind low hills or rocks/objects. I did it, so I know it's possible.

Two: Spotting data revealing an enemy position that is impossible to see otherwise. In your own vid you posted (I think the engineer one)... you were in a tank firing the cannon at red triangles moving behind the walls of a building. I watched triangles move from one floor to another and you were able to follow them with the tank turret. That's bullshit.

Spotting should not work if line of sight is broken/obstructed.

Just my opinion... but right now I think spotting is the number one issue with the beta. Worse even than the killcam and lack of control customization.

1. Spotting
2. Customization
3. Killcam

That's the only real issues I have with the beta. I think spotting is cool, but needs to be addressed by the team and hopefully reworked/tweaked.

So wait, are the locations of the objectives/caches different each round or what?

Edit: Oh, nm, just watched further into the vid, it is a progression.
