Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

Has anyone had any luck getting Fraps or EVGA Precision X (Rivatuner Statistics Server) to show up in-game in BF4? It seems like DICE/EA has some kind of block on it so you don't see it in the GUI or something - or maybe it's just me? I've re-installed Precision X and everything. I've just been using the benchmarking within Fraps to get FPS and frametimes, but it would be great to see Precision X in-game so I can see if the cards in SLI are being utilized (I highly doubt it).

EDIT: A bit of Googling and it looks like the on-screen display may not work due to the fact that the BF4 beta is a 64-bit executable. Interesting. Annnnd Unwinder (creator of RivaTuner which powers the OSD on all of these apps, for the most part) - says it isn't coming soon... :( http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=381799.

There's no reason to knock it down that early except to just.... knock it down that early.

-No elevator campers (if on the "attacking" the scraper side)
-No roof-campers/attackers for B/D
-People are idiots and will go out of their way to attack that flag even on that ground while letting me drive right on by to A/B or D/E and then bleed them while they continue to stupidly spawn on C on the ground.

Major three and why I go out of my way to knock it down. Don't want me to knock it down? DICE should fix the elevator camping on that flag and B/D.

In fact that whole map while a good idea like Metro is just bananas because of people camping on the roofs to snipe and hold attacking flags. You have no idea how many times I've had to sit in a building of the "mall"/shopping area of D or sit on the glass roof of D to prevent capping and basically stay there for a good five minutes by myself with no one knowing where I am because of the INSANE capping radius that even includes roofs or the "ground" floor of B. Stay on the window structure of B? If people are on the underground floor they won't ever know you're there and you prevent them from capping and continue to bleed them.

These are good reasons to destroy it if you are not holding that spot.

I remember BC2, with all the buildings you could destroy; my own team, as defender, attacking them just for the sake of doing it. It was really frustrating. But later, as all garbage players returned to COD and we learned better positioning and strategics, we took care of those buildings the most we could, Even as attackers, we tried to gain a good position instead of destroying everything we could see.

I think not only should the building supports be repairable but also when the building falls it should reset the control point to neutral.

DICE are piss poor at handling those map events. First it was just a time / ticket based event, so you saw it every damn time. Now it's just a matter of shooting at some pillars so it happens all. the. time. If I join a map 10 minutes late, it's already covered in dust and debris.

They need to make it a lot harder, a lot more difficult so a team would actually have to dedicate resources for it to happen.

Then it would never happen- it's impossible to organised a squad let alone a team. This game needs a button to repeatedly punch people in the face to remind them they near double their points if they follow an order. So many dipshits running at a flag turning in to fodder continuing to loose tickets.

Good, I'd rather see it happen once a year so it's actually special than every fucking match. I'm already tired of the event, borderline annoyed with it.

Guys my game doesn't seems to look so colorful at all. It looks mostly gray and full of fog. This is on 770 and latest drivers. Tried both high and ultra presets

They should just eliminate C after the building goes down but I'd rather it not fall at all. It's stupid that it's the only building that can collapse and it makes the whole center of the map an annoying shithole to navigate.

The horseshoe design of the level sucks too.

Same card same result. I honestly just turned it off after all the spikes and will just play the PS4 version.

I've seen some folks comment that the settings recommended by GeForce Experience have been way too low. This is because we've had the same issues as you guys, with configs that should be fine running a low frame rates, or dropping too many frames.

If you don't mind, please submit feedback through the in-app tool, as that will scrape your system config and get the feedback directly to your testing center.

Mostly agree with the building collapse sentiment. I love the idea that engineers could repair the beams, but only if we also get a couple beams on the inside that are required for the collapse. That would make a huge difference to the collapsing problem while providing new interesting tasks for engineers (always welcome those!)

Also, if your tank is spending it's shots on building supports, then my tank is going to win our duel.

I think the horseshoe design is supposed to be rounded out by boats, but it seems like a lot of people don't use them. I've seen them sit around doing jack for large portions of matches.

The single worst thing right now, IMO, is getting snagged on little shitty bits of geo. The storefronts with blown out windows that snag you on the bottom when you run through them... the whole geo mess in the post-collapse C area... ugh. So many times I've dashed for cover around a corner only to get snagged on some invisible wall, stuck out in the open like a bullet sponge

With my 2500K@default, GTX 670, 8 GB DDR3 1600MHz and 320.43 drivers I usually play all on Ultra, without MSAA, getting ok FPS with some annoying stutter.
GeForce Experience set me all on Ultra with Effects on Medium. Getting lower FPS, due to MSAA, but less stutter. Disabling MSAA I'm getting ok FPS and less stutter.

A friend of mine has just get rid of stuttering by installing Windows 8.
I understand that you have indicated it as recomended requirement, but DICE this not authorizes you to leave players with others OS among the crap. Less performances could be understandable, but a dysfunction like stuttering is pure shame. Hope you're working to fix it for day one release.

After some extensive playtime this weekened, I must say the gameplay really shines. It took me hours to get used to the gunplay since it really is very different from BF3. The viewpoint is different as is the recoil. The fire modes seems to play a bigger role in 4. Once I adjusted though, the entire game clicked.

BF4's overall design philosophy seems to weaken almost every aspect of BF3 from the player movement to the vehicles. Tanks are much harder to use now with major drawbacks like the new tank shell reload system, slower tank shell velocity and greater arc. Players overall move slower now and crackhead bunny hopping will not work. Ammo count is drastically reduced and restocking explosive ammo wont be easy and instant. Engineers' base weapons are weak vs infantry - no longer kings of the Battlefield with the best guns and the ability to kill all vehicles. Revives have been toned down. These are all really good things. Things I hoped for post BF3. All of this amounts to a much more difficult game and one that will take that more skill to succeed.

The map itself plays more open ended than anything weve seen from Battlefield's urban maps in recent years - and harkens back to classic Battlefield maps. 64 players + commanders is going to be awesome with this core gameplay on next gen consoles.

I hope they add in a full screen map button for consoles and a "I need backup" option in the commorose. The controls need to be majorly readjusted on consoles too.

On the contrary, GeForce Experience recommended ultra settings (4x AA etc) and made the game run pretty bad for my 670. Don't know if this is due to drivers/beta code. Running the game in High works decently (some frame spikes now and then tho). I could run BF3 @ ultra fine, though.

I could play

I know this is out of the scope of GeForce Experience's current features and I know it would require a rather large set of data points to implement but a feature I would like to see is the ability to set a target frame rate (even just 30/60/120) and it recommends what it believes will be the best settings to achieve it.

I know I am part of a small minority of users that have 120Hz, 3D and surround capable setup but GeForce experience only recommends settings for single screen 60fps gaming.

Battlefield 4 beta impressions and review from SpawnFirst

LINK

So far I am pleasantly surprised by the Battlefield 4 beta and feel the full game will be an above-average FPS. Classes and vehicles feel balanced and the large maps leave for an almost excessive amount of strategic ideas. Plus destroying a skyscraper to flush out two guys or jumping off of a large building to throw C4 on a tank never gets old. Graphically, it doesn't seem much better than Battlefield 3 and there isn't anything that is ultimately new or original to the franchise. Still, I am looking forward to the insane sandbox multiplayer later this month. If DICE can put a little more polish on their game, maybe they'll come on top against Call of Duty this year.

thanks to the new patch i get a directX error and crash every 5 min.... but the game does seem the run a little smoother well till you know .... i crash

Great analysis Naked Lunch, I agree, it's feels really solid to play and I'm excited to get it on PS4 (playing on 360 right now).

Lol yeah, I haven't seen anyone bunny hoping, or even attempting to this time which is a bit strange but good nonetheless. It's all you see in BF3, level 100 commanders with the Assault kit jumping around every 2 seconds (no exaggeration).

It is because you can't fire while bunny hopping anymore. Best change in the history of FPS games. Fuck bunny hoppers.

UGH getting stuck on the map geometry like rubble and slight shifts in ground height is so fucking annoying. This needs fixed ASAP.

Near the B spawn, there's a tall building you ride an elevator to the top of. On top of that building, there is a waist high railing that you can't jump or vault over. This is why I hate the change from BC2 jumping to BF3 vaulting. It's horrible, you get stuck on stuff all the time, and it's overall less fun. I'd much rather be able to jump onto things and across things like I could in BC2. But instead, we have to tell Dice of every little rock and rail that you get stuck on trying to vault over so they can fix it.

IMMERSION!

The C tower is my jump point to parachute anywhere I want and attack a capture point from above. That's the sorta thing that separates BF from CoD.

What they need to do is fix the layout of the tower itself. I feel like they can address the elevator camping issue with some design changes. Hopefully.

Maybe if the top had one more floor down below with wides stairwells to go up and its own set of elevators. Then your squad could send a few guys there to charge the stairs while the rest pop up the top floor elevators.

I like the idea of having a floor or two below that you could choose to arrive on. Then take stairs up. That could certainly reduce the odds of being dead on arrival.

Those floors could also lead to an external balcony with ladders that go the rest of the way up. Anything to increase the number of options is good.

First PC Battlefield game for me. I wasn't really enjoying it at first when I was getting killed after I got the jump on enemies. But, with some practice I am getting better and liking this game so much more now.

I also like the slower movement and lack of bunny hoppers.

At first I didn't like the tower at C coming down. It fills the map with bland colors and dust. But, the more I played (especially if I started in the match) the more I felt like it added to the experience. I see some of the complaints, and wouldn't mind them making it significantly more difficult for the tower to fall.

Biggest fixes DICE could make to please me are smoothing out all the geometry (mostly the fallen tower rubble, and the glass doorways that are hard to jump out of), and upping the damage the pillars can take at C.

Just got this on 360 last night. It's my first time playing Battlefield and I usually play a ton of COD. Really having fun with this beta. Shooting is so much more different, with the hit detection and stuff. I'm trying to get used to it. Can't wait to see what all the other guns are like when this game releases.

PC Beta got a patch?
Change log anyone?

Did they super nerf the gatling guns on helis? Seems to take an awful lot of shits to kill a single dude.
Any chopper nerf is a welcomed nerf.
Except when it comes to their ability to survive jets.

In bf3 they were too strong in maps without jets ( thought the lack of flare on copilote since a patch ( far too late ) did made it far more balanced ), but jets really were the top of the food chain, chopper didn't stand a chance, only another jet could kill one ( if they didn't get killed by the ennemy jet before being able to take off... ).
