Batman v Superman is not that bad...

It wasn't the trainwreck that Suicide Squad was imo, but it's far from what I would call an enjoyable movie. None of the character motivations made a lot of sense to me, Synder treats Superman as if he's a terrorist armed with a nuclear bomb and Lex Luthor was just bizarre. Not to mention the many flashbacks, the youtube vid introduction of JL and a jar of piss. I didn't leave the theater hating it, but it's not a movie I'd ever watch again.

Yep, only GAF hates Batman V Superman.

This is why I find reviews to be irrelevant for any type of media (Movies, shows, games, music, etc....) If i want to watch a movie after being interested by the trailer, ill go watch it and review it myself instead of relying on somebody else's opinion.

I finally watched this movie because I felt that I "had to" and I was expecting complete trash. But it's not that bad. The biggest issue I have with the movie is of course that character's motivations make absolutely no sense, but it's something I can get past. In fact I think it's a much better movie than Dark Knight Rises which was just boring and action just seemed fake. Anyone else here enjoyed it? I can see why many people would not like it, but it's hard for me to understand why so many hated it...

EDIT: I should probably clarify that I watched Ultimate Edition and that I don't think that it's that great, but I found it more enjoyable than Dark Knight Rises and way more enjoyable than I expected it to be (I actually made it through 3 hour movie :))

The Ultimate edition adds in stuff that, when absent, made the movie much more nonsensical in theaters. I think it's still a bad movie with it, but without it it feels like an unconnected set of action scenes.

I thought theatrical cut was hilarious. Loved seeing Batman gun people down mercilessly. That shit was mind boggling.

The Ultimate Edition was a marked improvement but the movie has a lot of problems that can't be resolved with a "director's cut".

Still gave us the best onscreen depiction of Bruce Wayne/Alfred in cinema history. And outside of the killing, Ben Affleck was stellar as Batman. The voice modulator was something that the Nolan trilogy so desperately needed. My god why did no one think of it sooner?

The final battle also has the most eye-rolling stupid explanation for how they do more Man of Steel destruction porn without having the Man of Steel body count. Conveniently every single place that Doomsday lands in is unoccupied because apparently nobody works night shifts in Gotham or Metropolis.
I wish superhero films would come up with more creative and interesting ways to end films that isnt just "let's destroy a bunch of shit just because". Its fine once in a while when theres variety, but there isnt any.

I found the movie bad.
I think the most disappointing part was how they set up the Superman vs Batman fight. It was already bad enough you knew doomsday was coming because of the trailers.

But the part everybody wanted to see was just lasted a few minutes and only one of them was Trying to fight.

Lexs plan was all over the place and didn't make much sense. Superman didn't do much and they completely blew that courtroom scene that could've been interesting hearing what Superman had to say.

The Flash scene was terrible because they made look like it was a dream. It didn't need to be another dream sequence. The Knightmare scene was poorly used as well. It could've worked but it seemed shoehorned in for "cool reference" rather then adding to the movie.

Yeah I would say it's better then Suicide Squad but I didn't come close to as entertaining as SS. Even if SS was entertaining for the wrong reasons. Both these movies are frustrating because they could've done better. I'm hoping Wonder Women is good. It has the benefit of being set 1914's, stand on its own.

Not sure which version I saw on HBO, but it was terrible. Really terrible.

Even worse than MoS, which I find ridiculous for the most part.

The port is abandoned thats why Batman lures him towards that.

"It sure is a good thing that there isn't a single person anywhere near this huge fight."

Was expecting "it's not that bad...it's terrible". Which is how I feel. It's terrible and I do my best to forget it even exists.

As just a movie, it sucks.

As a movie for fans of Batman and Superman, it's like delivering a jar of urine marked "Granny's Peach Tea" to your doorstep then blowing you up while a selfish demagogue stares on nonchalantly.

What was up with that? Superman can't smell piss? I don't have super smelling and I think I could smell a jar of piss from a few feet away. He can't pick up on her abject fear and elevated heart rate as she looks at it for five minutes? He doesn't have superspeed any more?

Maybe it's the over the top hatred of this movie on the internet that made me go in to the theaters with REALLY low expectations. Maybe that informed my opinion so much so that even the theatrical version was something like a 5-6/10 for me. Just kind of average. But the Ultimate Cut makes it a legit enjoyable movie for me.

One of the things that bothered me about the movie is that superman keeps beating the shit out of Batman for no reason. He has the information on what Lex is doing but still, instead avoiding the fight with the Bat he just jumps into throwing punches.

The Ultimate Cut is Top 5 CBM for me personally and its the only version that should have existed. Most of the current superhero movies I enjoy once or twice but then have little interest to revisit, with the exception being Winter Soldier, Civil War, Logan and BvS. BvS is one of the few that has stuck with me long after the initial view, which is what makes it so special to me.

At that point he was fighting for both his and his mothers lives. It was clear by then that Batman would not listen or yield.

The ultimate edition is a much better movie, major plot points actually make sense and Clark gets much more character development. That should have been the version released to theaters.

There's 2 demos out there that would like this film.

Those who voted for Trump.

Those who are too young to vote.

-Pointless, grim for grim's sake killing of Jimmy Olsen
-A Superman that seems really dour on having to save people
-Unexciting youtube videos of the justice league members
-Batman murdering a bunch of people
-the big, titular fight is in a shitty abandoned building, main moment is in a men's room
-Doomsday looked like complete ass
-Jolly Rancher
-Jar of Piss
-Lex blowing up his assistant for no reason
-Lois somehow knowing to go back for the spear

Probably a dozen more things I'm forgetting.

Why not give the frigging spear to the super strong warrior woman? She's clearly an expert in weapons and kicking ass.

I hate fights that are predicated on sitcom level miscommunication.

Like, Steve fighting Tony in Civil War wasn't this elegant feat of storytelling but at least it rang true. I can understand why people did what they did. Can't say the same for BvS.

Hey, I don't fit in your demo groups. And if Trump said that he hated BvS, I'm sure that these people would defend his point of view as vigorously and any other :)

The fault of the DCEU is that critics compare it to amazing films like the Nolan trilogy. If you look at the general audience's perception of the film, then it isn't that bad.

Critics should take DCEU movies less seriously and review them like a FatF film or Marvel film imo

What nonsense. Marvel and D.C. Movies aren't judged differently. Marvel movies just happen to be enjoyable and fun and entertaining. D.C. Movies are over serious garbage. Of course they rate lower.

It's not up to critics to fix this situation, it's up to WB. Make a good movie and you get a good review. It's not a complicated formula.

Personally I found it really underwhelming. The ultimate edition fixes some of my problems, but it's still not very good, & Superman getting the shaft in the film is what I dislike about it the most.

Because they wanted to kill Superman, which they sure as shit didn't earn. Clark getting hit with the fatal blow was the moment I dipped out of the theater.

Such an awful movie.

What Superman should've said to Batman:

"Luthor kidnapped my mom and will kill her unless we fight to the death." Boom. Conflict solved.

What he says instead:

"Listen to me."
"You don't understand."
"There's no time."

Fuck this movie. Action was good tho.

the fuck you are talking about? superman comes, tells him that lex luthor has been manipulating, and what does batman do, activate a trap, batman doesnt give a fuck about what superman has to say,

dont blame all on the man of steel

He could have just said "Martha!" :)

It’s a fun movie a couple of the action sequences are really staged well and some of scoring is great. Ultimate Edition answered a good number of questions about scenes in the vanilla version that made little sense.

Honestly even the Luthor/Martha plot felt unnecessary. The movie already gave really good reasons for why Batman and Superman would come to blows. Batman thinks Superman is dangerous and reckless because of what happened in Man of Steel, Superman thinks Batman is too ruthless and crazy with his methods. Boom, that's all you need right there.

Actually, Clark says: "Bruce! Please! I was wrong. Lex wants" before walking into a trap Bruce set for him by slowly backing off. Batman is a genius tactician!

Supes' death made me think of Once Upon a Time - you get a decent number of characters killed off, but not a single one has ever had any emotional impact on me. It seems like half the characters that 'die' come back in some way later on, so first thought in any death is 'So well this actually stick?'.

BvS had these big funeral scenes for a character not a single person watching would believe was actually dead.

Batman's debut in this movie is crawling on the ceiling while dodging shotgun blasts after he saved a bunch of sex slaves and branded a man's flesh with a bat symbol.

Marvel movies judged on that Chopped Junior scale.

It's horrible. I've only seen the extended edition and I found it a bloated mess of shots with no meaning or weight behind them whose sole existence is to look nice in screenshots of gifs.

Bad bad bad movie on nearly every level.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't all that bad. The Ultimate edition fixed the story, but parts can be removed and parts can be rearranged (everything Lois is doing should've been done by Wonder Woman).

Not sure if you're saying that's a bad or good thing.

If it weren't for Watchmen I'd probably agree.

You could be right. Especially if we are talking about the Director's Cut.

Of all superhero movies made in the past 15 years, i have watched only these more than once:

Iron Man (twice. Very enjoyable. Still the best Marvel movie, in my opinion. Excellent characterization)

Batman Begins (probably around 10 times, once on a bus in Peru in Spanish because why not?)

The Dark Knight (15ish times? Opening night in legit IMAX, 2 days later in regular cinema)

The Dark Knight Rises (Twice, opening night in legit IMAX, once in home theater to allay fears of it being trash (nope, it is). Bane was awesome, the entire rest of the movie was really bad, imo)

Man of Steel (5ish times. Love the score, the sequence with Clark trying to find himself while saving fools on the oil rig platform, Krypton's portrayal was interesting and Jor-El was great. The Smallville fight and Metropolis fight remain the most convincing super-powered superhero fight ever. Only thing I didn't love was forced romance with Lois, which never seemed grounded in real feelings, and the fact that she looks 20 years his senior.)

Watchmen (3 times, opening night, Blu-ray directors cut twice. Incredible movie across all aspects. Cinematography and fight choreography are top notch, so many panels were translated perfectly to the screen. The ending was improved from the comics. People say things like, "Snyder knows visually what he is doing, but totally misses the point of each scene" but I simply cannot understand that mentality. I had read through the comics right before the movie and thought it was absolutely amazing. Earley, Crudup, Morgan, and Wilson are incredible.)

Batman v Superman (3 times, theatrical opening night, Ultimate Cut in home theater twice. I enjoyed the theatrical cut, but could recognize the inherent problem in editing, and the way many plot lines were butchered, but could feel an underlying excellent movie. Seeing the Ultimate Cut at home on Blu-Ray on my 110 inch screen and blaring surround sound made me appreciate the film so much more. Amazing score, and overall soundscape. Cinematography is best in all comic book films and it's not even close. Warehouse fight best in all of comic book movies. UC fixed all issues with the editing, pacing, and character motivations. My one gripe is how confusing the dream/vision sequence is, even for someone with a cursory knowledge of comic book characters and backgrounds. The fight scene when Batman is in the desert is really overly scripted, too. Every move is so telegraphed, it looks like TDKR.)

Nothing else about CBMs have ever grabbed me enough to force a rewatch. Marvel stuff to me has been way more bad than good, barring Iron Man, Dr Strange, Captain America, and GotG.

I am not a big comic nerd and don't care if histories and character archetypes aren't translated to the screen 100% intact. What I do care about is watching an excellent film that makes me feel and think. I get that on spades with BvS.

I have not seen Suicide Squad, and may not for quite some time, because it looks so crappy. I hope the critical consensus is as wrong about SS as it is about BvS, but it doesn't appear as if that will be the case.

It's random trash, almost worse than the reputation it has.

It's like a really hard swing and a miss that starts to ask interesting questions and then just, rather than doing nothing, does nothing sensible or interesting.
Frustratingly bad.
