Also while I'm a bit confused as to what the OP is really after, it still made me think of the TV show Bron/Broen where the character Martin and his wife both pout their lips in a certain way when they're troubled or thinking about something, it always amuses me.

I think what the OP was referring to is the ways that you can see some non-American actors contorting their mouths when doing an American accent in ways that clearly aren't natural for them. Bale catches a lot of heat for this in the Batman movies. Can't think of many other obvious examples though. Citing Dominic West is a fucking joke though.

closest i can think is keira knightly always having that awful forced looking smile all the time where it looks like shes gritting her teeth

Damian Lewis has a weird mouth.

Omg, yes. He's another one. It's like god made his mouth hole too small and he's trying to force the words out like he's a normal person.

Or maybe he's holding some water in his mouth and he doesn't want any to spill.

He's not a bad actor, though, which kind of makes his distracting mouth more of a shame.

I've been watching Arrow and it seems some of the actresses try to hard too have a sexy stand-by mouth.

Spoiler for S2
When Sarah came back first thing I noticed is her mouth...I can't really explain it, but it's kinda weird, especially when she's not talking

That's Kim Bodnia right?

"I Kina spiser de hunde" was amazing.

If you find someone's mouth so distracting that it legitimately compromises your enjoyment of a television program you probably need to see a doctor. Catch that tumor in your brain early!

Is there something wrong with the left side of Katie Holmes' face? Did she have a stroke as a child? I ask because she only talks out of the right side of her face.

Ruth from Luther seems to suffer from permanent duckface.

Came here for this. I walked through the living room when my room mate was watching Luther and I was just totally fucking entranced. Her lips steal every scene she's in. Can't stand it. This thread was made for her.

Tina Fey does this too and I find it kind of distracting. She was attacked or slashed or something when she was a kid though, you can see the scar on her face, so I understand. But, still.

I don't mind West. I quite like him, in fact.

I do, however, second the bullshit about Christian Bale. Fucking hate the guy in just about everything he's in, and, yeah, his mouth bothers me quite a bit.

Great Thread

My picks. Chole from 24. Mouth is in mean mode 24/7 amirite?
Isn't it more her eyes that give off the mean mode?

There's lots of threads where people learn that an actor isn't American, and everyone goes "whaaaaaa? no way.". Hugh Laurie, Idris Elba, etc.

Lets talk about folks that when you learn their country of birth, your reaction is "well I knew it wasn't fucking America"

1. Anna Torv

Fringe is a fun dumb show, but the absolute worst part of it is Olivia's voice and mouth. She's a very bad actress in general, which I could overlook if her stupid mouth wasn't always scene stealing. Every line she says draws my eye to her mouth. Maybe it's her weird accent, or maybe it's because she acts almost entirely with her lips. Whatever it is, it's annoying.

Example:

I hate how she says the world "children" so much. Disgusting.

2. Dominic West

This dude is intolerable on The Wire. Not only is he an awful actor, but he has twice as many teeth as the average human being.

Look at this bullshit:

and this:

His jaw is in constant motion, even when he's not speaking. Maybe he has trouble holding in all those teeth, I don't know.

Am I crazy or do you get what I'm saying?
Don't you badmouth my man McNulty!!!

Brian Blessed's mouth is distractingly impressive

I was scrolling and saw Brian Blessed posted and was about to get mad.
Thank god you said impressive. Brian Blessed is a god.

This is basically that "Actors whose faces annoy you" thread as opposed to their mouths specifically.

But I also came in here to say Bale. His tongue is always reaaaaally visible for some reason.

Again what do mouths have to do with bad actors?

I think people's faces have a great deal with who is a good actor and who isn't. Some people who are genuinely sad, for example, don't really look sad when they cry. Maybe they look pouty. Perhaps they look too sad and end up looking melodramatic.

I think a great deal of being a "good" actor is that your face contorts in ways people expect: your face "looks" sad when you try and look sad, your face looks mad when you want to look mad, and so forth. This is a distinct problem from being ugly/handsome, mind you, when of course being handsome is definitely a benefit.

I also can't stand K-Russ eyes, as I call them.

I spot it from a mile away and can't unsee it. Maybe I do have face OCD.

Idk either, but two examples proves the pattern.
Wait, have you met Shannen Doherty yet?
Her face used to drive me nuts back in the 90s. Most of her promotional shots were taken at an angle to hide the fact that her left eye was trying to GET DA FUCK OUT of her face.

Of course the way they contort it and express emotions is a big part of acting. I understand why people can be distracted by physical appearance, just not relating it to quality of acting. Take the example op gave with Keri Russell; that's the way her eyes are, not part of her acting. What I mean is, if someone's crying doesn't come off as genuine, it isn't because one of their eyes is higher than the other.

Ugly people can act! :P
