Batman: The Brave and the Bold E3 Footage

This game is supposed to release tomorrow, why no early impressions from the media?

I'm wary of this, so I'm going to Gamefly it before I purchase. Sorry Wayforward. :(

I just found out that this show exists earlier this week and fell in love with it immediately. Everyone should watch it.

Everyone.

The show is stupid drivel imo. The villains are so stupid. There's one "villain" who throws like postcards or some shit at Batman...and one that's Santa Clause....yeah

I played the Wii version yesterday. Not more than 15-20 min, but I absolutely loved it. You choose your character and a partner (different from the Player 2 player), and you go on your way about beating thugs up.

The demo I played had the wiimote and nunchuck combo set up, which I was wary about, but ended up loving. You press A to attack, B to jump, and shake the wiimote to do a strong attack. if you're mid air and shake the wiimote, you do a downward kick. Holding jump allows you to glide.

You can always call your partner with 1, whose attacks are strengthened by how much you waggle before their animation is finished. The selection in the demo was small, but there seem to be a LOT of partners. All that was available when I was playing was Aquaman, Green Arrow and Booster Gold (all of which had attacks that were true to their character). You can also fill up a super charge bar that allows you to do a super attack by shaking both wiimotes. The controls were pretty simple, and had a good feel of weight and friction to them. Great use of rumble.

The humor is pretty much what you'd expect from Brave and the Bold, including Robin's catchphrase when you select him as your character: "Time to go punch crime in the face!"

I watched a bit of the Brave and the Bold cartoon, and really enjoyed it. This game seems very much in line with the cartoon in terms of tone.

I'm actually really pumped to buy the game.

FAIL.

Brave and the Bold is a great interpretation of Golden Age DC/Batman.

Same here. As much as I'm looking forward to it, I just don't have enough information to justify an outright purchase.

agreed. although some of those stupid villians are real batman villians from his old old old comics but still, there is a reason they were left out of the superior animated series.

Is there any option for non-Waggle play? I ask because my friends are of the anti-Wii variety so playing co-op with the waggle deficient could be problematic.

Good question. I asked the guy that was demoing it and he said that he was pretty sure it did, but I didn't have a chance to check the case. I'm pretty sure it does.

All of the waggle abilities in the game could easily be replaced by either another button, or rapid button pressing.

(People who hate Brave and the Bold hate freedom)

I hope so.

I'll wait on reviews. :(

I'm pretty sure I'll be picking it up tomorrow, so I'll let you know then.

Eh its pointless to fight on this

I will just say that I and many others here on GAF really dig the show. Its a refreshing change for the character. And its good-natured fun makes it highly recommended.

Yeah, would be great if people knew more about comics and all that. Unfortunately all they know is the Nolan Batman movies; so there can only ever be one Batman. Nevermind the 60 years the character has been around in various incarnations. :lol

Pengy is correct as usual.

"That's not my Batman!"

Personally enjoy the show and the love it gives to past/present comic book heroes and moment that usually aren't given any spotlight time.

I hope this game turns out well.

Batman's interpretation is varied - there is NO true definition of a character. Really, if he is "dark" and "grim", they should have lost his bat motif.

Just because it isn't dark doesn't mean it sucks. Just because it's dark doesn't mean it works well. Case in point - All-Star Batman and Robin is dark and yet is considered to be one of the worst Batman books to date.

I had the opportunity to watch this being played at the local mom and pop store on Saturday. It looks great, controls great from what I could see, and is an amazing throwback to the 16-bit sidescroller classics. I was ready to buy this on the spot, but they were not selling it until Tuesday.

That's mostly because it's a terribly written comic, but yes, I agree.

This screams "I don't really know anything about Batman, and I don't read comics. All I know is one TV show and a couple movies! I'M AN EXPERT!"

I'm not surprised. What I played was awesome. I'm working on an essay right now, but I'll definitely give my impressions when I go out to pick it up today.

So with a bit of luck both superhero games on Wii are decent to good? Good stuff.

Think he is referring to Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions.

Also, MTV chims in

While there are a few things worth complaining about in "Batman The Brave and the Bold The Videogame," for the most part, the good far outshine the bad. The game is a tight, fun experience that holds very true to the source material. Even thought the gameplay is a bit repetitive, both fans of the show (young and old), and fans of Batman in general should enjoy all of the game's episodes, as long as they aren't expecting it to be "Arkham Asylum 1.5."

yay!

Will pick up for some good ol fashioned co-op action.

damn where are the reviews for this, I just heard about this game, it looks like an old school beat em up with co-op multiplayer

Reminds me of the adventures of batman and robin on the genesis. I really like what Jesper Kyd did with on that soundtrack.

You are correct, now that iv'e been outed for what I really am I will crawl into a hole and cry about how I don't know anything about Batman.

A quality 3rd party effort?

I thought those were a myth on the Wii?

I may pick this up if the price comes down. I just bought Other M, so I can't justify another 50$ purchase

Just picked up The Brave and the Bold today, and this game is an absolute blast to play. As a beat em up, this is how the Scott Pilgrim game should have been like.

The game also has a wicked sense of humor.

In the museum level, the canned narration describing the cat exhibits is frickin' hilarious. :lol

Was only a matter of time, IGN's review is in at 6.5

If The Brave and the Bold was a downloadable title I would buy it in an instant. But it's a full $40 game. There's a lot of flair and style with The Brave and the Bold, but it's a pretty mindless affair, even for a kids' game. It gets repetitive, and I found myself wishing every episode was shorter so I could see the cool cutscenes faster. Batman fans with young kids might get a couple days worth of fun out of this. I found it most enjoyable to play one episode a day over four days, because otherwise the game got more annoying than Bat Mite.

Picked up the game today. Really enjoying it. I'm up to episode 3 right now.

For TTOB: No CC compatibility. Sorry. :(

lol so IGN lambasted it solely for the price point... while praising shallower games that are expensive.

Sorry, but I'd rather support this game than overpriced shallow games.

the ds version looks pretty cool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxnS1_Jd9os

i'm not entirely sure how different the two versions are. seems like the gameplay is not quite the same in the ds version. it looks like there's more platforming and very basic puzzle solving, while the wii version seems to be more of a straightforward brawler. although i'm not entriely sure if that's true, but the ign review also hints at this. is there any more info about the differences out there?

ign is so full of shit, bah

anything which is 2D should be a downloadable game in their eyes.
Craig Harris on Contra 4:

7.5 Graphics

It looks good. It's a visual step backwards from other Contra sequels on current gen systems...this is meant as a follow-up to the 16-bit games, so 3D is out, 2D art is in.
