I forget the exact article, but it mentioned the Japanese ratings having issues with Palutena and the Wonder Pink trophy. Apparently it almost got the game delayed

Nah. I don't think anyone would have the expectancy of more FE character appearing unless they were really heavily requested in the Ballot
She's a Japanese character though so she has that going for her, otherwise she'd have no chance at all even if she was popular in the western votes.

I think the only newcomers that got no specific artists were Villager, Rosalina, Bowser Jr., WFT, Little Mac, Duck Hunt, and Pac-Man. And even then I'd argue that the last four mimicked their origin art well unlike the first three which used Sm4sh aesthetic/CG art.

All of them but Pac-Man are Nintendo characters so there's nothing really to gice tribute to arrwise beyond the games their in.

Overall though, the only character I'm even the slightest bit salty about is Cloud, and only because I'm not a big fan and would have preferred either:
1. A third-party character who is more closely related to Nintendo from Square Enix, or
2. A first-party character
Except for a few missing wants (Inkling, Ashley, Advance Wars rep, Rhythm Heaven rep, Tingle, King Hippo), this was a pretty great roster of newcomers.
Well I worry about shitposting, I'm sure enough people get annoyed by those who seriously use that pic in threads.

Cloud is a GOAT Smash announcement. Link vs. Cloud has been a dream matchup for anyone who was gaming in the N64/PSX days, and now they can finally settle it in Smash.
Also, Sakurai's "swing through" moveset for Cloud with the Buster Sword is just innately satisfying. Perfectly fits the style of Smash.
Add in the back-and-forth of Limit Charge and the risk-reward mechanic of Limit Breaks (do you save it for the mobility buff and improved recovery, or seize an opening for an attack), and you have a richly rewarding character.
I imagine that mastering combos and Bullet Arts to efficiently rack up damage with Bayonetta and then pinpointing the right moment for a Witch Time + Wicked Weave finisher will be similarly satisfying!

People who seriously get annoyed at the use of that image probably aren't worth worrying too much about. You'll never be able to satisfy them regardless of how much you police your own behaviour.

To be fair, the Inklings are guaranteed for Smash 5....unless Splatoon takes a nose-dive in popularity within the next few years. While a Rhythm Heaven rep, whoever it was (probably the Chorus Kids), are a safe bet for Smash 5 as well, they aren't Inkling levels of guaranteed. Same for Ashley, since her Mii Costume was likely a sign that Sakurai is aware of her popularity (though in Smash 4's case, she was already an Assist Trophy). Remember when Bayonneta couldn't be in because her proportions wouldn't work with Smash? As in her legs were too long? Anyone who said and/or agreed with this line of thinking should be banned from all future Smash Bros speculation.

Serious question? Her name is a play on the word "bayonet." As in a blade attached to a rifle.
(Although come to think of it, she ironically lacks any such weapon)
I've seen U.S. ads for the Cloud DLC running before YouTube videos. They'll probably do the same for Corrin and Bayonetta when that DLC is out.

She's just a color for I think the Bayo 1 costume. No actual Jeanne.

When I brought her up being a possible candidate for a Snake-style 'surprising' guest I was told she wouldn't happen since TOO MUCH ASS, which considering her reveal poster has half the cast going SWIGGITY SWOOTY over hers was obviously total bullshit.
To be fair I think they slightly reworked Bayonetta's proportions now though; she's more just 'super duper tall lady' compared to her outright abstract fashion drawing look she has in her games.
I saw the same ad. That's just her trophy. You get trophies of Jeanne, Rodin and Cereza when you download the DLC.

Jeanne (Bayonetta 2 design) is a trophy.
There's an alt color for Bayonetta in her second outfit that is a reference to Jeanne (short hair)
The Jeanne alt color is for the Bayo 2 costume, actually.
The colors are:
Bayo 2 — Black
Bayo 2 — Gold
Bayo 2 — Silver
Bayo 2 — Red and Silver (Jeanne)
Bayo 1 — Black
Bayo 1 — Green
Bayo 1 — Red
Bayo 1 — Blue
I'm most interested in the gold and silver Bayo 2s, and the red Bayo 1

The Bayonetta 1 alt is fantastic, but I have to wonder what you see in her non-Jeanne palettes. To me, they seem a little basic and safe, not really working to the strengths of the design, like the Amaterasu or Game of Death palettes in Anarchy Reigns. What elevates these ones over them for you?
