Battle Arena Toshinden (Wii) new screens

OBJECTION! That's a Sony ZN2 arcade port. That's basically an overclocked PS1.

I obviously meant an original DC game. :P
Fair enough.

How about these? :P

the arena and ground textures in the second shot spank the shots in the OP.
Not really. It's just a simple tiled pattern. The ground texture in the OP is a much larger image rather than a tiled surface (small texture repeated across the surface).

Eh. THAT is Toshinden? Err.

I don't mind the ground texture or arena, but somehow the artwork is... dunno. It didn't translate well to 3D? I mean, it was never breathtaking or anything, but these characters kind of look like they belong in a Tales game, not a fighter under the Toshinden franchise name.

Oh well. Maybe it's still a fun game. I have my doubts, but wonders do happen.

OW OW OW OW. What's with her lower torso? That looks twisted, and broken.
Welp, there's something I'll never unsee. Are her shoes facing forward?

a larger texture that looks worse is still a texture that looks worse.

Funny thing is if this was a jRPG instead of a fighting game, I know for a fact a bunch of people would have been drooling over it :lol

These days fighters are seemingly gaining popularity, unlike jRPGs.

This is a really weird mix of looking really good and really bad at the same time. Half the textures and the stages look like shit, but then you have characters with really high texture/poly detail in their faces. Looking at these screens is a friggin rollercoaster.

All I see are nipples on dem titties! They've got the graphical priorities right, why are you guys fussing over the ground texture, they're taking a page from Soulcalibur, you all love Soulcalibur right?!?

The first Battle Arena Toshinden was one of the first PS1 games I ever owned. Playing it now, I cannot understand how anyone, including myself and the people writing the fucking reviews back then, could ever have LIKED that game.

What's funny is that this doesn't look much better visually. :lol

Toshinden 2 was the first PS1 game I bought (back when they had those monstrous cases). I... probably won't be getting this. If I get one fighter on Wii it'll be Tatsunoko.

Well, at least they're showing improvement over the last batch. Still doesn't look good yet, though.

How far is this thing supposed to be from release?

Or amazingly terrible standards by the graphic whores.

You don't have to be a graphic whore to dislike these screenshots. Even my blind friend had to throw up when I put these screens in front of him. There is not one excuse possible that would make any sense for putting games out which look this bad in 2009.

Damn, that was fast.
Nah, I bet he got banned for something different. He used the "that's gay" thing one post after posting here, and duckroll closed the thread soon after so I guess he just did a simple hit-and-run for stress relief.

I think there was some confusion about this initially.

This game has absolutely nothing to do with the original PlayStation Toshinden games.

It's going playable at an event in Tokyo next week, so I'll be able to determine how much it sucks.

Objection! Moar ports!
Those games were coded for Naomi, though (which, IIRC, had more memory than Dreamcast). How many "made only for Dreamcast" fighters even exist on the platform?

Naomi = Dreamcast

Toy Fighter and Fighting Vipers 2 were both Naomi titles.

Fighting Vipers 2 was Model 3, I thought...

Came in and said nice! at the screens, and then I scrolled down to the posts...:lol

Maybe it's because I'm on my iPhone...

I don't have any real problems with how the game look, I just don't know why they decided to go with the "Toshinden" name. It's a really old IP that never enjoyed the mainstream success its competitors enjoyed, you know, when 3D fighters were all the rage. I don't a lot of people even remember that name.

Edit: ...I played the shit out of the three first games. It's sad that nobody from the old cast will make a return. It's hard to consider it a Toshinden without some THUNDAAA RINGS

they have terrible jpeg artifacting and very poor arena ground textures. the character models seem pretty nice though...
