Battery Packs for 360 controllers. Cracked open. Interesting

This was posted HereisOblivion on the IGN boards, and I thought it was interesting enough to share here.

I cracked open my battery pack from MS since it finally crapped out on me.
I'm surprised.

Here's a pic of what's under the pretty white plastic:

All they did was took 2 AA rechargeable batteries which costs a total of $3, and tied them together, turning them around and selling the Play and Charge kit for $20! :O

Crazy. I think on the Batterypack alone they're making a 300% profit.

So for those of you that think you're getting a better battery by using MS's battery pack..... you're not. You're just paying more money. :p

:lol

A thread worthy of a single emoticon.

btw: I'm sure that piece of orange tape is worth 10 dollars. It's made of space-age polymers.

Two thoughts:
1. Well, what else are they going to have in there?
2. It's obviously for profit, so I wonder if at say $5 cheaper, would increased sales cover the price cut?

Hey, at least they're using Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables! Those are some of, if not THE best ones out there.

Technically, the battery packs are only $12 retail. The P&C kit comes with the recharging cord, which is nice to have if you aren't good about keeping rechargable batteries charged (I'm lazy and forgetful).

I hate that stupid play and charge pack. Mine lasts for about 3 hours and I need to plug it in again. It's total junk.

I get about twenty+ hours out of mine. Yours may be broken.

I guess essentially we could buy our own rechargeable batteries instead of paying for the 360 ones off the shelf. Which I didn't think would have been possible.

What he is saying is that MS could have sold a single small cable and you could have used any $3 pair of rechargeable batteries you wanted.

Their entire mantra has been nickeling and diming people this gen. Bought a Core? Get an HDD or a memory card. Don't want to deal with batteries? Pay MS for the play & charge kit. Want to watch high-def? Get the HD-DVD player. Want to play online on P2P servers? Pay $50 a month.

You can already use any rechargeable batteries you like. That's the nice thing about the controller, you get a choice of using your own rechargeables, or you can use the battery packs.

Core407 is on my ignore list, but quoting doesn't work, so I got to see that. It's a typical reponse from him.

Did anyone expect anything other than standard rechargable batteries? It's not like you HAVE to have a battery pack, it's just nice instead of spending X amount over a year on standard AA batteries.

You could have always used your own rechargeable AA batteries for the 360 controller. Its just the convenience of the play an charge kit is that when the batteries are getting low you can just plug in the controller and keep playing while it recharged.

Yeah but you could have the whole PLAY AND CHARGE THING for a $5 cable and $3 pair of batteries. :/

First time playing videogames, is it? Nickeling and diming has always been the path of the industry. They lose money on consoles and make it up with accessories. It's the business plan of all three console manufacturers. That's why we had all sorts of retarded add-ons last generation, and we'll continue to have them this generation and all the generations to come.

Those are the SANYO nickel metal hydride rechargeables. If you go buy them from stores they cost me 8 bucks Cdn.

They're no different than your cell phone battery. So quit crying baby.

What you say is true to an extent, but you go in every 360 thread complaining about it. Stop trolling.
