Bad Romances in Video Games

Jodie and Jay from Beyond 2 Souls. He literally hates her at the start, and finally becomes accepting. As you leave, you have the option to kiss him out of nowhere, with absolutely no flirting or chemistry beforehand. You have the option at the end of the game to end up with him.. after spending 2 days of your life with him, and 1 of those as enemies. Dumb.
Didn't Fahrenheit have something similarly as stupid? I don't remember the details but I do remember thinking that the fuck scene at the end was insanel stupid and made me laugh.

Otacon and anyone, especially the stuff involving his step-mother and sister.

I think Bioware has gotten better with the romances over time at least. I actually really liked some of the ones in DA:I (Sera, Iron Bull, Dorian).

More crap romances: Every single one in Skyrim, the marriage mechanic is a joke.

They have. Even in Mass Effect, if you play through the whole trilogy the Garrus romance arc is great. But of course that's not fully intentional, I doubt they originally intended to make Garrus a romance option from the second game onward.

Dunno if it counts but I'm not a fan of this:

Pictured: Ky Kiske, age 28. Loving husband and father.

Pictured: Dizzy, age 10. Ky's wife. You know that anime thing where the character obviously looks like a kid but they're actually super old? This is the opposite.

Pictured: Sin Kiske, age 4. Ky and Dizzy's son. For those keeping track, that means Dizzy conceived him when she was 6 or so.

I think it's fine, mostly because it's much better than any bullcrap loli that's a thousand years old or whatever. Because you know, she actually looks like a lady, and whats her face from Fire Emblem doesn't.

My answer goes to every male Resident Evil with every female Resident Evil character. Why don't they fuck already!?!?!

Personally, I'd much rather take this than any bullcrap loli that's a thousand years old or whatever

In Chris case, he got someone else on his mind:

Not otacon and snake though.
I can't argue with that. The "love blooming on the battlefield" conversation was really about them all along.

Furthermore, Big Boss and Ocelot make a more convincing pair than most others in the series.

Toriyama and Lightning
Truly a one-sided romance.

I'd go with the Lone Wanderer and Sarah Lyons from Fallout 3.
Starts from not trusting you to falling for you and then says at the last second that because of her job she can't be with you. Gosh dang it.

Should I spoiler tag that???

Wait.

That actually happens?

Wtf?!

Bethesda romances should only be spoiler-blocked to save people from actually reading them.

Do the forced Overwatch ships I don't like count?

Are the Life is Strange romances good?

I know its max and chloe but do Chloe and max get together in every time line?If not why?

Also remember some lady getting naked when I was trying to get into The witcher 2 but I still know almost nothing about that series so maybe I was missing context or don't remember it.

Life is Strange didn't exactly have a romance, per se, and it probably worked better because of it. That being said, there are several plot points involving certain characters that could be looked at in a romantic light.

I've only ever seen bad AMVs and heard the general jist of the story, but seeing them stood next to each other is enough to make me wonder how the hell this left the planning phase.

Yeah, Squall and Rinoa can seem so sudden and abrupt unless you did specific things and even so.

Nothing spells romance like been trapped on a spaceship with Gigeresque space monsters. In recent times I've come to imagine that Squall spent too many days on emo messages boards and got obsessed with "cucking" Seifer. It makes slightly more sense that way.

Life is Strange -
Max & Chloe
WRONG

Well, if you want me to tell you,
the game is more about Max and Chloe's friendship, but depending on your choices the arc of their friendship can develop and conclude in a more romantic light. The same thing goes for one other character in the game, although Max + Chloe is definitely superior
. Hope I'm making sense.

This has got me thinking though, what are some good examples of romance in games? The only ones I can think of other than LiS are Rhys &
Sasha
in Tales from the Borderlands and Nathan & Elena.

Veigue and claire from Tales of rebirth.

Never have i saw a video game protagonist been this obsess with is love interest. He shouts her name like 50 billion times throughout the game. It's super annoying and kind of disturbing.

I think PoP Sands of time has a great romance. The way it builds the relationship between both characters is great.

It'd probably be faster to name the game romances that actually work.

Femshep and Garrus.
Cecil and Rosa.
Skyward Sword Link and Zelda.
Uh...

Probably Squall and Rinoa.

And I guess those half-assed, wish-fulfiment S.Link "romances" from a lot of JRPG, if we can call them romances.

Witcher 3 romances are awful as well, having white model sorceress fall for this emotionless snark machine.

Then the Yenn quest where it turned out the love was magically induced, out of nowhere.

Rean and Alisa in Cold Steel are in love with each other, but for the life of ms I can't figure out why. They don't get along especially well with each other over others in the class, they haven't been through much with each other that they haven't been through with everyone but from moment one it was obvious that those two were going to get together. It literally feels like they're together because Rean's the MC and Alisa is the first girl he bumps into.

Plus they have that terrible guy is oblivious, girl is tsundere shit going on. It's a huge step down from trails in the Sky which honestly felt like it was primarily a love story, and a damn good one at that.

I'm surprised no one has brought up Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man. The two are being chased by ghosts, they bump into each other, and they fall in love.

The romances in neverwinter nights series was as screwed up as possible, i did not try out all the possible ones but the ones i can remember are ...

Aribeth -
She dies in the end, there is a option to save her but official story considers her dead just like mona in max paune, she can link up again in one of the expansions in after world , made no sense

Shandra Jerro -
she dies ...

Dragons Dogma romances are random as fuck.

I had to look it up back when I was playing it nonstop. Turns out the Arisen's "true love" is merely the last romance-able NPC you talk to before entering the castle to fight Grigori. Such a weird pre-requisite and the game gives zero warning about it.

Joel & Ellie
;p

Jodie & Ryan/Jay from Beyond... you kinda ask yourself - how did this is happen and did I miss some additional scenes? like on one of my playthroughs I was super cold towards Ryan and Jodie wanted to turn things around behind my back :P

Quick list off the top of my head:

Witcher - Geralt & Yennefer / Triss
(Shani doesn't count)
Uncharted - Nate & Elena
KOTOR -
Revan & Bastilla
Life is Strange -
Max & Chloe

Meryl & Johnny's sudden romance was ridiculous but it kinda worked haha.

Geralt & Yen actually works really well because they have such a great dynamic between them. Agree with Triss though.

Also every BioWare game.

But for clarity's sake, are their maturity and intelligence ages similar? 😕

Dizzy is half human and she ages rapidly, so although she is "8+ years" old, her body and maturity are way ahead in terms of age. That's my understanding at least, I think he should have cleared that up instead of making it sound creepier than what it is.

For me, Geralt and Triss. Seemed a bit unecessary, she is hot though.

Asbel and Cheria in Tales of Graces.

My god it takes like 50 hours of whining for them to FINALLY get together. And when it finally happens it's so bad.

I was like, come one Asbel, be a man!

Having read some of the books before hand, garalt and yen makes sense and ia actually in interesting relationship. Tris is nonsense though because he would never be with tris because of how he feela about yen. But tris wanting garalt does make sense.

Nate and Elana isnt bad. It's not great but its not bad. After the whole series it does make sense why she is with him.

However most are beyond terrible. Along with the stories. Witcher 3 only really works because the books exist. And then the best video game only ones are prob just acceptable at best. And those are rare. When it comes to video games and there stories / characters i kinda just have to roll with the dumb. The dumber the better so i get a laugh between gameplay sections (metal gear rising for example).

I read books for my story and character fix normaly.

=.=

For some reason I read the thread title as 'Best Romances in Video Games'.

So to those replying to my initial post sorry haha. It took me a while to realize my mistake.
