Great stuff to watch, this is.

And to think, I thought our victory over the Hawks in round 2 would be a sign of things to come. Who knew they'd be such easybeats?

Steve Johnson is OUT!! Never nice to see someone injured but the Saints need to take all the advantages they possibly can.

Gonna be a ripper! Only a bit over an hour to go.

Saints never really choked in '04 as much as Port didn't choke. Port were always gonna beat the Saints that year if they didn't choke.

The Saints have been a tease the past five years. This year I'm not sure they'll be the ones either - it's the pointy end of September that counts guys, not some mid-season battle!

my afl dreamteam game over. tipped sainters

wow, the sainters are really giving geelong a hard time in the first quarter

edit: how appropriate that 7 show a small red cross ad asking people to donate blood when baker was bleeding from the head after his head on hit with stokes :lol

wtf, geelong are being gifted goals and free kicks as they request them. umpire asked vareko if he wants the free kick or the point? Whose decision is this anyway?

Cheating yellow maggot umpires.

meanwhile ablett gets 50m penalty for playing on, and bearded fuckwit on the oter wing is allowed to argue with the umpire for a full minute without penalty. think the outcome of the game is already decided, with geelong requesting a specific scoreline at each interval during the match.

bearded fuckwit = mooney or rooke? :lol

rooke. mooney isnt a threat when he gets the ball unless you are in the crowd on one of the flanks when he shoots at goal.

Really annoyed at the umpring this match, it seems the 15 metre kick rule and play on from mark rules are only applied when its in geelongs favour, its almost as if they are untouchable.

For the record, Im a bombers fan.

Ripping first half. I can feel the Geelong onslaught growing, but we did a good job holding 'em off.

Sets the stage for a good second half. The hype has been worth it so far.

goddamn the umpires are blind. holding the ball rule has vanished now, but 50 m penalties still apply for geelong. WTF. they are stealing this game and it is so fucking blatant.

Epic.

Fucking epic!

Was going for the Saints all day, and they thoroughly deserved the win. Cats friendly umpiring (as usual) made the game closer than it should have been.

Great game though. Amazing.

Best sport in the world, and that game showed why.

suck shit geelong you cheating cunts. umpires even attempted to steal a last minute run with a bizzare free against milne. how the fuck he was not given a free there is beyond me.

geelong shuld have gone into the first break with two points on the board, and probably had about 5 goals total gifted to them through obscenely generous umpiring.

Games like that are almost ALWAYS a let down.

I expect that whoever DOES win the game, will demolish the other side. Just not sure who it's going to be.

Either way, I doubt it will be a close one.

WRONG! :P

To be fair, the free kick to whoever was on Mooney in those last 30 seconds was pretty ridiculous too - it shouldn't have been a free to anyone.

Saints deserved to win, definitely. Good game.

Yeeeeeessssssssssssss!!

Yes yes yes yes yes yes

YES!

All the damn hype was worth it. Worth it!

Bloody outstanding game. Best game I have ever seen. Gardiner's mark was remarkable and Hayes had a blinder of a final quarter.

14-0... Who would have thought! Just don't lose to West Coast next week!

Not even close, that was a free for a push in the back. Soft, but technically true.

Meanwhile holding the ball decisions against the saints were given when they held the ball out for their teammate to pick out of their hands when under pressure, yet in the 3rd quarter, abblett rolls over for a belly rub and holds it up whilst being tackled, no penalty.

Cats have clearly got the umpires favour, and it made the game 5 goals closer than it should have been.

I'm neither a saints fan nor anti-cats (thomspon was my favourite bombers player back in his day) but the blatant bias of the umpires is disgusting.

Let's not get carried away now.

I'm certainly not - the Saints could still muck up September and we'll be back to square bloody one, 14 straight wins or not! :<

I dont think its the start of a new era, but hopefully its the end of the geelong era.

Its still waaaaay too open to call it now. I would actually predict the Bulldogs to win the flag if pushed now, I think they are the real deal. A great GF would be a Saints-Doggies final, but I think that would be unfair as both those teams have not won a premiership in too long.

Adelaide, Brisbane and Collingwood can also not be ruled out either. Essendon/Port/Carlton/Sydney are fighting out for 7th and 8th. But Essendon and Carlton are two teams on the up, Port and Sydney are still on the way down or in a holding pattern.

Not a chance. They only lost by six points at the Saints home ground and that was without Ottens and Steve Johnson playing.

Put them back in and they are still the side to beat.

Oh dont get me wrong, Im not calling it yet. What I am calling is that there are two clear challengers more than capable of beating even a full strength geelong side (barring shocking biased umpiring).

setanta playing an ok game. such a turn around when he wasnt in the lineup after the cloke incident and now where has cloke gone now??? injured or playing in the reserves???

I feel sorry for Robert Harvey. He finally leaves, and now the Saints have never looked more likely.

For this reason alone I don't want the Saints to win the flag.

Selfish bastards ;_;

The game had me fucking panicked in the last minute. I was literally stuck in this weird sitting/standing position as if I was on the edge of my seat without actually touching it. And yes the umpiring was fucking atrocious.

And yes, poor Robbie Harvey :(

wow, brennan offered a week. i thought the penalties would have been more severe given the impact of the headbutt. brennan would make a great sidekick to ricciuto :D

Brennan offered a week and Chappy gets two?

Fuuuuuuuuuck that shit. Fucking ridiculous.

What part of the Brennan report bothers you?

The assessment was...

Intent: Intentional (3 points)
Impact: Medium (2 points)
Contact: High. (2 points)

That is 7 activation points = 325 demerit points.

Thats a 3 week suspension. Brennan has never been reported before which gives him a 25 percent discount and as with all players with a good record is entitled to a further 25 percent discount for an early plea which brings it to 182.81 points.

The charge was 3 weeks. Not 1. And its only his good behavior which allowed his sentence to be reduced.

Chaplin's charge was 2 weeks, and if he didnt have a pre-existing bad record, he would have only got 1.

MRP can only do it by the book, which is what they did.

Brennan now has 82 carryover points hanging over him, so he only needs to sneeze and he cops another week.

3 weeks for it is more fitting. I did not have the slightest clue what Brennan's record was like, so I just went with the 1 week I saw.

The ridiculous points system they employ annoys me, but whatever, thats not the issue.

Well yeah, technically he did get 3 weeks for it. They can't just change the good behavior clauses and early plea rules for one case.

Its not perfect, but at least its quantifiable. The old system, in which the tribunal had the latitude to use their own discretion was even worse. The inconsistencies were atrocious and subject to claims of extreme bias.

Regardless, judging by the reaction of Carr and the Port trainer, they were quite happy with the situation. Trade a bit of blood for a free shot on goal. I think Port fans should be reasonably happy. ;)

Chaplin's report should be thrown out. He was going for the ball and once you've jumped into the air there isn't much you can do other than brace for impact, which he did. There was nothing malicious in the bump, just two courageous people going for the ball. Free kick maybe I dunno, but a report? Definitely not.

Clearly.

But I WAS looking pretty right in the first quarter.

Glad I was right baout the Pies easily accounting for Essendon. Bulldogs will be next on the chopping block.

I reckon Collingwood by about 7 goals. It's the Hawthorn game I'm more worried about, despite their form. I'm sure Collingwood will be the game they 'find form' in.

Hawthorn LOVES playing Collingwood.

Collingwood won't beat the dogs by 7 goals. I actually tipped the dogs this week. I think they are more of the real deal than collingwood are

Why would anyone be worried about playing Hawthorn at the moment?

They're a rabble. I wish we got to play them again.

I always read your posts with an excited browny voice
