Update: Better Framerate, higher Resolution, Increased Alpha Effects and better Textures confirmed by Digital Foundry and VG Tech

Original post:

Seems like Battlefield 1 was already patched.
Framerate feels much smoother now, when playing with 64 players. It doesn't look like absolutely locked 60fps, but it's much much better.
The resolution bug seems to be gone, as I haven't experienced it a single time on my pro. It looks like it stays on 1080p all the time, instead of the dynamic resolution.
Looks cleaner and easier on the eyes.
Other users here reporting the same.

If true, good to hear. DF's video on BF1's performance was not very flattering, but it sounds like this may fix the major issues I had with it on console.

I thought that Pro doesn't give any enhancements in MP because of the "fair play" thinking.
From my understanding in terms of frame rate, because it targets 60fps, theres no harm in it being more stable.
but 1080p instead of 900p on a dynamic resolution isnt something that matters?
I dunno, l just guessing here to be honest.

I think they were saying the only improvement might have been graphics related or maybe possibly even frame rate, and not considering these to be advantages affecting player vs. player.

It's about the target framerate. A game targeting 30fps won't be patched to target 60fps (in multiplayer)
But Battlefield 1 already targets 60fps, but is just not very stable (on original PS4).

A game that is locked 30 fps in multiplayer on ps4 can't have a multiplayer that is locked to 60fps on ps4 pro.

However, a game that can go up to a locked 60 fps on ps4 but fluctuates between 40-50 fps can have a multiplayer that will be able to reach the locked 60 fps more consistently on ps4 pro.

No, that's pretty much it. The resolution difference isn't going to do much to introduce imbalance, nor a smoother framerate (that doesn't already exist in these games due to varying situations).

I might be wrong, but I thought the leaked documents said that Sony had mandated that 1080p was the lowest resolution that devs were allowed to use on the Pro.

I think it was more likely that a game can't target a different framerate. Like if a game is targeting 30fps on the ps4, it can't target 60fps on the Pro.

The rule is:

Base performance 30fps, Pro can't go to 60, has to be 30.

Base performance targeting or at 60fps, Pro can be 60fps, targeted or capped/locked.

Resolution isn't included. Frame pacing issues aren't included.

Oh I see. Thanks guys. If it's true that BF1 plays at 1080p standard on the pro, I'll go out and buy me one end of November for sure!

I really hope this doesn't set a precedent about how multi-plat devs handle games on platforms other than their marketing partner's. There's no reason DICE wouldn't talk about the upgrade otherwise.

Yea, it kind of makes sense I guess.

In terms of doing some comparisons ourselves whilst waiting for DF to look at this.
Is there any chance of say, some people who have the Pro in there being able to take some quick screenshots and then users of the OG PS4 in here taking shots of roughly the same areas on the maps and doing some eye to eye analysis?

Not sure if anything could be spotted, but its something to do whilst waiting for the hours to tick by for our Pros to arrive!

It still isnt locked.
Hopefully it's really close, as in 60fps 99% of the time with some dips into the 50s. That's really all I want. Some extra graphical effects would have been a nice bonus but not at the expense of frame rate. I am curious what this looks like on a 4k display though.

Not at all, if a game already has Pro support on disc why should it be patched? ;)
Going forward games won't get patches specifically for the Pro, they'll support it straight on disc.
The current situation is that people are finding improvements in the Pro version by themselves and Dice can't say anything because they have a marketing contract with Microsoft so they can't promote the Pro with their game in any way :D
Btw I guess that soon websites like DF will make a tech analysis to find out what's going on.

The framerate improvement is not a placebo - I avoid the 64 player modes on PS4/X1S due to the woeful performance. Also not a placebo to state that the dynamic resolution bug is absent on Pro. It looks sharper - like native 1080p, but that's less noticeable.

Sorry, no 4K set to report on that side of things.

Performance over resolution seems like a good compromise.
The big November update is due shortly - 1.02 may just have just included preliminary enhancements for Pro. We'll see. But so far the Big Mac is delivering what I wanted out of the game.

Yea, this NDA has been ridiculous.
I doubt this is an NDA thing. Why would they be allowed to announce they are supporting Pro but just restricted by NDA on saying "the patch is here"

I don't buy the NDA theory

Agreed. I think its more... the Pro support is going to be very underwhelming for BF1 and they are choosing not to highlight that.

Is the frame rate on normal PS4 really that bad?
I'll put it this way. The Xbox One version had better performance on average and I had to stop playing that version and go back to the PC version because I couldn't handle the fluctuations.

This is coming from someone with over 21 days combined on Battlefield 4 and Hardline on PS4 and Xbox One playing primarily only Conquest Large.

So has a patched been released or the patch already on the disc? Regardless the lack of any talk about BF1's Pro enhancements make me think it will be a letdown. If the framerate is still shit I'm not buying it.

What about the "cpu bottleneck"
The GPU seems to be more of any issue than the CPU. The Xbox One CPU is only tiny bit faster than the PS4 so I doubt that accounts for the performance gap. More likely that the PS4 version's targeting of higher resolutions is the issue.

So that is a Dice developer saying that they are not allowed to discuss the game even now? I find that hard to believe, but I'll take that over them just hiding a poor effort.

Nah. It's an NDA thing.

Dice aren't exactly a dev that wouldn't know how to effectively use 2x GPU power easily. Especially given he PC version.
