Batman: Arkham City Spoiler Thread - I Have Powerful Spoilers, Batman.

I've been doing Riddler stuff. Completing rows on the Riddler menu unlocks audiotapes on the character bios screen. You guys need to listen to these. They provide some interesting insight into what went on. Just unlocked the first 2 audiotapes for Joker. He was telling Hugo Strange a story about how he became the Joker. He didn't finish it and in the end it will probably be a lie but good stuff.

When you finish the Azrael side mission he tells you all hell is going to break lose in the future.

Yeah, the tapes are great. Penguins and two faces last tapes are really interesting.

Personally, I would have let him win. It seemed like a good plan to me. They'd cordoned off most of the criminals in Gotham, thus minimizing collateral damage which is presumably one of the major quarrels that Batman had with the League's way of dealing with crime. Obviously it wouldn't fit into the game, but it makes it all the more disappointing to me that it was handled so hamhandedly.

Srsly? Mass execution by missile strike? Including, of course, a number of political prisoners: people who have apparently committed no crime and been given no trial?

Actually, the "political prisoners" bit was one of my bigger story complaints. Not only do they get authorization to build this giant "prison," complete with permission to kill 'em all if things go awry, but they even manage to throw innocent people in there? I mean, how do you throw Bruce Wayne in jail and get away with it?

In other news, I'm trying to get into this secret door on the boat and can't seem to find the panel. I'm running all over the place with my sequencer out and nothing's clicking. Any advice? Or could there be some criteria that must be met before you can do it?

Having R'az as the benefactor was kind of a letdown for me. I was already satisfied with his appearance earlier in the game and with Strange mentioning building an Arkham City equivalent on other DC towns like Metropolis, I was kinda hoping his boss would be someone outside of the Batman universe.

Clock King really should have been put in here for those 'race across the city within a certain time limit' bits, rather than Zsasz.

Yeah, I was thinking that Rocksteady/Dini would have gone out of their way to establish an original villain in the Arkhamverse.

Arkham Universe or whatever it's going to be is looking pretty good

-Azrael (possible ally?)
-Hush
-Bane (hopefuly an expanded role)
-Black Mask
-Scarecrow

plus whoever else they want to bring back, set against the backdrop of Azrael's prophecy.

Can't fucking wait.

I hope they bring back Solomon Grundy. Having non-Batman villains is so bizarre that I hope they put in more. Like have it turn out that everything in the first two games occurred because Gorilla Grodd was using his mind control on Ra's al Ghul and Strange.

I fucking hate Gorilla Grodd

The Digital Comic explains this - Hugo Strange has a drug that basically Brainwashes the victim. Every Tiger Guard is brainwashed and Quincy Sharp is probably brainwashed too (the comic only shows Strange brainwashing a Tiger Guard)

As soon as Protocol 10 went into effect, I knew that Ra's al Ghul was the benefactor. Killing off an entire city of criminals seemed right up his alley.

Strange had Mad Hatter helping him control minds.

There is no panel. Just stand on the boat and pull out the cryptographic sequencer until you find it.

Me too. Fit his MO perfectly.

Right, there were references to that in some of the Arkham City Stories stuff as well (even tying it back to AA's insane prisoners--well done, Rocksteady!). And it's already pretty extreme to be mind-controlling a small army and the mayor. But don't governments tend to have, y'know, oversight? The kind that might wonder, "Hey, why are you throwing some contractors and a high-profile billionaire into a maximum security prison-slash-insane asylum?"

But then again, I felt the same way about the Dark Reign event in Marvel comics. Sometimes you've gotta just suspend disbelief, I suppose.

EDIT:

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. Haven't found it. Any tips on where on the boat it is?

Done with almost all the side missions except for Riddler's and I'm in the steel mill about to get my Freeze upgrade. I had to look up Hush & Azrael's "next" spots because I absolutely would've never found them casually. Really awesome endings to those (and particularly well suited for being my last side missions, as they merely tease the next game in an awesome way rather than coming to a head in a battle).

After I heard how there was a secret room in AA that had laid out all the plans for AC, I spent a little time walking around Hush's room trying to blow up walls and shit, lol. Alas, nothing.

Gosh, I would kill for more side missions. I'm so sad I'm almost done. :_(

Oh, I was expecting it to lock on to somewhere when you found it! Apparently it doesn't: you just pull it up and get a cipher instead of the radio interface. My bad.

Damn it, the Killer Croc Easter Egg is time sensitive. You can only do it after you beat Ra's. If you get out of the sewers and go back after, you'll miss it.

Not just his mask. There is a boat near where you find his mask that has a secret encrypted access panel that you can go inside and find out more about what he's been up to.

What boat exactly?

I'm just glad you don't get an achievement for it, because it totally looks like it's just part of the riddle needed to get the trophy to the left. I didn't really do anything there because I just tagged the trophy and moved on til I could figure them out.

It does give you the Killer Croc bio, though.

Hopefully, there's 2 ways to get the bio.

Easter Egg for the radio. Cyrptographic Sequencer (lol?????)

strange message with numbers. Translate the numbers to letters and it says

"I WILL RETURN, BATMAN"

I LOVE THIS GAME

RagnarokX said:
I was wondering what was up with those numbers. That's not the only numbers station you can find either, I wonder if the other one has a different message.

According to reddit, all the stations have been decoded as.

"I WILL RETURN, BATMAN"

"YOU WILL PAY FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO ME"

"I AM YOUR DARKEST NIGHTMARE DARK KNIGHT. GOTHAM WAITS FOR HIS SAVIOR."

There's quite a lot of people who could say that to Batman...

I'd bet it's more likely to be somebody from AA who didn't show up in this one. The Nightmare thing is the only real distinctive thing that says it might be scarecrow, but then the savior stuff kind of contradicts his M.O.

"His" savior?

That sounds like an oddly specific thing to say.

And then some of Hugo Strange's rantings later made it painfully obvious.

They really haven't set him up at all in the games though.

True enough, but we know Dick and Tim exist, so Jason must have existed.

I think him re-appearing would be cool. But if Rocksteady/Dini make the main villain completely original, that'd be cool too, especially since they seemed to have offed all the 'mastermind' type villains (Joker/Strange/R'as) that I can think of. The other villains that come to mind don't seem all master plan types.

An original villain might be the way to go.

It feels like Azrael as an aid and Hush as the main villain may be something of the way they're heading with all this. Hush is definitely going to be a big deal, as long as he keeps a decent standing distance away from everyone else.

BY2K said:
Seriously, how can he pretend to be Bruce Wayne with all those scars?
They'll heal. I'm pretty sure Thomas Elliott was always portrayed as the best surgeon around.

I was more impressed at Kevin Conroy pulling off an almost-Bruce-Wayne that went super evil right at the end. At least I think it was Kevin Conroy, I didn't look for it in the credits.

I didn't finish the Azrael/Hush side-quests, what exactly happened? I started the Hush one, but I only investigated one body.

Neither quests are very hard or long to finish (although both of them at one point didn't seem to register when I arrived at the next scenes immediately after that last one - I went around and did some riddle stuff and came back, not too long - IGN had a map for both, but I only really needed to find the next location before the game guided me to the rest).

The Hush one basically ends up leading you back to his apartment where you walk around and see he's been performing surgery on himself, all left behind stuff. Then you get locked in the room and he appears on the other side and explains the whole thing, while unraveling his face to reveal a scarred up Bruce Wayne face. Then he basically says "I'll be seeing you" and walks off, and you cryptograph out of there.

Azrael ends with him explaining a prophecy about how Batman is the savior or whatever according to his religious order, but Batman & Gotham will have to burn first and all that before they're saved or something. It was all kind of vague, but it seeme like Azrael had your back. I dunno know who this dude is in the comics, so I can't guess what happens after that.

Hm... sounds more like something Ra's would say than Joker would.

There's still Hush, Bane and Black Mask running around.

Azrael was/is a Batman affiliate. He replaced Batman after Bane broke his back. He was a bit more violent and had more technology, iirc.

Holy shit. Same as Deadshot.

I wonder just how much stuff Rocksteady packed in here for the observant.
Yeah one thing I like so much about this game is so many easter eggs and attention to detail that batman fans will like. Really seems like a lot of love goes into these games lol.

anyone notice the the very first shot of the game with the painting is the same pose for the final part where Batman is holding the Joker? pretty awesome. i didn't notice it before.

The Xtortionist said:
And Scarecrow.

Though I think Hush will take the reigns for Arkham 3. He can do some scary shit if everyone believes he's Bruce Wayne.

And if they pay tribute/add reference to Hush from the comic books, then they can add his potential of knowing who Batman is, know Batman personally, potentially have Batman not knowing his identity, being able to manipulate and unite all villains against Batman, etc.

Although we do need a bigger Villain if the next game is to follow the "Hell will be unleashed on Gotham" theme

Titan powered Scarecrow with Mad Hatter in tow? Shit would almost certainly hit the fan.

don't believe anything Mark Hamill says. if they give him a good script and a bunch of money, he'll be back.

I'd happy with less/no Joker in the third game, as good as he's been in both AA and AC, it's time for some of the others villains to take centre stage.

This game is incredible.

Can anyone post a complete list of all the character trophies? I love them and I want to know what all of them are. :)
