Battlefield 2042 | Open Beta | Early Access 6-7 Oct | General Availability 8-9 Oct

Game is straight incredible despite the annoying bugs. Best gunplay since pubg (it sits between cod and pubg for style) and hella smooth movement. Very "cinematic" for a multiplayer shooter (feels kinda weird saying that).

Don't understand the peeps saying they can't find the fun. Shit is jam packed with everything from mindless chaos to thoughtful tactics. Love it.

Cant wait for hazard zone, aka escape from tarkov/hunt the showdown mode.

At first I was disappointed with the visuals but after seeing one of those massive hurricane/tornados I was genuinely blown away. That was a rare "next gen moment". The amount of dynamism happening with lightning, rain, debris, trees reacting and blowing in the wind during this massive battle with a very convincing looking tornado is something I've never seen before. Wow.

My concerns though are that the maps are just too big (they say this is a medium sized map) and the class system being bad for balance. Hopefully those concerns turn out to not be a big deal.

And also the visual glitchiness and audio problems.

They purposely left out extra graphics settings in the PC version to hide the parity difference prior to release, right?

Or is ray tracing not supported?

Nvidia sponsored game and this is how they are marketing it

"Own the Battlefield with the lowest latency of NVIDIA Reflex and the performance-accelerating NVIDIA DLSS for the definitive Battlefield 2042 experience."

There is no raytracing.

Have people who played this enjoyed battlefield 3, battlefield 4? 1942, Vietnam? It's battlefield. I'm confused by the negatives.

sound design is absolutely top tier. I can properly hear footsteps!

I haven't played it myself, but I was watching Doc's stream of this yesterday and I have to say I somewhat agree with him; It looked like a level-up session with little sense of purpose. I guess this game needs a BR. I love how it looks, and the dynamic weather thingies was dope.

Played some last night. I think the game hs potential. I really like being able to switch attachments on the fly. Lots of glitches though. Can see them struggling to fix them all for launch. Hopefully it won't be as bad a launch as battlefield 4 was.

Played on the Series X and the Series S a few hours each. Either console was an enjoyable experience to me. I was happy to see that the Series S felt like it was running at or close to 60fps and felt no different from playing on my X other than the X was clearly the better looking between the two by far but this didn't really detract from my enjoyment of playing the game on the S.

I didn't really feel like the size of the map was that big of a deal since the action was pretty consistent no matter where I went and if I had to push through a large open area odds are I'll probably die soon enough anyway and switch my kit over on the fly to something a bit more appropriate for the situation. I felt that utilizing multiple kits and classes was way more useful this time around than in previous battlefield games and gave me plenty of opportunity to switch up my play style, although if I wanted, I could totally use the same kit and class the entire time.

As for the bugs, there was plenty of them but I suspect that a majority of them shouldn't be a problem come launch time and typically for beta's like these there are always bound to be some around and shouldn't be something to get bent out of shape over.

Last few things I really enjoyed was the giant tornado that came creeping slowly across the map sucking everything up into it including players and vehicles. I can't wait for these crazy disasters to happen randomly while playing the game. During my play time I had only encountered one so it doesn't seem like it happens all that often and weather can vary from game to game as well. One other chef kiss moment that I had was a giant space rocket taking off right next to me and one of the more massive structures of the map getting pancaked which oddly enough only happened once that I noticed but it was bombastic.

I like this Battlefield and look forward to more as well as playing the PS5 version later on in the week so I can see how the game utilizes dual sense features on the controller.

This time played with mates last evening and I'm conflicted.

It's such a joy to play, some actions we had were typical battlefield - running through tight dark tunnel with other 15 people just to crash with opposite team, as a result a fucking mass butchery - loved it!
On the other hand it can be bugged at time, once spent half match with ps1 ground textures, but then again I want to play it and dont want a delay.

1st world problem boys and girls!

Interesting to read the polarizing impressions on this game.
Do all of you have it pre-ordered or is there another way to get an early key?

Even though I knew I didn't have early access I tried to enter the game last night and it wouldn't do anything when I clicked the button at the start screen. Even to change my profile. Did anybody else have that result? I'm hoping that's just because I don't have early access and it's not a bug

Decided to try a game of full drone play and even though lighting up the enemy a lot last night I got very few assists

Not sure its working properly or only get assists within your squad just haven't looked into how the drone actually works but sure seems like it could be useful

look at someone who is actually capable of playing battlefield like battlefield, before saying that's not fun

Call me crazy but I've never got the appeal of large maps or a player count higher than 16. All it means is I spend more time running to the hot spots.

To be honest, battlefield is only truly fun when you are in a squad of mates, all communicating, and playing the objectives correctly.

Random squads are generally shite.

So I'll reserve true judgement until I squad up properly.

This couldn't be more irrelevant when my opinion is based off personal experience of teammates flying helicopters into walls

Cheers

i suppose you could say that about any group based multiplayer game but i've more than enjoyed multiplayer games with random players. played a shit load of BF2,3,4 that way and will do the same for 2042.

I'm just not a fan of the big maps, the intensity of battles is not present. I think I will be playing old maps or smaller maps

im really confused by some of the comments as well. i feels just like bf3/4. the UI isnt great and its bug ridden but its BF through and through. ngl i had trouble figuring out where capture points and things were

my only other gripe is the helicopter controls. i need legacy control options.

gunplay feels great, vehicles feel great, ttk seems good, the map is gorgeous, and the on the fly loadout mechanic was very useful. I really cant wait to see Hazard Zone and hopefully some sort of Frontlines mode

The thing is for what it's doing it looks damn good too.

I agree on an unfinished game playing unfinished.

But the weather events are genuine awe moments.

I love the size and activity in the map. It feels as full as ever despite being huge.

Mackay's grapple ability is so much fun to use. Going from rooftop to rooftop, climbing towers, flanking, and more and it's super easy to learn.

Only specialist I haven't tried is Casper, but his drone seems fun with the C5 and all.

Put a good 6 hours into the beta last night. Played half solo and the other half with a full squad. I am really enjoying the game. As a big Battlefield mark I feel like it will bring me back to the BF3 and launch 4 hype.

One thing I wish however, atleast for this map is that I wish the tall building (B) could be destroyed like on Seige.

Because "only in Battlefield" lol

I had a great time playing last night. Some odd bugs here and there..but they seem way less than the BF4 'beta'. Over all I am excited for the final product.
I had fun with it on pc. Some foors fidnt worj but whej. Running into them ousbing e i could see theough the doors temporarily eveb when theybwouldbt open lol

No tanks on roofs tho.

Also the m5a3 seemed to have zero recoil lol

You okay?

As for the M5A3, I do agree that it needs more recoil, but as it's basically the starting gun for assault rifles, I'm guessing that's why it doesn't have much.

This game will be infinitely better when playing with a squad that actually communicates/works together--not a shocker because that's always been the case with BF but especially this game due to the size of the maps.

When I got on last night, first tried it on the X1X and it was running horribly, seemed to be stuttering constantly but this is the beta so that's hopefully something they get fixed. When I played on XSX it was running better but still having stuff not load in.

I'm interested enough to probably go ahead and order--usually buy all the mainline BF games but have some reservations.

So is there no way to bring up the map while in game cause it pisses me off to no end not being able to see the whole map? And my weapon loadout always restart after every death which caused me to get shot a decent amount of times trying to attach them again.

But other than that and some bugs others mentioned, this game is a sigh of relief for me between the current choices of fps games.

Played the game max settings without the latest drivers... which apparently came out in prep for this beta(will probably will download and try when I get home tonight). My initial run was a little choppy but it settled down after a few minutes(maybe loading assets since I put it on my hdd and not ssd). However, it was smooth at 78-110fps. Only downside to ultra seemed to be that particles obscured my vision more than any other preset. My experience was very positive. The game generally looks better than BF5 while managing to pull off way more than it. The interiors of buildings were a little spartan but the buildings themselves ended up looking nice as well as all of the things the devs clearly wanted you to look at. Gunplay felt like a step up from BF5 too. However gun balance is definitely all over the place. Tried a few guns out and nothing seemed to come close to the m5a3. I would wipe the floor with that gun. I suck at sniping so I stay away from it.
Didn't spend too much time in vehicles. Except the driving felt so rough and sluggish compared to previous titles. Also tank gunner(f2 on keeb) was very buggy and I imagine vomit for some inducing to be a part of. Had a crash and my friends all had crashes on a variety of system types. Generally a very positive experience. Felt like chaos but a fun version of it. Even when you lose, it felt fun. The only time I got frustrated is when my friends kept spawning on top of the helipad building and requesting reinforcements and we would get killed over and over again by choppers

Oh things that need improvement. M for map needs to be added. Medic distance from downed player(feature in previous BF games). Better descriptions of certain functionalities(better for the initial experience). Indication on the respawn where I can immediately identify which teammate is whichever green marker. My workaround last night was to just select the name on the bottom left of the person I wanted to spawn on. Once again, just another thing that is in BF5 and small to add but can go a long way. I am sure there are more I can think of

They must not have DLSS included as I haven't seen it anywhere in options. I did find and turn on Nvidia Reflex though.

I have played them all and I disliked them all. BF has never been as big as COD because those entries were too open and only had a couple of maps like Metro where you could just go in and kill some people without having to run a mile every time.

Whats frustrating is that they fixed that issue with BF1. Operations mode kept the action in front of you. The weapons weren't all long range sniper rifles with fancy scopes and ARs and LMGs simply couldnt take you down from range like they could in modern BF games. There were no choppers so the best the pilots could do was drop bombs or do strafing runs. Here, the choppers just hover over an objective and get easy kills.

And thats the biggest problem I have with these modern setting BF games, it's far too easy to die and you dont get to see much action even if you choose to spawn on bases under attack. The game supposedly had 128 players but it feels like a 12 vs 12 game. I never saw more than 24 players in a gun fight. In BF1, even the 40 player Operations felt like 120 players because all the action was focused on one part of the map.

I still enjoyed the demo, but the CoD crowd DICE captured with BF1 has left them because they have deserted what attracted the cod fanbase in the first place. Quick infantry on infantry action. I really dont understand why modes like Operations are taken out. Even Rush isnt in this game.

hmm its weird, maybe the 64v64 is not gonna be the 'goto' game mode for me, too much empty space

i am interested in playing on the 32v32 versions of maps tbh. that is one great thing about it, full game should have alot of options to make the game as you want it

Even Rush isnt in this game.
Rush wouldn't even work on this scale and really hasn't been good since BC2 and BF3. The more players made it a cluster of people rushing to arm and disarm the single points at each location. That being said they could offer smaller Rush modes that could work well. Hopefully with Portal you can play Rush like on Valparaiso.

Breakthrough is essentially the same thing with a better objective balance for more players and less balancing issues.

This is completely valid. not every game is for everyone.

I started as Battlefield player with 1942 and CoD never appealed to me as much. I always enjoyed the large scale maps and the ability to see some crazy shit happen with vehicles etc. If I just wanted infantry combat I would blast a CoD game.

This feels like battlefield to me, and I'm happy.

Will be a great accompaniment to Halo.
