Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

I am very happy with the ballistic trajectory for the engineer's standard rocket launcher. It's much nicer than BF3.

I don't know, I think it looks a lot better than BF3.

Something feels weird with the shooting mechanics though. I don't know if it's the lack of recoil or what not, but it feels more 'just hold down the trigger' than 3. I still like it though.

The shooting does seem a bit to easy.

Weapons do more damage, I kinda like that. The weapons scattered through the map is weird though. Got an auto shotty in the shopping gallery and a grenade launcher in the building rubble. I also saw a rocket launcher that seemed to track targets but I didn't try it out.

Switching to any other kit piece when wielding one of those picked up weapons seems to drop it but I didn't get to try to pick it up again as I was killed almost immediatly both times haha.

So far I'm impressed though, I like it. The sound department is top notch again.

PC version here. Tried it about 7 AM CST and every server seemed empty. I'll try it again when I get home from work. Frame rate felt under 60 even with just me running around the map by myself. Settings were a mix of high and ultra @ 1080p.

My setup:

3570K @ 4.2
3GB 7970 non GHZ (stock clocks)
8GB RAM
Win 7 64 bit
Playing on my 60" Pioneer plasma with a controller :/

So I own BF3 and had already pre-purchased BF4 on Origin, but I don't seem to have access to the B4 Beta. :( It's not in my list of All Games on Origin.

Well I figured out the xm25 and as it is in game its pretty darn useless.

In real life the xm25 allows you to lase the 25mm gun at a target then it gives you an aiming point where to aim to hit said target after it calculates for bullet drop.

After you got an aiming point you can then set the round to explode in mid air by adding 3 meters to the range.

This would be amazing for taking out snipers on roof tops, or behind cover.

Currently in game you have to use the horrible scope on the xm25 aim at a piece of cover you wish to fire above and then quickly aim up and fire and the round detonates right above the cover.

They simplified the process completely for the casuals. I hate when devs do this.

That video shows how it works in real life. A direct copy of that method would work far better than whats in the game now. So would the non flir scope.

I like some of the changes DICE made.
The tanks now have a limited amount of shell to shoot before having to "reload".
The rocket trajectory of the RPG is a lot easier to predict now.
You die wayyyyyy faster than in BF3.
No more caping a flag for 2 seconds and receiving 200 points
Damaging a vehicule gives you point

That's off the top of my head. I just wished the performances were a bit better.

Simplified for casual or balanced for gameplay?

Are you sure you can't zero the sight in a similar way to sniper scopes?

I mean, even MW3 let you set the explosion distance manually.

That said, I'm sure most people who use it will just use it like a regular grenade launcher, and how do they balance for that? Probably by making each round inflict neglible damage outside of a direct hit.

I really don't like the look of the area surrounding the building after it's collapsed. The dust layer makes everything look like it has no textures.

I think maybe you should research optimistic vs pessimistic. You've seemingly confused the two.

?? I'm saying the store is updating at the latest possible? That wouldn't make me an optimist? Or does it? I'm confused now lol. I do wish there was a set time for the US PS store update each week :(

Some other random things:
-Vehicle auto-repair seems overpowered as hell. I got a Littlebird to 11% health which caused it to go into the disabled state like in BF3 for around 3 seconds. After those 3 seconds I could fly around again normally and within 20-30 seconds the heli was at full health again without anyone repairing.
-Vehicles colliding with other vehicles is still as much of a clusterfuck as it was in BF3.
-Back button is now for Battlelog and your friends' activity. Sigh...
-Vehicle controls are a bit meh, but you can revert them back to (mostly) BF3 o it's not a huge deal.
-Instant respawn with no more black screen!
-You can change spawn location and your loadout right after you die. No more waiting 5 seconds looking at the killcam.

Movement feels... heftier?
Starting LMG seems to have little spread

At E3, one player said it seemed like there was more momentum to movements, i.e., takes a second to go from stop/walking to sprint and to stop again.

LMGs didn't seem to have much recoil from LevelCap's vids, I was hoping that was just because he knew what he was doing. Hope it's not too imbalanced.

Where should it be on the UK dash? I'm a premium member and I cant find it anywhere.

Featured or Newest. Battlelog has details on that.

Speaking of the beta:

BF4's battlelog offers a personal emblem creator... I do not think they realize the amount of penises that will be created.

I expect BF-GAF to have a penis-GAF logo hybrid in celebration to this news. Get crackin'.

One game these days will eventually simulate the difference betweeen shouldering and firing a lightweight carbine and one of these lmgs of which the ammo alone weighs more than a carbine.

The control is a bit much and i was able to use it like i would a rifle or carbine.

At least they are stepping up the suppression effect for lmgs to counteract the lack of self preservation inhibition in games.

Game runs great on ultra (i7 3930k 3.2ghz, 32GB, Titan, W8) but it really does look like BF3.5. Nevertheless I enjoyed the few rounds I played. Though I feel the vehicles are overpowered. Or maybe it's just this map and the quantity. It's like there's an APC or tank around every corner, they're totally kicking my ass. Here's hoping for more infantry heavy maps in the final game.
