Battlefield 1 PC Performance Thread

You're fine as is then. I only asked about pre-rendered frames, because lower values can actually hurt performance if your CPU is already having a hard time. Core parking is a one time thing done to your power plan. It can help smooth clock frequency transitions in systems with adaptive power usage, and keep all your cores "awake" at all times, but isn't dire either. As for memory speed, I asked because increasing RAM speed, timings, and voltage can have a direct result on how far a CPU OC clock can be pushed, and can actually increase CPU temps, as well as reduce OC stability. But, again, if you're stock, you're fine.

It must be the game reacting that way with certain configurations. Here's to hoping they fix it soon.

Was able to confirm. Sinai put my CPU to 100% atm.

Try forcing 16x High Quality AF through the control panel or Nvidia Inspector.

It sounds like you're having the same issue I'm having?

I tried forcing 16x AF in the nVidia control panel and that had no effect.

Did you set "Texture filtering - Quality" to "High quality"? Otherwise, I'm at a loss.
Seems my AF setting wasn't saved when I set it before, forcing it did the trick. No more smearing. It was set to Application-controlled.

game defaulted to ultra. dropped the preset down to high and im usually sitting right around 100fps @ 1440p dx11

6600k @ 4ghz
gtx 1070
16gb ddr4 3000

edit: and why does my perfoverlay.drawfps 1 keep disappearing? even within the same game/round?

Oh well. It's seems to vary server to server for me. I had 90%+ GPU usage again during my latest conquest match on Empire's Edge. And even though it was running 80-100 fps with low ping, it felt sluggish and slightly stuttery. Weird, because most of my matches thus far have been really smooth with much lower CPU usage.

Nice.

So I'm playing in 1080p on my GTX 1080.

Game defaults to everything maxed out in Ultra.

If I play in DX11 I get mostly around 60fps, sometimes a bit higher but also it often drops in the low 50s/high 40s so maybe I need to lower something.

If I play in DX12 I get overall higher FPS but the game is actually unplayable and hitches and slowdowns a lot.

Also... Anybody knows how to turn off the feature that dynamically changes the keyboard LEDs to different color depending on your health? I'm using a Logitech G510s. Not finding any options in game and normally those things are controlled through a plugin that I can turn off in the Logitech software but I'm not actually seeing a BF1 plugin.

Your FPS seems awfully low for that card and resolution. What CPU and memory?

To be fair, I haven't rebooted in a couple of days and I'm watching a Giantbomb stream on the other window so probably doesn'T help.

Does DX12 adds anything significant?

What RAM speed? This is important.

Try reboot and have nothing running except the game and see FPS.

DX12 only benefits AMD cards atm.

It's DDR3, not sure about the actual speed and yeah I'll reboot as soon as my stream is over to see if that makes a difference.

Having stream open on 2nd monitor could be bigger issue than few day long uptime, BF1 is very CPU hungry. I get ~90FPS with i5 6600K @ 4.2, 16GB and 980Ti when everything maxed out and 1080p @ 130% scale. Even when I have medium quality Twitch stream open on 2nd monitor.

DX12 doesn't add anything graphical.

Other processes consuming CPU can definitely impact FPS. I'm on a hex core and I have a local plex server running, and inadvertently was transcoding some video that probably cut my FPS in half.

Hahaha.... Looking at the Task Manager... My CPU was running at 40% with the GiantBomb player streaming... Dropped down to 4% when I closed the tab... Let's see how the game is running now.

Game runs great for me in my opinion.

Getting between 40-55fps at 4K all Ultra settings w/ AA turned off. Better then I thought I would get trying to run at 4k.

Duuude I can't believe you didn't realize how much of a performance hog that GB player is. I run a 970 and running a GB player stream on my second monitor will drastically ruin my framerates.

Check your eventviewer, sounds like your driver is crashing but doesn't recover automatically.

Yeah this is what is happening. Newest drivers didn't fix it. I have no idea what to do. I even reformatted and upgraded to Windows 10, that didn't help either. I didn't have this with the beta nor did it occur during my 10 hour trial of the game the week before the game came out. Game runs flawlessly otherwise.

Yeah and I also found how to disable the LED thing on the keyboard so it's all good now.

I think I'll go give the campaign a try now.

Do you have a Logitech keyboard? Because Logitech mouse is doing the color shifting stuff in game, weirdly only this game and Mafia III have I noticed it in.

Yeah a Logitech G510s. I was getting it in BF1 and GTA5

I unchecked a box in the Logitech Gaming Software's settings about "Letting games control the lights".

So for whatever reason the new Nvidia drivers seem to make DX12 mode functional. At least on my i7-860/GTX 970/8GB RAM system. Before, on the 372.90 set, DX12 mode seemed to cost a few frames and, more noticeably, it introduced a bunch of stutter. After switching to the new 375.57 set I played for over two hours without stutter, and pretty much locked at 60 FPS at 1080p with the High preset. Only noticed some dips on St. Quentin. And with my framerate capped (just using 'gametime.maxvariable fps 60' in a user.cfg), my CPU utilization seemed to mostly be in the 50-70% range just eyeballing task manager.

Will try going back to DX11 mode tomorrow for contrast.

Poor utilization, poor scaling, negative scaling, microstutter? I haven't launched the game yet but I'm curious. BF4 had great SLI support.

Poor utilisation/scaling for me with 980 Ti's. Both GPU's utilisation jumps around from high 90's to 60's in terms of usage %. Then sometimes both cards are stuck at like ~75% as well.

I tried a few different settings in NV Inspector but no dice. The SLI profile is the same one as used by Battlefront and Battlefield 4 so I guess we have to wait for a patch/driver hotfix or something.

I was having the same issue. Forcing 16X through the nvidia control panel fixed it for me as well. Game looks gorgeous now, thanks!

I have to say I'm impressed with the performance given my rig. 50-60 fps with occasional dips, more than playable. All ultra except textures high and high FXAA. 1440p.

This is like the first PC game in awhile where I just let it do its thing and I've had zero problems with the way it looks and runs. The only thing I adjusted was upping the refresh to 144hz.

You sure that clock speed is correct?

Ah, I meant 3.5ghz.

This game is unplayable. The new Nvidia drivers have made it worse. It's full locking up for 5 seconds every minute or two now. I even turned everything down to medium. On my PC I should be EASILY able to run it on high, maybe even ultra. What the fuck? :(

You have to give more details about your setup, did you post your full specs on another page?

EDIT: I see you did post on the last page, I have a newer CPU the i7-6700k but the same amount of RAM and Video Card and just did a clean install of the drivers released yesterday..

Are you running off a HDD, SSD or SSHD? I have yet to see any sort of stutter or lock up in the 2 hours I've played (1080p @ 144hz averaging over 90FPS on High settings full screen), running on a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, Windows 10 x64

Is it possible you are running into some sort of overheating issue? Perhaps your CPU is locking up at 100% usage? Anything else running in the background? I just have Discord and Origin up while playing.

Installed on an SSD too.

Nothing else running. My PC was built to be very cool, it never overheats. I even turned everything down to medium and still get the hard lock ups for several seconds. That's ridiculous. I should be able to play it at Ultra or at LEAST high easily. I don't know what causing the freezing.

EDIT: Maybe try a repair of the install? Depending on when you downloaded the game something may have gotten jacked up with all the DDOS attacks today? Either that or the game isn't utilizing your CPU correctly, hard to troubleshoot without seeing :(

I did add the game to my Nvidia's Manage 3D Settings page and set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum performance but no other changes besides setting the in game settings to High and turning down motion blur to like 25%

Monitoring your temps at all to see if any sort of throttling is going on?

What program do you recommend for monitoring temps and useage for cpu? I have one for GPU but I'll try CPU.

Try running it in dx12 mode, that seemed to eliminate most of the hitches for me.

I'd go with Real Temp, HWmonitor or Speedfan

HWmonitor showed the temp at about 43c. Most times I checked it it was reading about 50% cpu useage as well.

I monitored my GPU and kept the log. You can literally see where it locks up.

I have the exact same setup as you, but I'm getting a pretty really solid 60 with everything set to ultra and using 110% resolution scale. Very strange. In the Nvidia CP, is your 3D management thing set to max performance?

My mobo has a habit of automatically turning on the boost on my CPU, maybe yours isn't doing that?

edit: my god, finally I see someone with the same shit as me. In your last post I see that the core clock on your GPU is hovering under 1000. It should actually be boosting to like ~1300 depending on your manufacturer and model. The speeds it's running at are under even the base clocks. It doesn't seem to be affecting performance for me, so it might not either for you, but it's strange nonetheless that this is how the game works.

Why would the mobo only do it for this game though? If it was all of them I could understand but the fact it's only this game is really strange.

My 3D management is set to "let the application decide" though it looks like it's on max quality by default but it's always on that. Should I try lowering it?

Could someone help me? I'm having constant (capped) 60fps in most cases with everything on ultra and TAA @1080p. But fps drop below 50 at times for like a second just to rise up again to 60. I don't know why. Had some drops out of nowhere in Fallout 4, too, but not that big. More like 3-6, but BF1 is different. Sometimes they go down to 40 and back to 60.

I would try setting it at preferring max performance. Don't change quality settings. So: use the advanced 3d image settings, go to manage 3d settings, program settings, add a bf1 profile if it's not there, then under power management set to prefer max performance. Certain games seem to respond to this.

I have everything set on high except textures on ultra. Getting 65-130fps.

What setting should i lower if i want to get a more stable 100+ framerate without losing too much video quality?

I run everything maxed out and get between 70-90fps according to rtss...

Why does rtss display the game running higher than my monitor can display? I am using fast sync in the Nvidia control panel.

Run Display Driver Uninstaller and reinstall driver. If that doesn't work, try downclocking your GPU by -200 both memory and core using MSI Afterburner. If the problem is easy to reproduce, it should tell you pretty quickly if it's your hardware or not.

I have a high end machine (GTX 1080), but I'm running this at 1440p ultra everything (no AA), 120% scaling, and -1.000 LOD bias (for some sharper textures) and the game usually sits between 90 - 120 fps. Insane.

Do wish DICE would provide some extra graphical wiggle room for people like me. The water shader is nice but super cheap and reacts very poorly to camera motion. Give the option to tighten that shit!

Mainly surprised at my framerates as Battlefront isn't near as well performing. Likely because it looks better. But still. The -1.000 almost always hits performance hard, and here I'm still soaring about 90fps most of the time.
