Bandai Namco Is Absolutely Killing It This Generation

I actually have more respect for their localisation teams. Sure half of the games are only okay and the localisation is barebones, but the fact that we get to see these games is something we would have never seen in the previous generations. (I'm mostly talking about licensed games.)

Yeah, I mean, really, the average Bamco games is...solid to "pretty good." The main notable thing they're doing these days is bringing more of their average stuff west.

Similar with Koei Tecmo.

I'm a huge fan of the tales series (preordered graces f before I owned a PS3) but they've really dropped the ball HARD lately.

Killing everything I liked about the series: great characters, massive amounts of side/hidden content, fun couch coop (my roommate and I have done xillia and symphonia exclusively on multiplayer, and graces imo has the best one yet), charming art style (rip Vesperia cel-style) and varied dungeons (they've gotten almost ff13 level bad)

Dark Souls III will likely be godly (which is technically not developed by Bamco), but I will refrain from praising Bamco until I see another good Tales.

They'll only be killing it when they bring back this guy...

Come on Namco, give us Klonoa 3.
This..

Please Namco

The games are so fundamentally simple, it would not be nowhere near as expensive to develop as their other games

As a ps4 console gamer I have pretty much only good things to say about their output so far. Their lineup with games like Ni No Kuni 2 and Dark Souls 3 is second only to Square Enix's in my opinion.

No Ridge Racer, NO DEAL

Came here to post this and it warms my heart to know others are here showing their displeasure over Bamco killing off of one of the greatest racing franchises ever.

I'm very happy about Square Enix and Bandai Namco's coming output, especially Tekken 7 and Ace Combat 7. Now, bring back Ridge Racer for home consoles and give me Soul Calibur IV with Talim and it can't get any better than that.

Here's what I've realized about Namco: it's just about the only major Japanese publisher that's been able to stay the course through the HD transition. If you examine Namco's franchises, it has generally been able to maintain the same stable of franchises since the PS1 era. The only one that has really faltered is Ace Combat.

Compare that to Capcom, Konami, SEGA, and Square Enix. Everyone complains about how all their favorite franchises from those publishers evaporated after the PS2 era.

They're ok. Not really interested in Anime games despite being a huge Dragon Ball fan, and them publishing Tales games is actually a negative in my book. Looking forward to Dark Souls and Tekken for sure.

They've been killing it with Digimon for sure. Cyber Sleuth was one of the best games of last year, and Next Order looks to be amazing, too. I can't wait for next month.

NnK2. I'm pretty sure it largely exists because of NAMCO since the original was pretty successful in the west

So beautiful (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

You're alright in my book Namco; but yeah, Tales needs a little shake and a proper budget, please.

Well said !!!

Kudos to Namco / Bandai teams.
They sure do know how to adapt quickly in this ever changing gaming business.

Outside of some issues I have with Tales I agree. Namco has been pushing out a lot of games that I have really enjoyed this gen, Hollow fragment was pretty good, Digimon is excellent, Dragonball Xenoverse is awesome etc. I don't play games on PC so their output there has not effected me and I probably would hold off on buying more Japanese games on PC until The Japanese audience embraces the platform because from what it seems like most of the time Japanese publishers make the choices they do first for the Japanese market and the rest is secondary, I prefer that to when they were trying to tailor their games to western tastes.

I still question their choice to bet Gundams fate solely on Vita in the west but it is what it is I guess.

Looking forward to Tales of Berseria. I haven't played Zestiria yet, but I liked Xillia 1 + 2 and Graces f.

I would also look forward to Ni no Kuni 2, but the first game has been in my backlog for a few years.

They are awesome, if you go to any game show in the UK they are always out in full force with a ton of playable games and free give goodies. I always look forward to their area's at Comic Con, they give love to the big games and the small games they publish.

Oh, they're killing it all right - killing amazing franchises like Ridge Racer and Katamari.

Yeah, not the biggest BNE fan these days. I give them props for their role in making Smash Wii U/3DS, though.

I still prefer a "solid to pretty good" Bamco or Koei Tecmo game to most of what western AAA publishers are putting out these days.

They don't have any big hitters yet and they only publish dark souls, but they've been having goodwill for a while and they try to sincerely please fans, something we cannot say from Capcom, SEGA and Konami, imo.

Square Enix is also on the good track since they bring most of the stuff as well.

They're announcing the freaking release date on US shores and have been saying "2016" in all of their English trailers for a while now. They'd have to be insane if they pushed back the western release date to 2017 with all the build up they're doing.
I know, it would be absolutely crazy for a JRPG to be pushed back like that. I mean it's like Atlus would be insisting it's premier JRPG was still releasing this year up to the week it got delayed. That would be absolutely crazy, right?

See, I've never followed or even played a Ridge Racer so this is all news to me. Sounds more than a little shitty for fans :/

It was pretty painful to go through, but Ridge Racer was way past its '90s peak, despite some excellent titles last decade.

Just need that compilation slash amalgamation, Namco.

And do a UGSF Starblade/Galaxian³/Gourb/Zolgear remaster while you're at it.

And arcade Tekken 1-5, thanks.

They single handedly ensured the Vita has a great 2016 just from there line up of games alone:
-Digimon
-Ray Giant (another company is going the localization)
-God Eater 1 & 2
-SAO Hollow Realization
-Gundam Vs.

I'm also interested in other Vita stuff from them (One Piece Burning Blood for example) but its very impressive they continue to bring great stuff over to the Vita. I got SAO (both games) day one or close to day one when they came out on Vita and own a good amount of there Vita output (SAO games, Tales of Hearts R, Vita Katamari, ect).

While it bites that recently (and in the past like with the original Dark Souls) they do a shit job with the PC versions but outside of that, I have no issues with them honestly :).

Its also worth noting that they had a big hand (developing) with Smash Brothers 3DS/Wii U and the 3DS version is a game I play daily; love them for that too XD.

They are a great publisher that compared to every other JP publisher this generation, they got the ball rolling for their own content a lot faster then everyone else.

Personally, since I mostly play portables I'm loving their Vita support (I can only complain about which Gundam game they decided to localize) , and I'll be getting Project X Zone 2 very soon.

People complain about Ridge Racer Vita, but aside from the lack of content it played well, had on-line multi-player and was still RR at its core.
I can only hope they go back to its roots and it receives the same treatment they're giving to Ace Combat.

Haters can hate but I agree with you OP. Plus having them starting to support PC is awesome as well.

As far as Ridge Racer goes, i'd say people really should try to show support to Trackmania Turbo in order to show companies like NAMCO or Sega that there's still a market for pure arcade style racers. Last gen was a disaster for the genre as games like Ridge Racer, Pure, Blur, and Split/Second all tanked.

No idea why DB Xenoverse is getting so much praise. Get past the character creator and all you have left is some depressingly shallow gameplay, all style no substance. Really sad they left behind Tenkaichi/Raging Blast for this junk.

Xenoverse is good past that.
Some awefull quest design and awefull RNG mecanics bring the game down but it's still a good game
