Batman: Arkham City VGA trailer

That's okay. :) I'm not familiar with the comics, so I didn't know. Christian Bale doesn't have blue eyes, and Bruce Wayne didn't have blue eyes in Batman: The Animated Series either. Though it would seem that he had blue eyes in Batman Beyond.

Yeppers. The Batman TAS is explained in one of the earlier extras IIRC. They basically said something along the lines that earlier on with the animation cells they just couldn't get the blue eyes to work in a way that really satisfied them so they settled with what they could. However, a few episodes in season 1 actually have the remnants of where they were trying for blue eyes.

As for Christian Bale. We'll forgive him. Because even without the blue eyes, he's the best Bruce Wayne they've had so far. ;)

Why on earth would it mean that? It's not like Nolan is controlled by an up and coming studio from a completely different medium

Anyway, HOLY FUCKING SHIT that trailer was incredible. Badass is an extreme understatement

Also is it just me or did the single line Batman said in the trailer not sound like Kevin Conroy? Hope to god I'm wrong on that

EDIT: Nevermind, wiki confirms he's still in.

Considering Arkham Asylum was my GOTY last year, I don't think it is a stretch that I just saw the trailer for my favorite game of 2011 :D
It sounded like Kevin Conroy to me.

Oh so good. Sooo good. I feel ashamed that i am a die hard Batman fan yet i know so little about Hugo Strange.

Is he in any of these comics i own?

In just a cursory glance over Batman Strange Apparitions is a good Hugo Strange story and actually provides a bit of background to his character.

Edit - With a bit more of a glance over, Hugo Strange is also in a couple of stories in the Batman Chronicles. Can't remember which ones they are exactly, but I know he's in there.

Those were the only two that really stood out in your list as Hugo Strange stories to me.

So, first off, hearing Hugo Christopher Lee say, "I know you are Bruce Wayne," was a very cool moment.

But... Why? I mean, yes, it's bad for the Bat, but it's not like it's going to be a real in-game issue. It's not like Stately Wayne Manor is IN Arkham City. Unless Christopher Lee Strange is going to go grab Alfred from the Batcave and publicly execute him, I don't see how this information is going to help him at all.

Unless they're going to do a crazy psych attack on him like the Scarecrow, which I'm all in favor of, (My favorite parts of Arkham Asylum,) but I think Crane has that role pretty well tied up.

Maybe I'm overthinking/overdistancing myself from the story.

Looked fn awesome but I wanted gameplay footage.

Maybe they're being smarter about not showing the whole game this time...

Can't wait. My GOTY next year no doubt.

Maybe they should give the video games guys consulting jobs for Nolan while they're at it. This computer animated action scene is better than any of the incomprehensible messes in his movies (even the homage to the Burton flick).

:lol Sadly, I agree.

So Hugo is running things eh? What happened to Joker? I thought the teaser last year showed that he recovered and was gonna run things again. If Hugo knows who Bats is, and Joker is also present...Joker knows who Batman is?

Joker is still in, but there are other characters as well like two-face, catwoman and of course Hugo Strange.

Hugo Strange runs Arkham Asylum now, Joker is just being Joker.

No idea who Hugo is....but god damn that was a good looking trailer. Bought so hard.
He was one of the very first Batman villains from back in the 40's.

Before Joker and Catwoman even.

Joker isn't interested in who Batman is. It would ruin the whole game for him.

I understood that from Dark Knight movie. That might set Hugo and Joker on collision course? I dunno. I'm just trying to understand how all these disparate criminal masterminds are going to work together in trying to kill/capture Batman. It will most definitely be an interesting night.

I think the trailer was entirely CG.

It would be a huge jump for anything. Don't count on seeing these kind of graphics in-game until 2025.

I'm a little weary of the "5x the size of Arkham Island" quote. I liked the size of the original, it allowed for that very tight, Metroid Prime style progression feel and eliminated the tediousness of backtracking. A little bit bigger would be OK, but 5x the size puts it uncomfortably in "open world" territory, like inFamous.

I believe the first person to figure out who Batman was as well. Of course the guy was insane so they jumped around on whether he knew or not.

i know its been a while since i played, but i dont recall the cg in AA looking like that. i could be mistaken...

There's actually a Hugo Strange storyline where he returns (after like decades of absence from the books), knocks out Batman, immediately takes his mask off (because he's not dumb) and goes on a grand scheme to impersonate both Batman and Bruce Wayne and auction off his identity the underworld.

The second that Rupert Thorne tries to break the rules of the cute little supervillain "game" by just beating the secret out of him though, Strange immediately clams up and claims Thorne "doesn't get it" and seemingly dies. Later, the Joker (who was also bidding for Batman's identity, so he could kill Strange and make sure that Batman's secret was safe forever) mocks Thorne for wanting to know in the first place, also claiming that a common thug like him could never get it. Thorne is immediately baffled as to why these crazy supervillains go to such lengths to find out who Batman is and destroy him, yet never want to do it.

I think the CG trailer was by Blur Studio , it's their style (I will be really surprised if it's by some other studio)

there was no CG in AA.

I was sad to hear this trailer contained no gameplay. Then I watched it. It looks absolutely awesome.

If I were Cartman, I'd freeze myself until release day.

And thus it is demonstrated why they have purely CG trailers at events like the VGAs.

For sure my favorite trailer from the VGAs. I haven't even played AA (argh) yet but I have been excited for it for a while. Definitely excited for U3, but I've got a soft spot for Batman.

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT.......WAIT.

The soldier in the chair in the beginning. That was CG?

You guys fucking with me? I would have bet my life that it was real.

Wow.

Oh, my god. That was CG? I thought that was real!

Ugh. The comments on GT are annoying. They are complaining about Hugo Strange being the villain, and they don't even know who he is. Before Joker, Strange was Batman's arch-enemy. Aside from Joker and Bane (in the comics), Hugo Strange is the best Batm-vogue in my opinion.

Fantastic trailer.

As for folks unfamiliar with Hugo Strange, he's absolutely one of the better members of Batman's rogues gallery, albeit severely underutilized (at least that was the case back before I stopped reading Batman in the mid-90's). Denny O'Neil did some great Hugo Strange stories back in the late 70's/early 80's IIRC (complete with awesome Neal Adams art!), and they're excellent reads if you're at all interested.

Lots of Bats compilations out there, but I'm pretty sure at least a couple of them popped up in The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told TPB.

As for the game...cannot wait!

Rocksteady went from "who are these guys?" to "I love these guys!" after playing the first game. CG or no, appears as though they're well on track to at least repeat their prior success. Here's hoping they exceed all (reasonable) expectations and deliver another fantastic Batman game!

GT comments are full of lil kids. don't mind them.

It would be really odd if AC and Dark Knight Rising both featured Strange as the primary villain. Even though the two Batman interpretations are completely incompatible, is this pure coincidence or Warner trying to pull the two closer together for co-marketing purposes?

Of course, the film rumours could be false.
