Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

Rooftops_zps2f6966cf.png

Holy rad. This screenshot looks amazing! Hate campers up there after C falls though :( The map's flow is so ruined after that skyscraper topples.

So I did that proxy trick to order from Mexico... According to most people the worst that will happen is I will, blocked from ordering from origin again....

Feel bad, but getting the base game and premium for £43 was too good to turn down

Really? Didn't dig any of the others?

I wasn't a big fan of BF3. You'd think I wouldn't like BF4 either, since the gameplay is pretty similar. But I've been hooked on every Battlefield game prior to that. 1942, BF2, and BC2 properly consumed my life.
Yep, those were awesome BF games.

I'm away from my PC and I really don't want to suffer through the current gen version, so I'll be waiting until the next gen versions.

Who's lined up to do the OT?

I also like how we've seen NOTHING of the SP, though it'll probably make for a good launch trailer.

I've enjoyed Obliteration but most games have been either a complete lockdown 3-O or a complete stalemate with one side managing to land a bomb and then end via timeout.

I hope they reconsider the time you have to disarm the bomb. It's ridiculously short. Almost impossible to recover from an armed objective if your team isn't already on the bomb when it's triggered...

I am seriously suffering through BF4 beta withdrawal... Not even BF3 interests me. Maybe I'll play GTA V again...

Yeah, but I won't go back to bf3 after playing 4. 4 is just right, they captured the gameplay just right. I will admit I'm burnt out on that map and learned to hate it just from the roof campers ruining the game.

When can we start preloading on origin? :)

I am excited for the final release, can't wait to play with all the different accessories and class items. The limited scope of beta had me bored the last few days. Also I thought SoS was a pretty cool map, but for sure not quite fun enough to spend weeks playing. My biggest issue is that I don't think I will have anyone to squad up with. I dream of a recon/engineer combo that destroys all vehicles with ease, but none of my friends are picking the game up. Oh well.

I spot bitches like it's my job. Recon players like myself would have a better rep if the majority quit camping and actually did something -_-

Ended up putting in just over 20 hours into this. Enjoyed it quite a lot overall. Random quick impressions/thoughts with poor formatting:

The map was fantastic, providing lots of cool arenas, and each mode was lots of fun on it. The gunplay's great, and I really like wide range of cross-class stuff that's going to be available. Loved popping roof campers with the XM25 and DMRs, and the boosted rocket speed is quite welcome. The UI is what it should've been in BF3, what with being able to click on the map for spawn points, and the minimap in general is far more readable. The sound continues to be fantastic of course, and after a couple patches, performance is fine on high on my aging PC.

For negatives, the netcode seemed like it's back to BF3 beta levels of jank. The delay on corner deaths wasn't as extreme, but probably a quarter of my deaths felt like a one-shot ordeals. Less annoying than the "I died after being behind cover for 2-3 seconds" nonsense, but still dumb. The UI is better, but there's still weirdness -- why is the text in the menu blurry? There's a weird quirk with the helo controls as well in that your controls lock up if you approach a 90° roll.

Finally, while all the weapons seemed good or at least decent, the Ultimax made me scratch my head. It's perfectly serviceable, but I don't know why you'd use it if you had another option. It doesn't provide the volume of fire of a belt-fed LMG, and it's not as accurate or maneuverable as a carbine. I don't know what role it's supposed to fill other than the "grind through this to get something better" niche.

Anyway, yeah, it's not without it's flaws, but it seems like a great game overall. Gonna be a long two weeks.

Are you from Mexico or are you from other country?

I'm Mexican, and I'm really amazed on the prices Origin is giving to us. And is for many games. And I bought the base game + premium too. (n_n)

Why did you have to put that depressing song for the first half. I want to see helicopters getting blown up and shit not be reminded of a breakup lol but otherwise good vid. I like your rpg shots.

Hahaha. As with others that have commented, I absolutely love both those songs. Adventure Club are great though, I've used there songs on a number of youtube videos, as they give you permission as long as they get credit. And they are awesome.

Sorry about that break-up though. :)

And thanks guys.

Well, Dice just published some changes based on feedback.

Right now I can't see the site, but it seems great.

Things like less rpm on AK12 on burst, or less autoaim on automatic guns.

The part it doesn't seem clear is when it says that RPG and Smaws are no longer locked with laser designator, but later it says that laser desginated RPGs do a 90% damage maximum .

Ah, and it says there will be more controller options.

They are referring to launchers that will still be able to lock-on (Javelin etc...) will not 1 hit kill air vehicles but instead disable.

Locking Weapon Changes
-RPG7 and SMAW can no longer lock on to Laser Designated Targets. It was inauthentic and not balanced.

-Fixed some projectiles not warning vehicles when they were fired on a Laser Designated target. Reduced the lock on distance for RPGs, SMAW, and MBT LAW missiles to 350m from 500m. This gives the IGLA the clear long range AA role for soldiers, and keeps the team play element of Laser Designation.

In the first paragraph it says that RPG and SMAWS can no longer be compatible with laser designator. In the second paragraph it says that those weapons will have a limit on laser designated objectives.

I would like to see that the most damage a weapon does, less range it has on locking laser designated objectives.

This kind of gimps the Laser Designator into uselessness. On the other hand I agree making every rpg on the map homing was a problem.

not really, all the other launchers still lock-on.

From Reddit:

Edit to remind everyone about the SIX types of Rocket Launchers coming in BF4, only one of them (RPG and SMAW) will be dumb fired, the rest will have some type of guidance:
1.) Non Lock-on: RPG and SMAW: Dumb fired RPGs just like in BF3 (and every other Battlefield game ever) (and yes they could lock darts in BC2)
2.) Wire Guided that can Lock on: SRAW (AT-4): Fires instantly like an RPG, but it's a wire guided rocket the shooter can keep steering into the target. It IS capable of locking onto designated targets.
3.) Lock on weapon: Stinger and Igla - Locking rockets vs air vehicles only
4.) Lock on weapon: Javelin - Same as in BF3, but now the user must maintain the lock on the target until it is hit.
5.) Lock on weapon: MBT LAW - Like a Javelin from BF3, but fires much quicker doesn't need the shooter to maintain the lock, therefore it does less damage.
6.) Lock on weapon: Starstreak - Locks on to air and ground vehicles, with very limited ammo as it's a battle pickup.
And here's a great video from Daskro with all of them in use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC95qNH3TA0

Yes but most of those launchers are already lock-on by themselves. On the other hand it also allows vehicle wire guided / ground emplacement missiles to lock on if I'm not mistaken. Also should allow the guided tank shell to lock on air targets.

That video was very informative though, thanks. I wasn't aware of all the subtle differences between launchers.

Does that mean the RPG7-SMAW and Stinger/IGLA will no longer be side specific?

yes.

The benefit of lock-on is high damage, quicker lock-on times, and ability to target air vehicles. Still pretty useful to have someone with a pld. Its a great device just for spotting enemies.

You know what this game needs to do, load the next map WHILE on the end of game stats screen and not AFTER it. God damn, how complicated is that to do? You gotta wait like 30-40 seconds to get through the stat screen and then a long ass loading. Not smart.

Or at least show the map overview in the loading screen like in Bad Company 2.

figured this would be a good place to ask this question. I cant decide what version to get, 360 or ps3. i have 3 on the ps3 and had a pretty high rank, does anything carry over into 4 that would make it better idea to get it on the same platform?

There are two things you must consider:

1-. Where are your friends playing? If you have a clan or play with friends, go with them.

2.- Do you plan to buy it for next gen consoles? Remember that the game will carry your progression to next gen consoles, but from the same company.

I think the only thing that carries over from BF3 to 4 is some kind of veteran reward, dogtags or whatever.

I remember a lot from the time we played. Helicopters blowing up in the background was my favorite.

my favorite of all time was on Valparaiso when i had the Blackhawk in perfect position and it looked like it was flying along with all of the NPC cutscene birds.

there were lots of funny ones though, especially when AT Mines were involved, like White Pass on the dam/bridge.

PS3 version is supposed to look just a bit better than the 360 version. So since you're already comfortable playing it on the PS3, I'd say that's the obvious choice.
