Battlefield 1 PC Performance Thread

CPU utilization should not be this high, something is off here. Sure the game looks great and I'm sure it takes a lot of processing power to get it to run like this but man most games do not push the CPU this hard, this is almost Prime95 levels of hammering and Prime95 is intended to stress test CPU's.

I hope DICE can do something about this, even high end 8+ threads CPU's are getting maxed out, no other games do this, maybe Cities Skylines or other similar sim games? I've heard those are CPU heavy but BF1 seems to be taking the cake so far and I don't know but it seems more of a "bug" since so many people are reporting this across multiple levels of hardware.

The beta did not push the CPU this bad, I've played on Sinai Desert with the exact same settings I had on the Beta and not only do I get 100% CPU usage but also lower FPS, this was not the case during the beta. Beta ran flawlessly, this "release" version stutters, has major FPS drops, etc. I hope a patch is on the way.
Exactly what I'm saying, a lot of people in the trial thread got off on going haha I got the i7 tough shit. The problem is it shouldn't be this bad, at least not without an explanation of why.

My i7 4770K@4.4GHz is being pretty much maxed out and it's holding back my GTX1080 on Ballroom Blitz where my utilization was around 70-80% on it at 1080p. :o

I had the same problem... same cpu, 16gb ram, but a gtx 1070... I had to drop 1 step below ultra, and then it ran fine

GTX1080
4930K @ Stock
32gb 1600mhz DDR3

Ultra @ 1440p = 100-120fps

DX12 makes the game unplayable for me. Though from what i've read that's pretty common apparently. Huge stuttering when I turn it on.

Wow. That utilisation is god damn intense. Especially considering your OC and CPU. I wonder if it is intentional or not. The scaling is "impressive" but at the same time, I have a hard time imagining that CPU being so limited there. It would be interesting to look at thread utilisation @ 720p on something like a 6 core or 8 core i7.

Well, I am getting 99% GPU utilization in that shot as well, so at least I'm not bottlenecking. Either this game genuinely puts all HT threads of the CPU to use like no game ever has before, or it's an issue that will simply be patched out down the line.

Surprising to see nonetheless.

Might as well add that the high utilization is not something I have really noticed in the game in some way. I can feel that the fps is a bit lower on some maps, but it has never gotten to the point where it's annoying or anything. It's usually at 90+ and some maps do give me full GPU usage and I hit 130-140fps.

FX-8320 @ 4.0 GHz
GTX 970
24 GB of RAM

Getting pretty much locked 60 on conquest, but about 47-60 on Operations. Also locked 60 in campaign as well. Haven't tested out CPU Utilization but I just wanted to give my first impressions.

Settings on High, Post-AA on TAA and AO is HBAO, 1080p with 100% resolution scale.

Rig is;
i5 6600K @ 4.2GHz
16GB
980Ti

60FPS cap
bf1trial_2016_10_18_1kwapg.png
120FPS cap
Can someone explain to me how and why FPS cap has direct affect on CPU utilization percentages?

Edit: With 60FPS cap game feels slow, stuttery and... delayed

Drivers are crashing like crazy for me, it only happened a couple times in the 10 hour trial. Has happened 4 times this morning. FUN

It's the GetDeviceRemovedReason crash for my 680.

i5 3570k @ 4.7ghz
GTX 1080 SC

Should I be concerned about my CPU performance in 64 player matches when used in conjunction with a 1080?
I see that even some i7 CPU's are being brought to their knees by this game going by some of the responses in this thread.

This game shits all over i5 6600K's like nothing. Take out from what you will, but if you can afford 10h trial do that before going for 60€ full version.

The higher the FPS, the higher the CPU & GPU have to work, which means more utilization. Same reason you may only get 70% GPU utilization in a certain game with the FPS capped to 60, and 99% with it uncapped. If you're seeing a CPU bottleneck, you could bring up the resolution scaling (133% equals 1440p, for instance) to take some of the work off the CPU, and put it back on the GPU; you might get higher GPU utilization that way.

Interesting note, I played a couple matches today, and my CPU usage is down to a much more reasonable 50-70% (HT enabled). Perhaps the issue might have been server side?

Getting about 100fps high settings at 1440p. CPU limited in 64 player game modes drops me to about 80-90fps. Runs amazingly well. Playing on a 144hz gsync monitor is just a dream. 980ti/4790k/pg279q.

just signed up for Origin so will fire this up when i get home. i'll report in on my performance for anyone with similar specs and wants to know what to expect
i7 6700k @ 4.8

That doesn't explain in any way why game turns into stuttery shitshow with obvious slowdowns when running game with 60FPS lock. I can't maintain 120FPS locked, but at least game isn't stuttery shitshow when FPS goes up and down between 90 and 120. If we are to assume game takes X% of HW in order to achieve smooth experience at Y FPS then there is something quite seriously wrong with BF1.

Edit: Also if there was some server side fix then all CPU's would see benefit, not jut i7's. Performance is same stuttery mess it was several days ago.

I see some stutters in this video but it could be other factors, looks playable. Hopefully they got optimization/tweaks in the works.

May sound simple, but have you tried borderless windowed mode? My friend was having the same issue in the beta until he switched it from fullscreen to borderless.

Edit: FYI, all four of my 4770k's cores can max out to 100% in games without HT enabled. Happens in Mankind Divided, AC Unity, Crysis 3, etc.

And Mankind Divided doesn't cap out my i5 6600K so there is that I guess. Granted been month or so since I have played it and already uninstalled the game so can't check for sure.

Also no trial left anymore so can't test between different modes [fullscreen / borderless]. CPU utilization is still issue with this game when you consider that basically everyone is reporting very high %'s and very noticeable increases from beta without anything seeming to be different in the game. For me from beta to this version gave ~20-25% increase in CPU utilization for no apparent reason.

Guess it's time to finally upgrade from my 2500k. :(

Been running that thing at 4.5GHz for over 4 years.

Wonder if I should bite the bullet and buy a Titan X as well or just wait until next year. Currently running a 980ti.

You could buy another 980 Ti second hand. That's what I've done. I've yet to receive it though. SLI support in games seems rather poor though.

To clarify, I've seen spikes, or short periods of 100% CPU usage with HT off in the aforementioned games, not constant. Then again, I play all of them uncapped via G-Sync at 1440p, so I'm sure I'm seeing more usage than I would see at 1080p with a 60 fps cap.

Unfortunate you can't test fullscreen vs borderless now. I had the same issue in the Hardline beta; BF games sometimes have unexplained fullscreen performance issues on certain setups.

Hopefully all of these issues will be reduced for everyone once the final game is out with the day 1 drivers/patch.

So im guessing my i5-4690 wont be able to run this since it's under the min. requirement?

It's running fine for me minus the cpu load issue which gives occasional slowdown. Absolutely playable with a 970. Avg fps above 60 on high/ultra @1080 dx11

Can someone tell me how to interpret the ingame perf graph?

It shows frametimes, correct? So if CPU is constantly higher than GPU does that mean I'm CPU bound?

Rig is an MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro gaming laptop. Specs:

- i7-6700HQ @ 2.6Ghz
- GTX 1060 6GB
- 16GB DDR4 @ 2600Mhz
- 512GB m.2 SSD

Settings are all High, I did step Texture Filtering to Ultra, Ambient Occlusion is set to HBAO and Anti-Aliasing is set to TAA. I have enabled vsync as I can't stand screen tearing, so fps can't exceed 60fps. 1080p resolution.

I'm getting 60fps locked hard in almost every scenario right now. I've played ~4 levels of campaign between 01 (the tank crew campaign) and 05 (the Lawrence of Arabia campaign) and not seen a single drop in campaign scenarios.

I've played 3 Operations matches, and sadly I forget the name of the maps but I was on a map that's based in the French countryside -- I loaded into a hilltop area that was basically charred trenches and ruined, burned-out buildings. Eventually, the map progressed down the hill and into a ruined city. I have only ever seen my framerate drop in this transitional area, when I progressed down the hillside into the city, framerates dropped to low 50's, and due to vsync being enabled, my controls got a bit sluggish. Luckily, the run down was only about 20 seconds and I didn't encounter another player, and once I reached the bottom of the hill and began moving through the city streets, framerate returned to 60. I'm just thinking the large draw distance of the scene and the engine's attempts to throw lighting and shadows around so much geometry was the cause. I also wonder if it was my CPU that wasn't able to keep up there, with it's lower mobile clock speeds.

But outside of that, all other sections of the Operations maps I've played have been silky smooth as well, and I literally have not encountered any drops below 60fps outside of that one specific instance. Very pleased.

And this is all before nVidia has even released a game ready driver, too. I don't imagine I'l see much improvement myself (I'm still guessing my slower CPU clock is the blame for the drop) but if it does enhance the experience to a flat-out 60fps, I'd find that to be quite amazing.

Cool, because I plan to get this on PC later.

Finally got to testing it, specs 1st
I7 6700k oc'd to 4.8
Gtx 1080 oc'd +215 and +550
3440*1440 21:9. Everything on Ultra

Team death match: mostly 90 fps And caps round 100 ish
CPU never went over 71 or so percent

Conquest. Same but mostly 80's to 90's capping at 100ish
CPU usage jumped up hovered around 80s tapped the 90 range a couple of times

Pretty much runs smooth as hell on my setup. No dips or stuttering, loving this. Was surprised conquest ran so well

I'm a bit worried now with my i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz and my 8GB RAM. I've got a 980ti, so I'm all good on the GPU front, but given that I'm gaming at 1440p resolution, this is the first time I'm faced with a need to upgrade my CPU or RAM.

The memory isn't so much of a problem, but obviously upgrading the CPU is a bit of an expense.

Anyone with a similar config that can tell me how it's going? At the moment, I'm holding off on grabbing the game until I have more of a concrete idea of what my performance is going to be like, especially at 1440p.

This is great, very nice considering the res and settings. Yeah I can't wait to try this out.

I can't start the game anymore. 'Battlefield 1 has stopped working'.

Was running the game in DX11.

Was posted earlier in the thread; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es8qmr_o-SY Some legitimacy to video is given by friend who has 8GB and he has complained about having performance issues.

Interesting, thanks! He has pretty slow ram, though; I have 2400 MT/s DDR4 ram, I wonder how much of a difference this makes. Regardless, I think I should have fine performance (6600K @ 4.4, OC'd 980Ti at 1440P), but maybe I should just buy another set of 2x4gb ram and be done with it.

I have;
6600K @ 4.2
16GB
980Ti

FPS hovers around 90FPS when 1080p and maxed out settings. Like I mentioned game uses ~5-6GB of RAM in 64p CQ. Bigger issue is CPU utilization that hovers between 90% and 100% at any given time or moment in the game.

Interesting, this game sure eats up CPUs. Luckily all I care about is maintaining 60 or above, so I think I should be ok maxing this out.

It's the GetDeviceRemovedReason crash for my 680.

I'm getting this constantly too on my 770. Can't play for more than 5 minutes or so before it happens, I've tried a few "fixes" and none seem to work.
