Battlefield 3. It's been over a year. Did it live up to EA's hype?

Yeah it delivered, I still like it. But I feel BC2 had better map layouts and I feel that a lot of CoD players must be around as the level of teamplay in FFA games is generally lower than it was in BC2. I don't get healed or restocked as often in this game.

The problem with BF3 console is that its more of a PC game while BC series was specifically made for consoles. For this reason I don't enjoy conquest as much in BF3, as a lot of the maps feel out of sync with the player count.

I have mixed feelings. The game's riddled with questionable design choices that damage the core game mechanics, which I enjoy. The constant vehicle/weapon nerfing (especially with choppers), suppression blurring, the obnoxious desaturation when hit, flashlights practically blinding your character in daylight, etc., all seem like little things, but add up over time.

Also, the majority of the original maps are terrible; I have no clue what DICE was attempting with some of them. Thankfully, the DLC has largely been great, though I'm hesitant to say they "redeem" it when you have to pay extra for them.

And finally, the return of 64 player maps was welcome but also frustrating, because many of them weren't really well-suited for such a high player count. You have to figure out yourself which ones work better than others.

I think I enjoyed BC2 a lot more when I really think about it.

I did expect BF3 to be a game that I'd be playing on a regular basis for a rather long time and in that respect, it is a major disappointment. It looks great and I'm always having a blast playing it, but I think it's somehow waaaaay too fast.
I basically only play it when there's new DLC.

I'm glad DayZ got me hooked on Arma 2 (not saying that Battlefield should be that slow though). I quite enjoyed the BF3 hype, but I ended put putting way more time into Arma.

PS3 player here. I have not played previous BFs so this is the only one I had the experience with. Its one of the rarest game I have put so many hours. One of best MP FPS experience I have ever had. No game can be perfect so obviously it has its flaws but the game is damn fun specially playing in a squad with friends. The one downside is 24 player count. Some maps are too big for that.

SP obviously sucks as usual for the shooter. I wonder when we would ever get a meaningful SP experience in these games.

Can't wait for BF4 on the next gen systems with at least 64 player count and even better destruction modeling and the next gen graphics.
