your actual region/ping determines what servers you play on if you use "play now", it doesn't matter where you got the beta from.
OK cool. I was worried when I thought back to release day when the EU clients could connect but not the US ones. Not sure how that was possible.

because you have to connect to that region's matchmaking/authorization servers before it connects you to a game server. i've played with friends who use the EU beta and i have the US beta.

Oh god why am I freaking being destroyed in games. My last game my kill ratio was like 1:4. I never played BC but I was pretty decent at BF2. For some reason I just find it hard to see the opposing team while they can see me really easily.

just keep playing and try to notice how the opposing team tries to approach the crates or sets up their defense and try to outflank them and stay in blind spots where when they approach you, you'll see their side instead of their face. also, don't worry so much about your K/D ratio, just try to win.

Tanks may help.

Thanks for the tips. Last game I got 21/20 so I'm getting better. Also is it just me or is attacking easier than defending? My team always seems to lose on defense.

Rank-ups are killing this game for me! I just entered a game where eight of my teamates were sitting in back of the spawn throwing motion sensors and ammo crates.

I wish there was some way to stop this. It seems like every other game I join I get thrown into a squad that is boosting.

I just want to play the game as it is and earn the weapons, even if it is a beta.

My first game I got killed by a certain MarkMcDonald, unless someone else has that PSN name I'm pretty sure it's global.
I played a couple of rounds with G4TVReview, they were at the top of the scoreboard two out of the three times I played.

that's one of the problems with unlocks. people will play to get the unlocks instead of playing to win, and some will even use every dirty trick in the book. and the longer the unlocks take, the more time some people spend not trying to win.

Ok....So why are people now destroying their own crates? Have they found an exploit or are they just a-holes?
I'll admit I've destroyed my own teams crates before, usually if a map is going way too fast and I want more points. I play with a group of folks that have gotten especially good at defending the very first set of crates, I think at least 10 times now we have kept the attacker from taking the first set. But the downside is the attackers don't advance you only get maybe 1500 to 2k points and I want my points. So I'll blow the crate to push us back and give the whole team more opportunity to get points. We always end up winning anyways.

Quite a few times though I think its an accident, I see defenders using a tactic of C4ing near or on the crate so if they are up sniping and see that a crate has been armed they will blow the C4 killing the enemies around it. However that also damages the crate and sometimes enough to kill it.

As much as I love tanks, I do hope there's atleast one or two maps that don't have heavy vehicles on them. Last night I played a game where it was a full on gun battle for about 10 minutes straight at the 3rd base over crate B, for whatever reason nobody on our team got the tank which resulted in a incredible shootout. Both teams were evenly matched and were revving people left and right, bullets flying everywhere and mortar strikes etc. We were held up near the train car @ A, some of our shooters were in the hills, they were all over the place but coordinated and fending us off. It was great because we weren't really dying, but weren't making progress either, so our tickets didn't drop but we couldn't kill them fast enough to make a push to the crate.

@The Faceless Master

Would you please describe the optical sight upgrade for tanks?

When it comes to mines I think the wheels/treads actually have to go over them to trigger them, so a tank can drive right over them as long as their treads don't touch.

Does anyone know if there will be any night maps in BC2?

Hummers seem quite susceptible to them though. I can't recall a hummer living to tell the story. Only tanks.

I'm starting to see the appeal as time goes on, these unlocks take forever, and some are quite significant. I can understand why someone would just wanna go goof off for a little bit, get his points, and then be able to play with all the cool toys. Ideally people could do this on an empty server, but they're stuck going into populated matches with the matchmaking. In the end, other players are not responsible for making the game fun for you. If that's how they wanna play it, they can go nuts. Quitting out and rejoining another match to get away from them should only take a minute.

Yah I have started to see the "boosting" more and more lately, but it doesn't bother me too much. If its the opposing team it just means more points for me as I tend to make it my mission to hunt them down and kill them over and over. On my own team, as long as I'm playing with some friends we can usually pick up their slack. Plus what most don't realize is if you boost while actually playing correctly you can get even more points :) I was feeling a little frisky once so I had a stockpile going at the 4th A (overturned train car) and we held that spot for a while until they overran us with knifing, and C4ing peeps. It was so fun and I was getting 2k+ combo points. I'm a bastard :(

As opposed to earning them through actual gameplay rather than manipulating a matchmaking/point system? The appeal of cheating is rather universal and isn't exactly a complicated phenomenon.

Of course they are not responsible for making it fun for him, but in this instance their behavior is directly responsible for ruining his experience. These are not mutually exclusive concepts.

That's a rather flippant non-solution to the problem of rank/unlock boosters in any given game if I've ever seen one, ignore them or join another game, pffft. Anyone caught boosting ranks/stats should not only be temp banned, but have their current rank/stats wiped clean on next login, no matter what kind of game it is.

If people on your team are spotting players, it shouldn't be a problem. ;) Plus, I don't play this game as balls-out, aggressively as something like MW2.

I try to stick to/hug walls and stay low as I'm trying to make my way to the objective. And any time I can, as soon as I see anyone from the opposing team I hit select and mark 'em for the rest of the team.

In a game like this, worrying about K/D ratio goes out the door for me. Easy for me to say, since my K/D ratio is like 9/14 :lol But in this game, it's about getting the objective done. I also recently unlocked the F2000 and I'm loving that assault rifle.

Off topic, but does anyone know when Dice will start talking about the single player in this game? Weren't people embargoed till sometime this month?

Well you know I wouldn't call it cheating, but I'll agree that it's manipulating. It's a bad unlock system, and we can't change it. So if the guy wants to goof off for a bit and get all his unlocks, well it just seems mostly harmless.

Certainly not, but with that line of thought I could argue people who suck ruin my experience. It's their game, as long as what they're doing is within the obvious confines of the game, it's their business.
I leave games with crappy teams too. Game is just more fun when it's competitive.

Flippant non-solution? I dunno man it works really well. I could live with them banning/reseting people, perhaps a tad drastic but whatever. Anyway, but the thing is is that we can't make em do that. So I suggest getting into another game. It's easy, it works, and it's quick.

I really don't believe in judgeing someone how they play the game. Their business, their money. The rules are clear, and generally patched when loopholes are found. Leave it to the devs to decide whats right or not.

All I've seen so far:
Heart of Darkness
According to the preview, the story begins in Alaska, where Haggard, Sweetwater, Sergeant Redford and you (the player) are on a patrol. During that patrol, the B Company discovers a secret research project of the Russian Army and the trouble begins. The intelligence report does not contain further details about the project but it's a new and powerful weapon and the B Company goes on a chase for it. GameStar chief editor Michael Trier had the chance two play two missions of this chase: The already known scenario "Snow blind" (Alaska) from the first previews and trailers, and a second one called "Heart of Darkness" which leads the players to Bolivia!

Rumble in the jungle
"Heart of Darkness" is the third scenario beside "Atacama Desert" and "Arika Harbour" that takes place at the South American continent, but this time, players can expect beautiful landscapes instead of bare deserts.

Am I the only one who longs for a little bit more saturation? I know we're not going to get it, but it'd be nice. 1943 was so nice looking, and had a nice blue sky...

Also, is there any word on conquest specific maps? I remember in BC1 conquest seemed tacked on because these crate maps do not lend themselves well to conquest mode (everyone is too spread out). I still prefer a good conquest match to the crates.

which brings me to my last question: what are the chances of wake island appearing?

I think the saturation may come from other maps. From what I have been hearing the maps do vary quite a bit, from desert to snow to forest / jungle kind of settings. Those other settings may have a different color pallet to help with that.

On Wake Island, I would have to say no, at least not in its original form since Bad Company 2 won't have jets / planes, only helicopters.

It's so hard to headshot from far away. Any tips? I was about to give up thinking the hit registration in the game was a joke but a tip popped up on screen saying to aim higher when trying to headshot from a distance. If I hadn't seen this message, I would have rage quit this beta. :lol

Which gun? Sniper? M24? Depending on how far you are, there is some drop. At extreme ranges you can spot the guy with select and then aim for the red arrow (cheap, I know).

Yeah, the M24. Wait, what does select do? You mean if I spot a guy from really, really far I can press select and it'll light the enemy target with an arrow? That seems really cheap haha! What if it's close range?

I've seen some pics of the jungle setting and it looks incredibly saturated, the green is so dark and deep that it's almost oppressive. Have no fears on that front.

Nice, that stuff sounds pretty awesome. I assume the player you play as is still Preston Marlow. Would feel kinda weird just chopping him from B company.

Unless
Preston made off with the gold stash from the end of Bad Company 1 and stiffed Haggard, Sweetwater, and Redford?
Yeah it's confirmed that you play as Marlow again, and Redford is definitely back as well (he was in one of the jungle pics I saw). Also the first ever BFBC2 screenshot showed Sweetwater, Haggard and Redford so it's pretty much a given that the whole squad is coming back.

Does anyone else fucking hate getting stuck in or on the environment? I hope they fix this by release, I've lost many objectives for this,

I get stuck on the rocks ALL the time. While I'm jumping up and down trying to get myself unstuck, snipers usually pin me down and turn me into red stew delight.

Once you learn to spot you can't unlearn it. Soon you'll be like me and your thumb will immediately go to select when you see enemies. Works everywhere at any time. Depending on your scope the radius is bigger.

The train car holding alpha at the 4th objectives is like a black hole, sometimes even when you've managed to free yourself of it you get sucked back in... earlier posts here say it's been fixed in the current build of the game that DICE have.

There are some rocks which I've occasionally gotten stuck on (usually on steep slopes), and I got stuck in a tree once (:lol) coming down the hill towards the thrid set of objectives.

I haz M16! (M16A2)

Three burst, less recoil than the AN-94 and more rapid fire. It burs through ammo and is bout 5/7ths of the killing power of the AN-94. Overall it is great for ranged combat (headshot monster) but for all purpose use I prefer the M416.

Knife (R2) an enemy.
Note that the range of the knife attack is really short too (you have to be almost touching them with your player model) it's quite an adjustment coming from MW2. It works best from the side or back when they haven't seen you or can't react in time. If they have a gun pointed at you it's all over.

And curse you faceless for taking my dog tags last night (my time)! :D

You can actually see the bullet in flight, which is why the sniper doesn't automatically zoom out for the rechamber animation after you fire (on bolt actions obviously). So yeah on long shots, watch the bullet after you fire and adjust accordingly.

Sweet, never noticed that. I would always zoom out after shooting in order to reload faster. I'll try to spot my shot and adjust next time. Thanks.

Yeah that one crate on the second last area is a bitch to get inside or out of. I think they already fixed that for the retail release though.

The thing I can't stand right now is people being able to C4 the damn crates.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a group of more than 4 friends into a game together? Or how one would go about doing it?

The create squad section only seems to have enough room for 4 names.. what if I have 8 guys who want to get into a game together? I understand that they'd have to be on separate squads, that's no problem. Any ideas?

i guess you could always join as a squad, then get someone to leave the squad, make a new squad and invite people to it.

Brilliant!

I'm assuming there's no limit to the number of squads on a team other than 6 right? I mean you could theoretically have 6 squads of two guys each right?

I listened to an interview with one of the DICE guys awhile back and he said there was a lot of "squad" stuff still to be revealed. I'm really waiting to hear more about it.

Got the impression it was a focus point for them (hopefully not just the pc version) but I can't recall details... other than they were intentionally holding back that information for now.
