People that are in charge take the time to compile a list of things that will get you banned even though most are stupid things anyway? Nah, not here.:lol

I don't recall ever seeing a forum where the mods powertrip so much and everything is so vauge.

See, that is what I'm talking about here. Now I think I'm going to get banned... Damn. I mean this site is cool and many poeple here are cool but some people are out of control.
 
Don't be excessively contrarian against popular things.

This is trolling's half-cousin: there is a point at which being too doubtful/skeptical or focusing on the flaws or fallibility of something too much (whether a game, or a political system, etc) is unacceptable behavior. Or if you've dug yourself a hole, trying to argue yourself out of it will only dig you deeper.

i was banned for roughly 8 weeks because i posted a picture in the "funny picture thread" of a cartoon character who happened to have a cartoon penis for a nose.... i think 8 weeks MIGHT have been a bit overkill.
 
Quick question:
If I link to a NSFW image, but clearly label it and its not really porn, will I be banned?

I don't plan on ever doing this (I'm classy) but it seems to happen more now than when I first joined.
 
I wish '/thread' would become an unwritten rule, especially when posted in isolation. Doubly especially when the thread is regarding subjective opinions.
 
I got banned once, for a few weeks. I deserved it, though. I was being mean. Just an off day, really.

I'd be pretty bummed if I were perma-banned, but I think in general, you have to REALLY fuck up for the mods to kick you out for life. (Juniors excepted)
 
Speaking of Evilore's avatar, where is it from? It's been gnawing in my head for ages. I recognize it, but can't put my finger on it. :lol

And yeah, lurking GAF for ages before getting approved usually makes one very, informed, when it comes to rules. Both written, and unwritten. Then when one is a member after a long wait, one just shits bricks for doing something stupid. >_>

are you saying that i have now learnt a lesson thanks to the 8 week ban? because i can tell you now that a 1 day ban would have tought me the same lesson. the main issue is that the lesson itself is incredibly vague and actually seems to be contradicted by many other similar situations on GAF where a ban is not issued, these rules are more like anomalies than anything else.

I got a 30 day ban for generally acting like a dick in the "PB&J banned from schools" thread. In hindsight, I was just being facetious, but I guess I might have taken it a bit too far. :lol

if someone is being a complete dick they will get banned or permabanned.

if you simply don't disagree with someone's opinion man up and argue your point or suck it down and concede the argument.

ignore feature is for pussies.
 
Don't make a joke when a certain person might enter a thread. They might mistake it for something else and ban you for a month and then the support email address will never respond to you nor will the unwarranted ban be modified.

Well that kind of plays into the "back up your argument" aspect of GAF. It doesn't matter, if you come on GAF with a weak argument, or one entirely based on anecdotal b.s., you will get called out and shot down. It doesn't just apply to Roma people or Gypsies.
 
I think I'm banned as soon as the mods wake up because of this months NPD thread. I stated on opinion on like page 34, but was then informed that somewhere buried in the previous 33 pages, a mod had said not to state that opinion or risk banning. And of course, I couldn't go back to edit it because I was subsequently quoted at least half a dozen times.

The point is, make sure you read entire threads, even the monstrosities.. doesn't matter if its 30, 40, 100 pages, because you never know when the rules will change on you middle of the thread and you might miss some important info.

It was right there in the OP bold and red as hell. What gets on my nerves is the guys that quoted you backseat moddin.. maybe they'll get them too.
