Bayonetta 2 - Nintendo Cosplay (Wii U)

Hmm...do you guys think the Mario costume is real? Looks 'shopped. She's not wearing the hat in the screenshot with the chain chomp weapon and the hat is slapped on an already existing CG render of bayonetta.

We don't know but I am hoping that they are unlocked at the start other it seem silly hyping them up and then have then locked away.

I'd be surprised if it was that easy, though. In the original Bayo1, you couldn't even buy the accessory necessary to access the extra costumes (which were still bought separately!) until you completed the game at least once on Normal (or harder).

I would definitely welcome a change, though. At least have the Super Mirror accessory be something you could purchase the first time through.

These costumes and some of the reaction are proof that a developer can go way beyond the norm of a simple costume reskin and create something interesting and unique with these alternate looks, and people will still bitch about it.

I loved Bayonetta. I still love Bayonetta - it's easily one of my favorite games of this past generation and Bayonetta 2 is hands down my number one reason for getting a Wii U.

But when I watch this I feel nothing. I don't give a shit about these costumes at all.

If you aren't excited to play a Bayonetta/Samus/Link hybrid, then there is something wrong with you.

Wonderful 101 had been sitting unfinished for a year and I just beat it right now, I'm so ready for Bayonetta 2.

Hoping for lots of postgame stuff. I'm sure we can expect an awesomely remixed hard mode again, hell it looks like W101 follows that rule too but I got some other games to beat before the october shitstorm.

I don't get it. Dev went way beyond just a reskin and people are still bitching.

When I first saw these costumes I thought they looked like standard bonus content. Nothing outstanding, but nice to have considering how the original game couldn't include the cosplay type costumes Kamiya wanted, like an Okami themed outfit. (This in particular was a real disappointment. I would have loved to run around as Amaterasu in panther mode.) Then I saw how Platinum was adding special features to the Nintendo costumes. Bowser Wicked Weave attacks, enemies dropping Rupees, special moves for the Samus outfit... These aren't just cute reskins, they modify gameplay. That's enough to send my interest through the roof. I am all about content that boosts replay value.

I've been playing the original Bayonetta pretty steadily since the day of its release, and now Bayonetta 2 is shaping up to blow it away. You have all the new weapons and enemies, and a good chance that some of the first game's weapons and enemies will reappear. You have Tag Climax, which excites me less for the co-op element than the fantastc ability to play custom sets of battles from a considerable selection of premade verses. (This alone justifies a day one purchase for me. It's DMC3 & 4's Bloody Palace but so much better.) You have multiple playable characters that have different fighting styles this time. And now you have costumes that modify Bayonetta's abilities at least as much as accessories do, most likely more.

I can't overstate how hyped I am for this game based purely on what I know it will include. Factor in all the awesome stuff I have no clue about and Bayonetta 2 looks a lot like my future Game of the Generation.

They're subtle changes to the gameplay.

They're not going to really enhance the core game but they're going to be a nice diversion if you are replaying it for the 8000th time and want something a bit fresh.

I assume that the Link costume
frees up an accessory slot, since it supposedly has the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa's parry/counter function built right in. It's pretty important to have that equipped at all times IMO.
That alone is a major upgrade. It'll be even better if you don't have to use the Master Sword in one of your arm slots, because then you'd have that feature with no limit to your weapon choices.

Whatever power or dynamic people think these changes bring, they should be grateful they are there.

First of all, they can't diminish the legacy of the franchise as they are optional.

Secondly, nothing about this game seems halfassed; Platinum didn't have to do any of this, just shows you them and their labor of love.

Yep, there's absolutely no downside. Worst case scenario: you hate the way the costumes look so you don't use them. Meanwhile, other people enjoy them and a handful of Nintendo fans possibly give the game a try just because Bayonetta is cosplaying familiar characters.

Ah, that is a significant gameplay change if that's what it does. Statement retracted.

Space Jump?? That made my day!!

I will probably play both 1 and 2 games twice, first time with the original outfit, and the second time with the Power Suit.

i think they're kind of cute but Sega outfits would be way cooler/more fitting.

Yeah, looking at this trailer, it's kind of crazy that OG Bayonetta never had any deep Sega cuts in the game outside of Afterburner/Outrun homages, especially since Sega owns the damn IP and had no real issues with Sumo getting liberal with their All Star series.

It does bring to question what the Power Suit's charge weapon is based off of in game. Maybe a new weapon.

I think the costumes are all "better" in some small way, so the charge shot doesn't necessarily need to replace something.

e.g. Link has Mahaa-Kalaa Parry, Peach has Wicked Weaves that hit a wider area.

None of the buffs seem crazy OP or anything though, so I don't think we'll feel forced into using the Nintendo costumes.

You collect "Halos" that are obviously supposed to evoke "Rings" and they name drop Eggman in the opening cutscene.

I thought Bayo 1 had a decent amount of nods and fan service.

Well, they didn't have the budget from Sega to put in a bunch of extra costumes like this. Clearly Nintendo's giving them more. Also you can make a business case that Nintendo costumes will drive some sales due to the popularity of Nintendo's IPs, whereas you couldn't with most of Sega's.

It just feels so empty. At least the nods to VJ and DMC in the first game made sense due to the game's legacy - these are only here because Bayonetta 2 is on a Nintendo console.

I'm right there with you. I also like how they weren't as overt and in your face in the first game so they felt like clever nods in comparison to....well this.

I mean I'm glad they're in and that the people who want them will enjoy them

but I probably won't use them much.

I would gladly get a Wii U just to play this game. Bayonetta 1 was a favorite of mine last generation. Too bad it's damn expensive around here.

You can always tell the ones that havent played the original game in these threads. Such blantant nonsense.

It's not about budget really. IIRC there were a lot of ideas that Sega just straight up shot down.

I think Kamiya said as much about an Ulala costume when asked on twitter

Nintendo simply saying yes where Sega said no

Well, guess I'm never buying another Sega game.

That's so Sega

It's.... IP management in general I guess

Kamiya went onto elaborate that the reason for denying her use was because of the violence and gore in the game when pressed further about it

and I believe he's also said Nintendo has denied certain requests for both 101 and Bayo 2, though he didn't really specify what those things were

Wasn't trying to fan this company loyalty war that already dominates these threads. Just explaining that budget doesn't seem to really be a large constraining factor for the number of costumes in this game
