hmmm

alright. fuck it. one last chance rare. you have my attention.

Almost everyone here wants a new Banjo-Kazooie platformer but I very much doubt it will happen at this point. Not even sure if new Rare is capable of such a game.

I think there will be a lot of disappointed people this week when it comes to Rare. Would love to be wrong. I do think Battletoads is a distinct possibility. I enjoyed the older Battletoads games but not enough to get really excited about a new one. We'll see what happens though!

Honestly - I would love a new Banjo even though I am an older gamer now, but I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't make a new one.

If anything I am more excited and hopeful to see Rare re-invent itself. So what if a lot of the old developers have since gone and left for new opportunities? Reality is, we all move on at some point and new talent steps in and that doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing.

I just want see what they have been working on and hopefully it is something good.

You know how a person will sometimes raise their eyebrow as sign of saying, "Hmm. That's interesting."?

But everyone at Rare is gon-ppppppppfffffffffffttttttttttt

I am aware of such a thing, what I was referring to was the keyword/game titles stuff he quoted. Which you listed I believe.

Wow. So Rare's getting a new logo? And it looks more like the classic Rareware logo? That's awesome :P

It's kinda weird that they used their current logo for just the Kinect Sports games, but I guess it suited those games more than whatever core projects they're working on now. :P

That "new" Rare logo is fantastic. For what its worth, as a former graphic designer, I think they brilliantly modernised their logo without abandoning the spirit of the origins. Great work.

The head of Rare (Craig Duncan) said to Geoff Keighley Rare had more to things to show later this year and 2/3 to 3/4 of the studio were on Sea of Thieves

Well, Microsoft aren't fans of announcing stuff outside of major shows so yes, Gamescom i'd expect.

Its a week or two after Rare Replay would have shipped as well, perfect time to announce a game or two for 2016 whilst people waiting for Sea of Thieves.

A lot of work on Rare Replay was done internally, so that may explain the staff numbers. Granted, it is almost done so I have no idea if they still have that many people working on it.

I don't think Banjo-Threeie is coming until 2018 at the earliest at this point. Seems insane to say that, the gap between Banjo-Tooie and Nuts & Bolts seemed like forever, but it was only 8 years. 8 years is less than the time it will take between Nuts & Bolts and the next Banjo! A "AAA" Banjo-Kazooie seems like an impossible pipe-dream to me now. The best case scenario is that Yooka-Laylee is a beloved and successful game, and following this Microsoft contacts Playtonic regarding Banjo-Threeie. (imagining a deal similar to Killer Instinct) Greg Mayles works with the team, and together they get the project going with a targeted release of 2018. Hopefully they would be able to push the series in an exciting direction while still having that classic feel.

Pretty hyped about the Rare Replay and Sea of Thieves, especially the latter. Looked so good, can't wait to learn more.

Probably Battletoads. Charla hinted at it earlier this year and Spencer wore a shirt with the logo, so we know it's coming.

Outside of Beanland's Vine teaser of him finding and fixing a banjo we haven't had any more legit hints they were working on Banjo, have we?

If they're doing Banjo, I doubt its a AAA game. Might have had their heads turned by Yooka-Laylee, perhaps especially as they are busy doing Sea of Thieves on the AAA front.

Playtonic aren't going to work on a Banjo game, and MS are probably never going to ask them to do it. Rare can do it whenever they are ready and however they want whether its AAA or smaller. If they really don't want to do it then I guess it could go elsewhere, they seem pretty down with their back catalogue right now though

No, could be Battletoads and something else, I think they will do something with Banjo though.

IF they have another game then I'm expecting BattleToads since it has had more "signs" than Banjo. I suppose by "AAA" platformer I was expecting another game with similar production values to Nuts & Bolts. That seems unlikely now.

I think Sea of Thieves is likely a 2017 title so they will fill the gap with downloadable stuff

Anyone know how big the Nuts & Bolts team was? It couldn't have been that big since Rare was working on Viva Piñata TiP to release at the same time. They also had people on Avatars, Perfect Dark concepts, and maybe even Kameo 2 concepts at the same time?

I would be fine with a smaller Banjo game.

Chris Seavor came back to voice Conker for Project Spark and he's been outspoken about how he feels about Microsoft. Let me dream!! lol

I think the Playtonic guys would love to work on Banjo-Kazooie again, it is just that their current obligations are to Yooka-Laylee with their hopes being they can make a franchise stable similar to their days at Rare.

YES!!! So I don't need to abandon all hope yet.

Sea of Thieves may still be a good game but it just doesn't scream Rare to me (looks like it is making use of left over kinect sports resources at the moment). That and being an MMO (with seemingly no single player mode) doesn't entirely thrill me. I will give it a go, but when I have in mind new games from Rare that doesn't come across as being Rare-like.

I was against Sea of Thieves at first. It was mostly because the art direction didn't evoke classic Rare enough, and I wish it was a single player game rather than online. Also the obvious one being it isn't Banjo-Threeie. ;)

Still, I think I've gotten over the disappointment after the realization that a "pirate adventure" seems like it has been a dream (winkwink) game for some of Rare's developers. In other words, Microsoft is hopefully encouraging them to make what they want.

Nick Burton was also wearing a Battletoads shirt in that Rare retrospective video that IGN put up today. He's a Rare employee who's been there for quite awhile. It's definitely coming.
