Ben Carson's Conformation Hearing

I support Ben for HUD. Anyone is better than Castro.

A neurosurgeon can learn anything quickly.

Well, it means he can learn brain surgery quickly. And by quickly, I mean over many years of school.

Why? I trust a neurosurgeon more than a typical politician.

A neurosurgeon is qualified to do absolutely one thing: operate on your brain.

Ben Carson, by his own admission, is not qualified to run a federal agency!

If someone achieves the status of neurosurgeon, that is telling me of their ability to accumulate knowledge and use their brain.

Also, a very high percentage of people fail.

Ben came from the streets and achieved his goals. That alone is very commendable.

Oddly enough, he didn't think he was qualified to run an agency that closely aligned to his profession and expertise, but chose something he has absolutely no experience or knowledge about instead.

Maaaaaad Wooooorld.

Carson's statements over the last 3 years should show everyone that achieving the status of neurosurgeon has nothing to do with being able to accumulate knowledge in other areas.

Carson is a politician. He dodges questions and gets angry at reporters. He also believes in pseudoscience. He was only got in this game to sell his book.

Reporters can make anyone angry. He's human.

Carson's statements over the last 3 years should show everyone that achieving the status of neurosurgeon has nothing to do with being able to accumulate knowledge in other areas.

I don't agree. As someone that is very intimate with the medical industry - I know the caliber of people that surgeons encompass.

It's been my experience that doctors can be very intelligent in the field they trained for. Sometimes though, they are complete dipshits outside of it. Anything that doesn't lend more usefulness or knowledge to their field is tossed away and not needed. Carson fits this experience. If he were to devote himself to running HUD to the way he studied for neurosurgery, then there's hope. But do you expect that to happen?

Yes, Carson understands the challenges of the poor, middle class and upper class. He's experienced everything in his life.

He told the host of Mornig Joe to turn off the mic of a journalist asking him a question. He was super rude.

I don't care if someone is mean or rude. The only thing that matters is if he can do the job. And I think he can. Castro failed; so let's take another approach.

Does it bother anybody else, that there are empty fucking seats? I dunno how many people are needed to ask questions, or maybe they just don't remove chairs, but they fucking should. At least make it look as if our government gives a shit about these things.

LOL, okay. There's no evidence Carson can do the job at all. I'd be a better candidate based on your statement.

But he's also one of the least awful choices of the entire cabinet, so whatever.

Except he can't do the job. He has said he himself is not qualified to run a government agency. He's never had a job in government. He will be incompetent and will not learn how to do the job at the bare minimum level.

Also he will manage lots of employees. A good boss isn't some who acts like a dick to people.

You're giving this man far too much credit. Even though he's a neurosurgeon and overcame poverty, his behavior over the last few years trying to run for office has shown that he's woefully ignorant and inept to deal with the challenges that are required.

He's going to be a disastrous pick for HUD.

If only his brain gave more thought to what came out of his mouth.

So are you just unaware of the insane crap Carson has said or do you actually agree with it?

I don't agree with all of the nonsense that he has said. Looking at the big picture, I can see a positive outcome.

By being the mayor of the seventh largest city in America, which heavily involves housing and urban development.

Yes, on paper he would be qualified but sometimes a fresh perspective is what we need.

Except he can't do the job. He has said he himself is not qualified to run a government agency. He's never had a job in government. He will be incompetent and will not learn how to do the job at the bare minimum level.

He will learn quickly. Why accept a position then? It's not the most exciting job in the world.

You can't say "even though" before that statement. It's a monumental accomplishment.

If only his brain gave more thought to what came out of his mouth.

People can be wacky sometimes.

Are you a fan of Dr. Oz, too?

Don't know much about him besides being a successful cardiovascular surgeon.

If someone achieves the status of neurosurgeon, that is telling me of their ability to accumulate knowledge and use their brain.

This is a very telling statement. :lol

HUD has been a shitshow for a while. How was Castro qualified for it?

He was the mayor of San Antonio, and while I can't personally speak to the particular landscape of housing in that city, I assume that, like virtually any big city in America, it's a job that lends itself quite well to housing and urban development experience. Verus being a neurosurgeon, which has nothing to do with housing or urban development policy.

And I notice you specifically did not quote the last line of my post, which was that Carson had said, after turning down the HHS offer, that he did not have the experience necessary to run a federal agency!

Why? I trust a neurosurgeon more than a typical politician.

I trust a neurosurgeon with doing neurosurgery. If you think the fact that they're a neurosurgeon means anything more than that, I can only assume that you haven't spent much time around neurosurgeons. They're just as flawed as other people. Some of the them even more so because they tend to be workaholics.

Carson is a brilliant surgeon. He's clearly highly intelligent. He's also a complete idiot who can't understand that he's deeply out of his element on the practically everything but surgery.

I don't agree. As someone that is very intimate with the medical industry - I know the caliber of people that surgeons encompass.

As a doctor myself, I know tons of surgeons with absolutely moronic political views that in no way correlate with their intelligence. Getting through medical school is much more about your work ethic than it is your intelligence anyways. Him being a great neurosurgeon tells me (maybe) had he dedicated his career to housing and urban development, he would have a similar capacity to succeed. It doesn't grant you an instant superior capacity for the job with absolutely no prior experience whatsoever.

I don't agree with all of the nonsense that he has said. Looking at the big picture, I can see a positive outcome.

All of that extraneous nonsense should fill in the big picture for you. It's representative of his inability to act intelligent on virtually every matter outside of his career as a surgeon.

Don't know much about him besides being a successful cardiovascular surgeon.

He's a successful surgeon who spouts a whole lot of bullshit (some related to his field of study and some not) and likes pushing his books more than having a real career in medicine.

I brought him up because he's very much like Ben Carson in that regard, and he's proof that just because someone is effective in one field doesn't mean they're good in anything else.

I have never been able to process how someone as stupid as Ben Carson could be a successful neurosurgeon. He seems to know nothing about anything outside of his profession.
Ben Carson is one of those joke characters from RPGs made flesh. You know, where you dump all your stats into one/two skill and then leave the rest as low as possible.

In Ben's case, I'd guess luck and Intelligence. No wisdom though.

Honestly, I've spent more time with cardiovascular and orthopedic surgeons, but had my fair share of interactions with neurosurgeons. And he may be out of his element, but I expect him to do a good job.

The real test begins with residency and doing well on the boards. Medical school is essentially test taking and as you said, work ethic.

Also, political views shouldn't really come into play when managing HUD. I expect him to make some interesting decisions.

All of that extraneous nonsense should fill in the big picture for you. It's representative of his inability to act intelligent on virtually every matter outside of his career as a surgeon.

We'll see how it goes.

As a doctor myself, I can confirm.

A large portion of doctors are very smart, well rounded people who are conditioned to be quick and adaptive learners while being open to correction and empiric research. A large portion - not all. I've met plenty of doctors who are absolutely brilliant in their area but really...really weird outside of the medical setting. I have no doubt Ben Carson is intelligent but that doesn't mean he's open minded or altruistic.

We don't have to argue whether this man being a surgeon makes him intelligent or not. We have years of transcripts, video and audio proving otherwise...

Don't believe anything that Thom Tillis is saying, their cuts to unemployment benefits pay and length of allotment is really fucking unfair.
