Because We Can, That's Why: Theaters Testing Jack and/or Rum & Coke Slurpee Machines

I don't think it's that bad. They serve booze at restaurants and a drunken brawl hasn't broken out at any of the ones I've been to. I'm usually high as fuck in the movie theater anyway so I can't really judge.

How much will they be charging for these? Just buy a slurpy at regular price and mix it with your own snuck in bottle of alcohol.

Shortly after moving to assigned seating and loungers our Marcus Cinemas around here started selling "real" food, ice cream/shakes, and alcohol (only beer though I think).

This just seems like a natural progression.

I want one of those machines for my house.

I guess it makes sense for natural progression of where some theaters are going for a more adult environment.

Yea, not sure why people are freaking out about possibly loud crowds once you introduce alcohol. The two main theaters I go to around here have alcohol and i've never had a problem even in full showings.

Jesus Christ, kids. The idea that your local theater is going to be a blood and cum filled bacchanal sure to shock Caligula himself because people are getting blackout fucked on Rum & Coke Slurpees isn't a serious concern here.

It's a goof. I was kidding.

I too, have had experiences in theaters where alcohol was present and I didn't drive my fist through another mans head like the end of Event Horizon. It was actually quite nice.

But Rum & Coke Slurpees on tap at a movie theater seems goofy as shit to me.

It'd be prohibitively expensive (Theaters already charge about $7 for a large Slurpee), but I could be tempted toward this as a fun novelty.

Seems to me like selling liquor would translate to more people talking during the movies?

From a very deep business perspective, offering drinks makes perfect sense.

Some ArcLite cinemas (here in L.A. - at least some locations, i can't verify all)
already have a full bar right before you enter the movie and while it may seem that drinking will trigger social engagement/interaction, has quite the opposite effect, because almost all of the people I saw drinking, ended up falling asleep during the movie (including myself)
causing me to return a few days later & purchasing another ticket to watch the same movie I missed due to my drunkenness.

Final Score

Movie Theater owner - 2
Me - 0

If people are insane enough to spend 4.95 on a medium icee in the worst flavor, I guess there might be enough people out there to buy a $10 one with the slightest hint of rum.

I got nothing, I do like my frozen Drinks at the Cinema, I like my Jack n Coke, but together & in the Cinema Why? Plus it will be watered down & pricey.

I kinda wanna remember the movie, not forget about it, unless it's the Transformers movies, then you Drink as much Jack as you can for those.

I remember the good old days when you had to sneak in booze & food to the theatre. The added adrenaline rush was what made the movie experience better.

Now it's just not the same.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't already drinking booze secretly in the theater. Might as well do it out in the open.

Watch a single drink be like $15, though.

I think it's just the idea of a fuckin rum & coke SLURPEE that's throwing me. Portland's had beer theaters for like 20 years now, and the upscale joints around here have finally started including beer and wine in their own "premium" rooms.

But the notion of going through the cafeteria lunch line things they got at the multiplexes now and paying 6 bucks for a 32oz Jack & Coke slurpee seems fuckin' weird to me.
There's a local bar/eatery somewhat near me that serves frozen Jack & Cokes as one of their specialties.

They're pretty damn great.
