These people are trying to be ugly or make weird faces though.. doesn't really apply to this topic. This is about people who are trying their best to take good photos, but still turn out like crap!

i think also some people reinforce it, they think "oh i look crap in photos" so if they know someone is taking one they turn away, or try to hide, or end up with a weird look on their face because they're uncomfortable - so perpetuating it all.

edit: see mr photogenic guy, he's confident, looking straight at the camera smiling, playing up to the camera a little. that's what i'm talking about.

It's definitely real in both directions. Might not be as widespread as some claim, but it's definitely real.

It is real, and it mostly has to do with the fact that pictures are taken in 2D. For people with rounded faces, their facial traits dissappear or blur if a picture is taken from the front. Most of the girlfriends that I ever had were always far better looking in real life than in pics, too (not that I had a problem with that either).

Yep, it's all about how the head/ bone structure bounces off light.
Lots of actors look pretty weird in real life too.

The main guy from white collar looks odd when seen out of the show. In the show he looks very attractive.. Not saying that he's not irl but not close to the extent as portrayed on TV.

Yeah, my husband get real confused by my massive array of photos and was like your face is never the SAME! And then we met in person, he says I'm very cute and pretty lol. I believe it though, its very annoying but personally I don't care all that much. Its just cool and interesting than say... THIS.
