Beast Wars Megatron is the best Megatron

One thing about Beast Wars Megatron that's quite interesting in light of the world we live in today, is that he's basically a fundamentalist terrorist, considered a wanted criminal by his own kind.

The Predacon leadership had grudgingly made peace with the Maximals, which he saw as a betrayal of their Decepticon heritage. So he steals the golden discs to use them to find energon to fuel a new war against the Maximals, and then discovers even more extreme options as the series goes on (which he happily embraces being the fanatic that he is.)

Damn that scene is sweet as hell. But why is Beast Wars Megatron so much smaller than Prime?
Megatron refers to the Autobots and Decepticons as "archaic energron guzzlers" in late season 2, so presumably the change of body types was made to make them more energy efficient. Which kinda makes sense given how much conflict the Decepticon's constant desire/need for more energon caused in G1.

G1 Megatron got exactly nothing done through the entire series. He couldn't even get a foothold on a technologically inferior human planet, and he had nothing left to do on Cybertron because the Decepticons already controlled it. Apparently he did manage to lose control of both of Cybertron's moons to the Autobots between 1986 and 2005, though. His greatest accomplishment is building a giant purple robot griffin, whose purpose is never revealed, although he seems to think it will allow him to rule the planet until it's destroyed by one Autobot and a 12 year old boy. And don't even try the "but he killed Optimus Prime" thing, because Megatron lost that fight. Hot Rod killed Optimus Prime.

Beast Wars Megatron, on the other hand, legitimately killed Optimus Prime and altered the entire history of the universe by playing the longest figurative chess game in syndicated cartoon history. Later on he stole G1 Megatron's soul and became a motherfucking dragon as a result. Frankly BW Megatron should have won decisively about four separate times in Beast Wars, but even in a show as well written as that, the good guys have to prevail because of reasons. Beast Machines was garbage, but that was a totally different "creative" team and the whole thing is best ignored.

...the Decepticons had multiple planets under control throughout the galaxy. The fight was basically over by the time the movie came out Cybertron and other planets were under decepticon rule even though multiple factions were on the planet, the last hold out was earth and moons of cybertron because of the autobots. The main reason Megatron couldnt finish off the Autobots was because this guy showed up on the tv show, he wasn't in the movie for a reason , they booked the guy like John Cena he never lost clean or on screen even when Shockwave got 1 up on him.

Omega Supreme + DInobots saved the Autobots until the movie.

Matter of fact Megatron took over the Devastator, killed Optimus's original body, and developed transformation powers like the autobots before the show started. He then proceeded to actually get enough power from earth and other planets to go back to Cybertron, and conquer it by the time the movie starts. Part of the drama of the tv show was how quickly the Decepticons got back up and running after teletraan 1 put them back together. They were back on cybertron, with dimensional bridges and getting energon from all over the galaxy for the war effort on cybertron. Earth didnt even matter in the long run , this was clear to any kid watching that the Autobots interfered with Megatron because they didn't want earth to suffer for them crash landing. I don't think you even saw that show.

Such heroic nonsense.

I grew up on G1 but this is wrong. While G1 Megatron had his moment. Beast Wars Megatron was on an entirely different level. Beastwars Megatron was actually Smart and cunning. He was the Professor Moriarty of transformers.

I could go with Beast Wars Megatron. Besides, he had a really awesome dragon form (that one is one of my favorites in my transformer collection, even got the blue variant).

I'd also add the Megatron from "The Animated Series" (which by the way the guy who voiced Beast Wars Megatron voiced the good guy leader in "The Animated Series"). Yeah, I know a lot of fans didn't like that one but I liked him. He came off as the most down to business/smart Megatron. For example instead of giving Starscream several chances just shot him and killed him without even bothering to listen for his excuse (unfortunately for him, in a homage to the original Starscream turning into a ghost, this one did too in a way and kept coming back just to get killed again).

I grew up on G1, and screw it: Beast Wars as a whole blows it away. And I'm in complete agreement: BW Megs is GOAT.

(A really close second in overall quality is Transformers: Animated. A show that was, quite simply, too beautiful to live.)

I'm very fond of the original, but Beast Wars Megatron is pretty great. I mean, before Beast Machines turned him into a genocidal Hannibal Lector.

but g1 has dinosaurs. mecha dinosaurs. unlike bw meg's more realistic t-rex design. (lol purple)

g1 also has numerous f-15s, an f-16, an a-10, a concorde, a number of space shuttles, tanks and motherfucking cassettes that transform into predatory mecha birds and a big cat that would fuck your shit up.

Megaton is now a dragon

Your argument is invalid.

Way cooler than that fucking awful gun.

Hmm, I'll give you that. G1 movie Megatron is right up there though, simply because of his ruthlessness in comparison to his actions in the G1 series. Although, there's nothing more ruthless than using the Lincoln Memorial as a throne.

RID Megatron was the best. He could turn into a hand :p

How can that be badass when the worst Megatron did the same thing?

As much as I like G1 Megs, I have to agree. BW Megs is just such a charming and charismatic villain. Kaye also kills it with the voice work. Welker's Megs is great and iconic, but I feel like BW Megs is just a more interesting villain overall. Kaye absolutely nails the personality as well.

Good versions of Megatron - turns into a gun.

Bad versions of Megatron - turns into anything that is not a gun.

I'm very partial to IDW's recent Stealth Bomber Megs design.

Super sexy. Too bad their stories were pretty bland at the time. Their current Tank design is a very good G1 update and works well too.

There's only one Megatron who can lay claim to the title of "best Megatron" and it's the Megatron of the Unicron Trilogy.

More resilient than any Megatron, more grandiose than any Megatron, more powerful than any Megatron (unless we're counting the Alternity), and voiced by David Kaye. He came back from the dead three times.

Having first waged a successful campaign in enslaving many Mini-Cons, Megatron managed to claim all three of the legendary Mini-Con superweapons - the Star Saber, the Skyboom Shield, and the Requiem Blaster - with which he powered the Hydra Cannon, a massively powerful starship that could have destroyed the Earth. Instead, Optimus managed to deflect its blast with the Matrix but crumbled into space dust, leaving Megatron victorious in the war. Although Megatron briefly slipped into depression at the suddenness of his rival's death, he regained his vigor after Prime's rebirth and his own upgrade into Galvatron through the Mini-Cons. Galvatron returned to Cybertron and, with the Autobots trailing far behind, conquered it. After being convinced of the threat of Unicron by Starscream sacrificing himself in a suicide attack on the god to show that Unicron's weapons systems were online, Galvatron formed an alliance with Optimus that successfully brought down the chaos bringer. Until he and Prime's rivalry boiled over to such an extent that the battle between the two of them afterward produced so much hatred that Unicron was brought back online[/spoiler]. Galvatron then sacrificed himself by throwing himself into Unicron's maw to stop his regeneration and save Cybertron.

Galvatron then engineered his own resurrection by siphoning off energon supplies for the next ten years brought to Unicron by the Terrorcons under Alpha Q and Scorponok until he re-emerged in a reborn Megatron body, beat Scorponok into submission and stole Unicron's body to use as his own personal WMD. After gathering enough energon to reactivate the dark god's body, he attacked Cybertron, only to be thwarted when a collision of positive and negative energon in huge quantities ripped open a whole in space-time that sucked in Unicron and many Transformers. Megatron then spent a while pillaging newly born planets in the rift for their energon and reactivated Unicron once more but this time fell prey to his mind control. After Optimus Prime, augmented by Primus' power, destroyed Unicron, Megatron was driven mad by Unicron's spark calling to him from the void of space to try and provide him with a new body - Cybertron itself - and after upgrading himself (again) to Galvatron in a super energon pool he grew to gigantic sizes and pulled Cybertron by an energon cord into the rift to sacrifice it to Unicron until Prime beat his senses back into him. Galvatron took Unicron's spark into himself and hurled himself into an energon sun to try to kill the dark god.

However, Galvatron was instead preserved by Unicron's dark armor, merging with it to (...again) be reborn as a new Megatron who was even more megalomaniacal than his previous incarnations. After the energon sun imploded and caused the multiverse-warping Unicron Singularity black hole, the guardian of space and time Vector Prime arrived with a proposition to the Autobots to locate the Cyber Planet Keys to reawaken Primus fully so that he could destroy the black hole. Megatron found out about it and hunted down the keys and the Omega Lock needed to combine their powers. After nearly claiming the Lock for himself, Megatron was killed inside his personal fire dimension when Optimus and Vector Prime collapsed it upon him, sealing the realm with the powers of the Matrix and the sword Rhisling - Vector Prime's personal sword that was once used to defeat the ancient evil Mogahn the Mass, whose death was so powerful that it caused the Big Bang. But due to his possession of Unicron's armor, Megatron was reborn, temporarily as a ghost but then fully formed. After learning that the final key - that of the planet Gigantion - existed in a different universe, he crossed dimensions by pure force of will and absorbed the power of the key, becoming (...again) Galvatron. Galvatron then beat Starscream so hard that he literally punched him into another dimension. After claiming the Omega Lock, Galvatron grew to gigantic sizes again and began to use its power to reshape the universe in his own image, hurling the Lock into the center of the Unicron Singularity to destroy the universe. Of course Optimus managed to stop it and Primus closed the black hole, but in his defiance Galvatron challenged Prime to one last battle, in which he was finally slayed once and for all, only having been taken down because Prime went super saiyan from the power of the Matrix while wielding Rhisling. Even in death Galvatron continued to fight Vector Prime's spirit.

Most other Megatrons look tiny in comparison.

Animated Megatron. Transforms from badbass helicopter into badass robot. TFA is still my favorite entry in the Transformers franchise. Sadly it got canned.=(

Underated post about underated show is underated.

Still like Gen 1 the most however, I never saw Beast Wars outside a couple episodes.

Wasn't the third part supposed to be an indipendent show but Hasbro was all "Eh, dub it as part three, the kids won't notice"?

Anyways, in hindsight dude was too anime for me. Had some pretty cool designs though, other than the last one. It could have been cool but ended up as a weird mishmash of kibble IMO.

TFA Megatron was the best. Brilliant, calculating, and incredibly intimidating. Corey Burton knocked it out of the ballpark. (Corey Burton's Megatron to Tom Kenny's Starscream was an amazing combination.)

I miss TFA, wah.

Cybertron/Galaxy Force is kind of a weird issue. It was originally intended to be a sequel to Energon, but Takara decided that instead of doing that they wanted to make it a new series because Energon/Super Link had done so bad, so they instructed the anime team not to bother making it connected. However, they still put in small references to the previous shows like one scene where you can see Unicron's shards floating through space, and Hasbro was determined to make it linked so they dubbed it as a sequel. Takara later went back and retconned it into being a sequel to Armada and Energon anyway making the whole thing a waste of time on their part.

I really like Fall Of / War for Cybertron Megatron he really gave no fuck about anybody and was shit talking all the time.

BW Megatron was definitely the most likeable. Much more manipulative and conniving as opposed to other iterations of the series that portray him as more a barbarian king.

That said, Prime Megatron was damn fine. You knew what you were getting with that one.

Imo Beast Wars was the best transformers had to offer. G1 was my first experience but can't say I really cared until BW.
