You need to relax. You're reading a lot into that quote (Dragon Age? really?). Larian have proven they do good work, and Wizards won't let their prize cow's first major appearance in the video game scene be a mess.
At least give it until we get some screenshots of Minsc activating devil trigger in a quick time event before you tear your clothes in the streets. Christ.
Wizards of the Coast will dictate the story and the rule set.
They will not let Larian destroy the Baldurs Gate legacy of the greatest rpg of all time with a "AAA" console Dragon Age clone.
Here is reminder for you, because some people have short memory apperently:
They tried to go into console popamole market after their initial success of divinity arpg for PC (which was great btw).
They got nearly shut down thanks to their need to make AAA games and they had to run kickstarter for DOS1 to save their company.
Now after DOS1 and 2 and one side game that was fun but wasn't commercial success they again want to do the same thing.
I think you got something wrong here. WOTC right now is shadow of itself from D&D2.
Baldurs Gate is just the name of a city on the Sword Coast. That other story is finito.Hope they bring back the classic companions like Minsc, Jan, Jaheira, Korgan, Viconia etc. Otherwise it's just not BG.
New adventure? Make a second Time of Trouble!Baldurs Gate is just the name of a city on the Sword Coast. That other story is finito.
Time for a completely new D&D adventure.

Anybody remembers the Mind Flayer's Interviews Sketchs ?
But even in BG2 all of these options were available minus the splitscreen and obviously cross platform. From the Steam page
Single-player
Multi-player
Online Multi-Player
Local Multi-Player
Co-op
Online Co-op
Local Co-op
Shared/Split Screen
Cross-Platform Multiplayer
I wonder if this will be more like the Division or other Service games.
Also "Alone, you may resist. But together, you can overcome. " sounds to me as if they are focusing more on the mmo part and not so much on the Singleplayer.
Yes, i think i was worried over nothing. Also saw that it will be released on GOG. So unlikely it will be a GaaS type game. But even in BG2 all of these options were available minus the splitscreen and obviously cross platform.
Man if Larian has the balls to let me play as an Illithid..... day 1.
Holy crap - I'm a D&D fanatic and I didn't know about that legend. A Mind Flayer NPC party member like that would be awesomesauce, though he should become part of the team well into the story."When an Illithid undergoes ceremorphosis, it can occasionally take on some elements of the absorbed host creature's former mind, such as mannerisms. This typically manifests as a minor personality feature, such as a nervous habit or reaction (e.g., nail-biting or tapping one's foot), although the process that determines the type and number of traits so inherited appears to be stochastic. Some adult Illithids have even been known to hum a tune that its host knew in life. Usually, when a mind flayer inherits a trait like this, it keeps it a closely guarded secret, because, were its peers to learn of it, the Illithid in question would most likely be killed. This is due to an Illithid legend of a being called the "Adversary". The legend holds that, eventually, an Illithid larva that undergoes ceremorphosis will take on the host's personality and memory in its entirety. This Adversary would, mind and soul, still be the host, but with all the inherent abilities of an Illithid. "
Seems like it would make a good story for the hero, or at the very least a companion character.
One can only hope!
I'm still keeping my expectations low with Larian being not exactly good at writing and world building, but we'll see. I gotta admit that I like the story hook, as the Illithid sewer quest in BG2 left things a bit open.
Should one hope tho?
I love dude's old work, but all he has been doing for the past years is acting as glorified marketing piece. Chris is involved in writing every other game, but his actual contribution amounts to basically fuck all. A character here, a passage here, all barely relevant to the main plot.
If your expectation is low with them who do you think capable of making a good videogame writing?
Activision or Ubisoft perhaps?
Larian's wiring in the past two games was basically a bunch of snakry "lul, random xdxd" drivel. If that's your thing, great. I find it supremely annoying and not funny.
wait a minute here...
Theyre one of the most respected dev out there right now and according to you theyre nothing but a bunch of snarky lul random drivel?
Ok

You're pretending as if 1, they didn't almost go out of business after Divine Divinity forcing them to quickly shit out Beyond Divinity, and 2, Divinity 2 wasn't awesome, which it was.
If they were already in finantial distress when they finished DD1 then they would not make beyond or 2. You make no sense here. Do you think developers work on water or something ?
It was D2 that nearly bankrupted them which is why they used kickstarter to cofund their DOS1 game.
Oh so you're assuming shit, as opposed to knowing shit. Good to know.If they were already in finantial distress when they finished DD1 then they would not make beyond or 2. You make no sense here. Do you think developers work on water or something ?

Here, quick timeline:Sven said:Larian had just released a critically and commercially successful game and they were broke. Again. The studio went from 30 people to three by 2003, five months after Divinity launched. It was a dark time, Vincke confesses, and one that pushed him to take a fortnight break in South Africa, where his father lived.
That was the one part that was absolutely terrible, but the rest was fine.I remember the Div2 expansion. It was so, so bad. I'll kinda defend the vanilla game, but the expansion was just terrible. Anyone remember the airship dragon escort?
