Bayonetta 3 Sells 1 million copies

Congrats, happy for them.

I couldn't get myself to buy it, the first two weren't for me, it just felt like I was button mashing my way thru it. And I won't bother learning how to actually press.

However, the new one, Origins, looks great, but still don't know why it's $60. Even the Direct didn't really give any reason.

Does that bode well for future installments? Not sure what they'd want it to sell, clearly doesn't need to sell 10 million to be considered a success like we've heard recently.

Deserved, seems to be outpacing Bayonetta 2.

Still a shame how under-appreciated this series is, there's really nothing like it when it comes to action games.

Given that it hasn't got a price cut yet its probably generated more revenue than either of the previous games did. I'd say it bodes well for Bayo 4 is Platinum wanted to make it.

That was quick (compared to the previous games), congrats to Platinum. Hopefully this means we'll get a 4th installment.

Console players these day don't care about hardcore games unless they're competitive MP and even then that's mostly PC territory... That's why games like Bayonetta or Xenoblade have very limited audience.

They're more into casual stuff like cinematic or party games.

Good to know Bayonetta is doing ok with sales, it was never going to sell 5 millions, that one million is around 60 millions minus some retailers chunk for Nintendo and I don't think the game costed even close to it to be made, it's only going to make profit from now on.

Probably my least favorite in the franchise. Way to many set pieces and not enough moment to moment combo action. I hope it does well though.

No…hopefully that means we get MGR: R2!!
I definitely wouldn't mind a sequel to that one, Vanquish 2 would be great as well. Or a sequel to Astral Chain, or MadWorld.

Platinum makes a lot of good stuff

Not great sales, but not the bomb I was fearing.

It had a long development cycle, but as long as Nintendo feels happy about having a varied offering of games they will keep funding Platinum. Even if Nintendo or Platinum won't get rich from this, it's smart to offer different experiences on the Switch, and Nintendo values that enough to keep Platinum making Bayonetta games I would wager.

Hope they return to Bayo 2 formula for the next one, certainly the best of the series.

The Kaiju "gameplay" is underwhelming.

Bayo 1 is the only entry multiplatform for all consoles.

There's no way else Xbox or PS users could legitimately play the full series without a Switch (which is still a console).

Loved the 1st one and thought the sequel was good but couldn't get myself to purchase 3.

Surprised it's sold 1 million with the comolete lack of marketing. Congrats to Platinum!

Initial release date: 28 October 2022
I am actually surprised it is that low, is Bayonetta not a well loves series? I enjoyed the ugly ass PS3 OG version. Did Pokémon release around that time or something?

Platinum has never really had a sales succes outside of NieR Automata

Great game. Didn't understand the need for all the gimmicky stuff and especially the horrible Jeanne parts and the villain felt extremely weak, but still well deserved

To be honest I prefer the game sells less and remains AA instead of trying to sell out to a larger audience and lose its soul in the process.

It's just that there are not that many good action games those days, in the past years it's basically DMC V, Astral Chain and Bayo.

I hope you mean the Kaiju boss fights and not the summon mechanic…

Are you living under a toilet? Helena Taylor did an awesome Marketing Campaign for this game, complete with multiple videos, social media campaigns ect...Nintendo needs to cut her a check

As long as the industry is healthy, I'm ok with that, most games I've loved these past years have been AA like 70%

Look at this list and see the audience yourself:
I don't think that means much, Bayonetta was never going to sell anywhere close to Nintendos fist party offerings. I'm surprised it has made it to 1M already tbh.

Bayonetta 1 sold like 1,5M in total on PS3/360, a user base of 170M. And also on systems where people tend to argue this type of game would be more popular.

There's a reason no one but Nintendo wanted to risk funding the franchise.

Most likely yes. I doubt Nintendo has huge expectations for this series, so selling lifetime 1 to 2 million is pretty darn good.(and makes some profit) Plus it expands their library with a unique offering.(that seems to have a pretty dedicated core fanbase)

I think the fact that these type of games never go on sale really limits their potential. Bayonetta is one of those franchises in which I'm sure a lot of people would like to try, but they aren't curious enough to spend 60$ on it. Sadly, Nintendo thinks that not only should their own games never get a price drop: Any game they publish should never get a price drop either. Bayonetta therefore kind of struggles to grow beyond anyone not already fully on board.

I personally like the fact that Nintendo games never fall of a cliff price wise. Look how Ubisoft is struggling, their audience know games will go on sale for half off in less than two months.

I also like it when I purchase a Nintendo game and won't regret not waiting a month later.
