Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

I don't think campers on top of buildings will be a problem, at least if you're on a worth while team. From my experience with the beta, if enemies are on top of the building camping they will become the center of attention from snipers on the ground and attack helicopters. When I got a chance to try the attack chopper, I made a point to scan the buildings.

Curious observation with this beta. 2 friends and myself are running very similar hardware. Two of us are getting frame stuttering, one is not. Both of us getting the stuttering are on win7. The one not is on win8. Anyone see any comparisons here dealing with the two OS? I mean, they recommend 8.

Encountered a really odd issue today after updating to the latest geforce drivers. Everytime I doubleclicked to spawn on a teammate the screen would change to windowed mode.

Made this earlier, It's nothing amazing. I love doing this to all those snipers though.

Oh maybe its a DX11 vs 11.1(2) thing.

Is the web "battlescreen" tanking in-game performance normal atm? With it open in firefox my frame rate drops for ~60 to ~20. It's fine to have it up on my tablet but it'd be nice to have it bigger

So the open beta for PC should roll out right now, correct?

Edit: So I think I was wrong, should be 2 hours from now?

A lot of people on the PC will be disappointed with the performance... Can't wait to see what the official forums will look like in a few hours

Even though I have a low-end system, I could still run BF3 at medium at a near-constant 60fps. I can't even get a constant 30fps in this demo at lowest settings.

AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE (3.4ghz, no OC)
Radeon HD 6870 1gb (no OC)
8gb 1600 RAM
1600x900 display

I'm using the beta drivers too. No difference from 13.9.
Goddamn it, I was about to ask but you answered my fears. I have the same specs except at 1080p so things would probably be worse.

Guess I will be upgrading for this game. Does anyone know what performance is like with a 4670k + 7870?

I'm only experiencing a minor drop in the beta's performance vs. identical settings in BF3 (10-20% decrease in the intense moments when it dips). I find this acceptable for a beta -- updates to the game and driver improvements will probably mean performance that eventually exceed BF3 for me.

My config:
3770K @ 4.6 Ghz
GTX 670 @ 1200 Mhz core clock (running latest beta drivers)
16GB DDR3 @ 1866 Mhz
Win8 x64

In both BF3 and the beta I run at 2560x1440 on ultra settings, except with antialiasing turned off. A number of people complaining of dramatically decreased performance appear to have CPU's that are a tad on the weak side compared to the GPU they're running. Perhaps BF4 is working CPU's harder than its predecessor, and so some people are running into issues while those like me who are almost certainly still GPU-capped are seeing little difference?

I actually think you'll be fine with that setup on high settings. I'd wait on an upgrade until you're sure considering that November/December typically sees lots of great deals on computer hardware.

I guess I will stay hopeful then, will there be a need to upgrade from a 4670k in the foreseeable future though? CPU will be my focus when I do upgrade, the 7870 will just be an interim measure until I get a better GPU next year.

On another note, have any Australians been able to find populated matches in the beta so far?

is beta down now? when I click to enter beta I battlelog opens to the pre-order bf4 page. i've been playing the beta since the 1st.

Thought I should post my system rig for anyone curious:

Core i7-something. One of the top-end one.
GTX 680 running on the latest beta drivers.
4GB RAM
Game running on a Velociraptor.

No frame drops, it's butter smooth on full Ultra. Game looks amazing. However, i get sizable amount of stutter. I am guessing dropping the texture quality to normal should fix it (like with BS:Infinite).

Open Beta (October 4th):
PC: 2:00AM PDT
Xbox 360: 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM PDT
PlayStation 3 (Europe): 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM PDT
PlayStation 3 (US): 11:00 AM PDT
Note, release times for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are controlled by Microsoft and Sony, respectively. The beta will be available within the range or times above, per console.

Hopefully it is really only pushed back an hour.

Why does it look and run like utter crap then?

Don't shoot the messenger, although there are plenty of images of the "all graphics settings aren't final, tuned and optimised" Tweet in this very thread too.

Ultra settings isn't Ultra, for example. It's locked to "high" even if it says ultra in the menu - similar to the BF3 alpha/beta.
