We already went over the public server stuff a few pages ago. There's nothing to fuss about there.

I don't recall using a console in BF2 for...anything. I'm all for shitting on devs who just ship out their crappy inferior console FPS on PC and call it a day but neither of those issues are big deals.

No mod tools is a bigger issue, but at the same time, I don't really play battlefield games for potential mods. I also don't think *every* PC game HAS to release mod tools or it's console junk, though it's preferred.

The battlefield series always had a massive modding community (way bigger than cod's atleast), so I think it's a pretty big deal. Modding is one of the things that made battlefield popular in the first place, which makes it kind of a stab in the back of all long time battlefield fans, especially because dice was one of the devs bitching at IW for doing pretty much the same thing.

And not having server tools available completly fucks up the chance to ever have any sort of modding going on.

This.

Desert Comabt for BF1942 had more players than Vanilla BF1942. It was the Battlefield equivalent of Counter-Strike, with people purchasing Battlefield just to play the mod.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't it the Desert Combat Mod team that got picked up by Dice or whomever to help make BF2? Seems to me they're closing the door on others doing what they did. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Some of them were I think. A lot of them also ended up at THQ at Kaos Studios.

With all that is coming out this year, the only game I am 100% certain I am buying is BC2 (on PS3 and PC). Why can't March 3rd be today?

And ended up creating Frontlines, which added some really nice innovative ideas to the Battlefield formula, but the game was kind of a mess with unbalanced classes and under-developed gameplay elements.

The best thing from that game was the actual 'frontline' the divided the teams territory, so you were clearly aware of when you were your territory or the enemies, and the game boiled down to pushing that line all the way down the field... kind of like football.

I don't have a lot of answers yet on the modding tools because Frostbite is a very very young engine and like you said, extremely cutting edge. The tools are not going to be available right at launch, I can tell you.

I would say that I don't see modding tools happening for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. But people know that we have other things in the pipeline, and I would say that that's more realistic.
He goes on to say that it's a purely technical obstacle, that their development tools are much too complex for end users.

So yeah, BFBC2 for PC seems like a practice round before the real deal. Which is kind of expected.

Bummer, I would have liked to recreate our paintball fields in the engine, always wondered what it would play like with choppers and tanks. :lol

But "stab in the back" because they don't feel like rushing out editors unoptimized for community use is a bit much.

Another reason I don't mind that much. It's *not* Battlefield 3. As far as I'm concerned it's just something to scratch my BF itch for a year or two.

Pretty much.

Looks like the PS3/360 demo could possibly be out on February 4th (take this with a grain of salt though):

Community member, Nigel sent us this information he received from Game.co.uk where he pre-ordered BC2. The email states that 3 week demo access will start on February 4th for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3:

Dear Customer

Thank you for preordering Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from GAME.co.uk

The developer of the game has advised us that the GAME Exclusive one week demo access (due to start on the 28th January) is now no longer available.

However, don't worry as you will still get a full 3 week access to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Demo via Xbox Live or The Playstation® Network from the 4th February 2010.

To access the demo from the 4th February please login to you Xbox Live or PSN account, search for Battlefield Bad Company 2 and follow the download instructions. No code is needed as it is now a public demo.

I played the PS3 beta, but I totally forgot the answer to this question... Does BFBC2 have single-click run vs the click-and-hold that BFBC has?

So there's no demo/beta for PC unless you pre-order? Kind of sucks. I wanna see how it runs and make sure the tanks aren't totally nerfed and the planes aren't totally buffed.

Single click run. And I couldn't be happier. ;)

It's not on steam yet though? Is it going to be on steam before the beta starts?

Yeah. But I wanted to keep my air rants brief.:lol I hate helis.

I assumed it would be for pre-order on Steam and that's how you'd get in the beta if you purchased. I don't really wanna pay the whole price and then hope the beta's helis don't drive me into blind rage.

A few questions that are crucial:

-Can you preorder the full game on Steam?
-Does preordering get you both the unlocks AND Beta access?

I hope they answer these questions this week. I really don't want to miss the beta but I want the full game on Steam.

Question from the community: Will there be a screenshot function for consoles like BFBC1 has?
Answer from senior designer: Yes

Me = happy :D

Does anyone know for BFBC2 PC , what kind of servers will be available? EA is renting servers? I can understand if it's for Clanners or super hardcore people. But what if I just want to play in a squad with a few friends? Although they gave a wide variety of locations for the servers, what are the numbers for it?

I do hope there's enough servers or it has the same behind the scenes EA servers for like BFBC and 1943 on the consoles. At least I get to play sub 100 ms I'm ok with it.

If you ever played a battlefield game on pc it will be the exact same as before. In bf2 and 2142 there where ranked and unranked servers. The ranked servers where all from official providers while unranked didnt have to be. Now there will only be ranked servers. It really is not that big of a difference. Just now instead of being able to have your own personal server to host the game you have to rent one.

So Asian PC gamers = fucked? (judging from the number of Asian BF2 and BF2142 servers when I was playing previous? Or has that improved?)

Asian Console gamers = ok (judging I played BFBC on the xbox)

Edit: Okies for 2142 there looks to be decent number of servers in Pan-Asia, but I think Gamearena usually put ping restrictions :( ohh well..

How you get one?

Edit: please be on steam soon =/ im soo tempted to get retail for beta ugh
me too, I want it on steam bad but I want to get in beta more, going to wait until friday and see what/if they say.

So did they confirm that we can invite multiple squads to find a game, like go in with 2 squads of 4 people or what?
They haven't said anything about it, but I don't hold high hopes. The squad system was very flaky in the Beta.

If anyone knows of other details for getting into US beta, or has a spare key to give a fellow GAF'er, PM me / share details!

I can't wait to play this game on my new rig that should be here by the end of this week!! :D However, I'd love to try the PC version to see how it plays before I buy.

Are they going to be handing out keys at Gamestops? I'm thinking of Pre ordering the PC version when I go to pick up ME2 but I need to be able to get the key on that day

So, I heard the beta that was out a while back was pretty badass. True? Should I be excited for this?

I love the PC Battlefields, but never played BC1. Though, a family member owns it, so I could play it whenever.

Very true. Not only that but it was more balanced than MW2 despiting being a beta.

You preorder the game, then, as soon as you get the code, you cancel your order :) Worked a charm for Uncharted 2.

Cruzader said:
yes only thing I dont remember is if they charge you when you place the order or only when it ships.

They don't. I'm going to preorder it next Monday or so, then they should send the code around Tuesday (says 2 days before beta starts) and I'll cancel my preorder. Exactly what i did with Uncharted.

Sweet, I might try this but first i'll wait and see if its on steam soon.. fingers crossed

Just preordered the game for PC, I should be getting the beta code in a week or so, I think they said that they'll send it on the 28th of Jan.
