Been playing RE7 and love it but can I get real for a minute here?

Great game. Like, going to be in my top 5 at the end of the year almost without doubt. Enjoy the move to First person even though I was a bit skeptical but this game commits a most unforgivable crime.

We get none of this:

Literally every game in the franchise has done this even some of the real garbage fire side games in the series.

Capcom please for the love of everything that is good give us the proper title screen for RE7 we deserve.

Oh wow, I'm surprised to hear it doesn't have that. As an old RE mark (who's somewhat drifted away from the series in recent years) the title screen was always one of my favorite aspects of the games.

100% agreed. And honestly it would have fit with the tone of the game. It's very Evil Dead/B movie-ish the whole way through. A pretty big oversight IMO.

Can't believe they didn't put it in...they were claiming they wanted to do a new type of title screen for a new RE but what was so special about the title screen they have now? It's a minor nitpick but it was disappointing it wasn't in the game even for the end credits.

Guys this game is more Resident Evil than any other game in the series in the past decade so let's not get too hung over a bloody title screen lol.

Real talk, it always bugged me that the RE3 one only said "Resident Evil" with no mention of 3 or the subtitle.

Yeah, capcom better not even think of skipping out for RE8.
Especially when their whole idea of "Oh the game starts differently" was bullshit.
There was a main menu just like every other game.

What they should've done was say the name at the end of the game.
They showed the title of it anyway there.

I knew exactly what you were gonna say when I saw the thread title. I noticed the same thing and was surprised. They could have dropped the cheese and kept it.

Guess I'm in the minority, but I like the title screen for 7. Yeah, it's a big departure from the other games, but I like the plain, simple font they used along with the closeup on the voice recorder, Dulvey Beer, etc... The music is good too.

I think the Albert-01 justified the absence of a rocket launcher. Being able to use the replica version in NG+ was a nice touch, too.

I disagree.
That shit was whack. A pistol vs a rocket launcher.
Like I don't care what ammo is being packed in that pistol, and rocket launcher is always cooler.

The menu is fine. BUT there's literally nothing stopping that menu from having the game go "Resident Evil VII" when you click new game.
The way they made it sound like in interviews was that the game was going to instantly start when popped it in.
If you got time to shove Aunt Rhody before the title screen, you can put someone saying Resident Evil 7 when you click new game.

That's a bit too much personality for this game.
The Bakers have more personality than every other group of villains in the series. Mainly because they're actually humanized on top of the over the top shit.

Yep. It would also make the game feel a bit like RE, which would clash with the rest of the game.
The game revitalized the series and is the most classic representation of RE since Code Veronica and people are still saying this?

Yeah it was weird, I think it's because they were trying too hard to make it extra scary and the voice thing makes it a bit cheesy (which I don't mind). Still not that big of a deal, game is still amazing, traditional RE goodness in every other department.

It wasn't dead though.

Lol.

It's odd how they would think that's too cheesy. When Evil Dead was like the main influence of the game, and even the very beginning of the game is already goof. "I'm GONNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE BOY"

RE7 was like playing a very scary chortle film. After you are finished you have no desire to go back through the mad house... (imo)

It wasn't dead though.
It was stuck in a rut of low budget mediocrity and if it had continued it's present course it would gone the way of the Sonic series. RE7 is a legitimately great game the team should be proud of.

It was horribly stagnant and hadn't touched its roots in ages. This was a much needed breath of fresh air which I felt really evoked the past games and brought the slower gameplay style successfully to a modern standard.

Hmmm. I'll agree to disagree here. RE6 wasn't perfect.
But I think the series would have continued just fine with another action title so long as it was of quality and toned things a bit back to be like RE4. For as hated as RE5 and 6 seem to be, they are still sitting at their top sellers. So had it been an action game, with early reviews proving it's quality. It would have been fine I think. The spinoffs and rev games are taken as their own things, and the sales show people consider it as such. I won't really defend something like Umbrella Corps though. Dunno who though a linux esports MP game was a good idea (Even if I had some fun with it).

Yet another action game with a super hero protagonist and a convoluted plot is literally the opposite of what this series needed. RE7 is proof of that, not only was it likely cheaper to produce, it's easier to digest, has more original design that makes it stick out, and is hella more memorable. RE6 wasn't even close to perfect, every aspect of the game was heavily flawed.

Eh, I can't really say I agree. I mean I get where you're coming from.
But I just can't get behind that something like RE7 was the only answer for the series surviving and all that.
You could have made an action game that much like RE4, took a step back from the deeper lore bits. You could then scale down the price by making a smaller locale that you revist through multiple times like in RE4.
Like basically. Had they made another RE game and how RE7 used RE1 as a base. Used RE4 for this hypothetical action game. I think they would've came out ok.

We'll never know though since that isn't what we got. I personally though 7 was just alright. I like the base of what they were trying to do. But there's still a lot of work to be done to really carry that feel of the older games. They nailed it when collecting the dog heads, and then it drops off from there. Regardless of that I don't mind this style going forward, but I feel RE7 has plenty of flaws that get swept under the rug by some since it at least wasn't another RE6 for some people.

I have to assume all the shitposts claiming it would be too resident evil like, didn't actually play re7. This is the most resident evil a game has been imo since re3.

Not hitting roots doesn't mean stagnation, though. Capcom hasn't stopped experimenting since RE4 and I've been a big fan of that, RE7 included when many feared it would simply ape current horror trends.

I have to disagree in that while some mechanics changed, resident evil 4,5,6 all felt very similar to one another. And that's something capcom frequently does.

RE1-3 had the same issue where by 3 many said it felt stagnant, and they were right. I'm happy they went with 4, and I'm happy they've gone back now because the fatigue on the last "trilogy" was strong.

I fully expect Capcom to do at least two more games in RE7 style, then shake up the formula again once it's stagnated.

That might depend. At GDC they were already talking about this

Nakanishi: #RE7 focused on direction. However Capcom does not reject other RE gameplay styles. Maybe they'll come back in the future

Seems like if the director has a good enough pitch/idea they'll go with that.
If RE8 was third person, but still played like RE7 I wouldn't even be surprised.

RE7 was a great direction. Major downside to me was the Molded got super boring really quickly. The game needed more interesting and varied enemies and I would remember it much more fondly. As it is I felt it was good but not great.

Action RE fans make me fume. There are dozens of other dudebro wacky shooters out there, RE was not conceived as one. Leave it alone.

The only sin of RE7 is being first person, which means you don't give a shit about your character, but other than that it's cool.

What about the game doesn't feel like RE?
It would be easier to list the things that feel like RE:

-The game structure/progression during the first half of the game (which is somewhat reminiscent of classic RE)
-The enemy design (in singular, beacause having more than one enemy type would also be too much like RE of course)

That's it. Everything else (the tone, the music, the art style, the story, the character designs, etc) feels nothing like RE. It's like it happens in a completely different universe. Even with the shift to action, RE4-6 felt way more like RE than RE7.

It wouldn't be so bad if the new style was as good as either classic or action RE, but unfortunately that's not the case. Hell, as mediocre as the Revelations games are (they are like a bad version of action RE) I'd rather replay them than RE7.

Hopefully the RE2 Remake will be an actual return to classic RE. Although with so many comments saying how RE7 is totally like classic RE (LMAO) I've decided to set my expectations really low, so I will be bit less disappointed if Capcom decides to turn it into a 1st person game.

I would argue that plenty of people give more of a shit because it's in first person :p pretty easy to empathise when your the one getting wacked.
