I was gonna make this thread but commentating on how good the city looks and how they absolutely nailed the city they based the game of (venus? forgot the exact name) and god such gorgeous locations with a impressive sense of scale.

Yes.

It sometimes momentarily dips when DEMONS THE SIZE OF SKYSCRAPERS ARE TEARING THE ENTIRE WORLD APART ON SCREEN, but I can easily forgive it for that.

Actually the first chapter in Noatun with the pool/floor of water reflects the sky had some of the worst framerate in the game for me, go figure.

What? Are we looking at the same game? They're very minimal and hardly the focus when you're kicking ass on-screen.

Might have to do with their display settings. The demo looked really jaggy for me, so I looked into fixes and changed a bunch of my tv picture settings. Now playing the full game edges are mostly clean (except for some reason during the limited animation cutscenes).

You shouldn't put words in my mouth. Sorry I think a terribly fluctuating framerate is something to note in an action game. I never said it was unplayable. I would never play skyrim on a console, so I don't get your point. Game would be far, far, far better with better performance.

I think the game is amazing. Definitely my game of the year. It still runs like ass.

My point is that skyrim or battlefield on ps3 runs like ass. (The words in your mouth was more toward the other hyperbolic comments)

Bayonetta doesn't run at 60fps, which sucks, and the framerate "fluctuates", but because its above 30fps it's still pretty responsive to your inputs.
So it runs fine, and sometimes it runs good, but it never runs like ass like the 2 previous games mentioned.
It just doesnt run perfectly like we all want, but lets not go overboard and say the game is unplayable, or runs like shit, when compared to other games ...it runs perfectly "fine".

I disagree. Bayonetta 1 and 2's art style has all the subtlety of a 12 year old who just started drawing anime. The designs are laughably overdone, the color palette is a muddled mess and the action is a clusterfuck of things they seemingly throw at random on the screen.

Stop talking shit.

Looks like someone took a piece of purple shit and smeared it on your TV

Are you serious? I strongly disagree with this!

Great, not at all aggressive way to illustrate your opinion and not get quoted because you're making it all so credible.

Very pleased with the performance, personally.

Think again. Even normal size enemies push the fps down, have you seen the digital foundry video? I am sick of linking that over and over and no one bothering to actually watch it.

GAF truly is a world of hyperbole.

People are falling for FourMyle? Lol. C'mon you guys should know better than that.

And of course it's never a Bayonetta 2 thread without ninjablade. Lol

I agree that no AA hurts the IQ but I still just really love how the game looks. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Now that I genuinely don't get. Not in a "YOU'RE CRAZY!" sorta way, buy a genuine, we're not seeing eye to eye, way.
[snip]
I really don't see how that's not clear or hard to make out

The problem isn't individual enemies. It's once you have multiple enemies, they start blending together due to the way the enemies are designed.
They have lots of lines and details plus share a generally limited colour pallete (white+gold, sometimes with a bit of red or blue).

That + Jaggies + weapon effects + low health screen filter + enemies going on fire = really frustrating to play on infinite climax mode.

Then it's a matter of different standards. The genre has gone backwards in performance since dmc and ninja gaiden. I think it runs like shit. I'm fine with it since it's the only way to play the game. Compared to the other games I play, it runs like ass.

Thing about games and frame rates, it doesn't matter to people when they are having fun playing it.

Definitely sucks they couldn't keep it stable (or reach) during battles, but staying above 30fps still made it smooth as butter to control and a blast to play.

But yeah Bayonetta2 doesnt stay at 60 fps. It's a negative. Bayonetta doesn't have AA, another negative. But that doesn't take away form the fact that the game looks good in motion AND under your control.

The game is just fun, beautiful, and has amazing gameplay and replay ability. Period. And yes, gorgeous, maybe some people need glasses. These fps and resolution talk, those do not take away from this masterpiece, you have to be really nip picky

So, are there people out there who are not going to play Bayonetta 2 due to the graphical treatment it has received?

Would like to hear from someone that feels the geometry and anti aliasing have made this game not worth buying.

Really hope that's not the case, people will be missing out on a GOTY contender

I haven't watched it, I'm too busy playing the game.

FPS dips somewhat during combat sometimes, but it's hardly impeding to the gameplay for me and it appears very short-lived overall.

This game has more going on-onscreen than most anything else on Wii U. I consider the framerate stable considering how many console games (I'm looking at you, Assassin's Creed) dip below 20 fps just by turning the player in another direction.

It is gorgeous isn't it?

Too bad I can't enjoy it because 720p and imperfect framerate..

Don't get me wrong, I love 60 fps, but I'm really glad I'm not this picky, because it would make my hobby really frustrating. I wouldn't be able to enjoy anything but PC games at max settings.

You should probably reevaluate your dietary habits if that's what your shit looks like.

Well I specifically pointed it out as purple due to it being different from the normal brown, but I guess reading comprehension is of no use when you are reaching this hard for a corny ass burn, right?

Threads like this, man. I can understand the criticisms from a technical standpoint. I'd love to see the graphics in full HD with proper AA, it would look absolutely stunning. In screenshots. As for what I've seen of Bayo2 it looks gorgeous in motion and I for one am living for the colors and all of the over-the-top goodness and creativity that is dripping of my screen with every footage I see.

Bashing on the art-style however is just rude and unnecessary. If it's not your style, then that's okay. But we don't often get a game with this unique of a look and it should be praised regardless. If you can't see the creativity in the design and inspiration, then I don't know what to say.

I also wonder if Ninjablade types 'bayonetta' in the forum search every day just to leave a negative comment in every thread possible.

As far as I've seen it looks good because of art direction rather than technical achievement.

Think again. Even normal size enemies push the fps down, have you seen the digital foundry video? I am sick of linking that over and over and no one bothering to actually watch it.

Yup, I saw that too. I personally don't mind as 30 is fine for me, and even though the framerate was all over the place, it was almost always above 30.

But I'll disagree with people saying the game has 60FPS, there's points where just walking around would drop the framerate.

Yeah.. I can't say it has that wow factor in its set pieces like God of War 3 and Ascension does.

I know P* doesn't have that sort of budget, but God of War 3 really does impress still to this day.

Dat Kronos and Poseidon fight.

Bayonetta is visually appealing in its own right. But technically, you can tell its not quite up there with the big dogs of this generation.

Then it's a matter of different standards. The genre has gone backwards in performance since dmc and ninja gaiden. I think it runs like shit. I'm fine with it since it's the only way to play the game. Compared to the other games I play, it runs like ass.

At least now your adding some context, but I would still say your over exaggerating.
Ninja Gaiden runs awesome
Bayonetta 2-U runs fine

Bayonetta on PS3 runs like ass.

:p

My jaw has dropped during the scale of the prologue and pretty much every boss fight I've played so far. That counts as incredible for me.

But hey, I still think some 360/PS3 games look great and incredible too. I don't know why it has to be a competition.

Yeah, games are more than just numbers, wish people would realize this

In my case, I actually started caring about resolution since Dolphin happened.

480p for the scales some Wii games had was criminal, seriously, now I almost can't go back and play them at their OG resolution now that I can play them in HD.

720p is very, very tolerable though. I don't even mind if there will never be emulators for PS360/Wii U, because they look great by default.

Don't get me wrong though, I love me some 1080p goodness, and I can't express how happy I will be for a stable emulator to come out, very far from this day, but if it's the only way we can enjoy it, well, so be it.

That would be unplayable for me. ;p

But anyway, I'm going to go play some more. Game is definitely amazing. Looking forward to higher difficulties.

And I 100% agree with both of you, a good, fun game can have flaws, from fps to resolution and "oh it must be 60fps or else its not worth anything" is a flawed argument. My gripe is the belief that it's 60fps stable that, somehow, a lot of people think and spout off.Simply put, someone at some point said it was 60fps no drops, it's been proven wrong with facts and yet people don't want to admit it or don't take the time to see for themselves.

I was kidding. I thought my avatar would give it away. And yeah, Bayonetta 2 is probably my GOTY.

To me, a game's 'looks' are comprised of 75% art direction and and 25% technical execution. Obviously if the technical execution is atrocious (say the framerate of the
original Perfect Dark), no amount of excellent art is going to help, but needless to say, 720p and 46-60fps are not quite 'atrocious' yet.

It's funny that even with people who seem to agree with me, the graphics discussion always has to revolve around the technical aspects.

Oh well, maybe I'll change my mind after I get a PS4, and whenever I see a game, the only thing I'll perceive are a list of specs and special effects and looking at Bayonetta 2 will make me violently vomit. As with some people here, it seems.

I've owned a 120hz monitor for a long time because I am that picky and bayonetta 2's framerate is fine. Much more stable than say, W101.

I read the whole thing but I don't see how anyone can consider the jaggies severe. I have the game paused on my 40" 1080p TV right now and while they're there--severe? Really?

Jaggies are gonna be a problem with any game without any AA.

Plus part of the problem is that many next-gen games have got great IQ. so jumping back to a 720p game without AA is gonna be a tough transition for some.
