Battlefield 1 Gamescom 2016 trailer

They call it elite classes.

I'm still a bit annoyed that they were first talking about the game as somehow being authentic to WW1 and showing the "unknown side of the war" and this is what we got. Game is probably fun but to me this just looks like a skin deep change for the series which now seems to blend Battlefront and Battlefield 4 stuff together.

Elite classes. Sounds like a terrible idea. Was there one on the alpha map? I don't recall seeing anything.

Nope, weren't implemented in alpha build. Even stuff like weapon customization wasn't in yet. Core gameplay was there and it did feel good even if game had some serious balance issues in alpha build.

As long as they aren't going down the route of Battlefront with matchmaking only.........

They wont in Battlefield. And its already confirmed it has server browser.

Yep ^

Alpha had in-game menus for everything from forming groups to options to legit server browser. In-game menu system will be extended to BF4 and BFHL in future as those were as grayed out options in main menu. That menu system was legit, none of that BLog garbage.

Elite Classes... eh. I'm concerned about it but they should only be utilised after a certain point by a player in a menu, not as a pick-up. For instance if you accumulate a certain amount of points in Conquest then you have the option to pick an Elite Class. Any other way wouldn't work for me. But from the descriptions it sounds like they're not that OP and they all have their weaknesses.

We're bound to see some today after the Squads stream so we'll see how it's implemented.

People complained also about pick up weapons in BF4.
They never became a problem and after a while people didnt really care about anymore when the novelty was gone.

Battlefront left a really bad taste in my mouth. Other than maybe the graphics and sounds, i dont want them to take any inspiration from that shit game.

Hard for me to get excited when literally every Battlefield campaign has been trash tier.

Looks incredibly beautiful though.

Bad Company wasn't so bad, but then they didn't wanna tell a super serious story (which none of their writers have been able to) which worked much better with the Battlefield formula.

Not too sure how I feel about Elites. Maybe it depends on how hard it is to actually take one down (or earn). Don't want some mini raid boss.

Game looks awesome, gonna play the hell out of it and by god as my witness im gonna suck at it.

You're doing it wrong if you play a Battlefield game for the campaign.

Wait, how do these Elite Classes work? Sounds terrible, those have been my least favorite parts of the trailers so far. Was it in the Alpha?

It will probably work the same as battle pickups in BF4. Hopefully it will be balanced in a similar fashion as well.

Well, after watching the Titanfall 2 stream and watching this afterwards, I've decided which FPS to get this Fall. Battlefield 1 looks amazing, and I used to love big battle FPS games and this is a a great chance to get back at them.

It is really strange that they decided hero classes were a good idea. If they take the same damage as everyone else, then it's no biggy. Them saying that they'll change the battle doesn't inspire much confidence tho.

That's why there's a beta too. I know NeoGaf will have some vocal feedback for Dice.

They seem to be the equivalent of battle pick ups unfortunately... but they don't seem too op. The flamethrower dude can do some major damage up close but cannot ADS and seems relatively easy to kill.

The map looks great, both visually and from a game play perspective. I think this idea of a "train with guns on it" turning the tide of the battle is a bit half-baked, especially since it can only fire directly at a couple of flags. Seems like the best place to be when the train spawns for your team is away from it.

Also as an LMG guy though it was depressing to see maybe three guys using them over 4 games, I can't help but feel recons and assaults are going to absolutely dominate in terms of player use. Even with the range limitations it seems people are happier to expend 20 rounds from an SMG in burst than they are to expend 5 from a semi auto rifle to get kill a distant enemy.
