So the same
fucked up, no closure
ending too?

Depends on if they continue or not. But i think they will continue differently than in the old anime. But we cant clearly say anything... we have to wait and watch.

I gotta agree with the peanut gallery, Griffith is looking a little too feminine in some of those shots.
And he'll probably look less feminine in other shots. Just like in the manga.

Looks good. Berserk is one of the only anime (and the only manga) I've really enjoyed and this looks a lot more competent than the original series did.

Do we know who's doing the music? Susumu Hirasawa?

Going to guess no, and that'll be pretty sad.

Despite that, trailer looked awesome. No complaints about the CG, just happy to see more Berserk animated.

They showed
skull knight
in the trailer, whom I don't think we ever saw in the original anime. Could be a sign of something different.

Yeah, disappointing if it's no. His music gave such a unique atmosphere to the original berserk series.

Edit:

I've actually been waiting for this forever. I started reading the manga years ago and eventually got around to watching the anime. I was disappointed, but at the same time I was able to save my friend's life, who thought it ended at the
eclipse
. So that was nice.

About the manga
I hope they finish this Sea God story soon, man I really hate those pirates. I'm ready for them to get to Elfheim. Also I just want more Zodd and Skull Knight. Best character's in the story, aside from Wyald, who I hope we get to enjoy in this movie adaptation.

?

It's been confirmed that the Berserk Saga Project is a meant to be a faithful adaptation of the manga, which eventually adapts all of the manga into animated form. It's meant to be a huge 10 year project, and the very first part of the project is a trilogy of films which covers the Golden Age arc. They have not confirmed if in future other arcs will be in the form of movies, or OVAs, or a TV series, but they will be adapted.

Yeah. I know he supposed to look feminine but this is ridiculous:

But isn't that like the manga. The first anime also had him look really feminine.

The first ever hint of this project came through word of Hirasawa meeting with Miura about Berserk, so I'm hoping like hell he'll do the score.

What the difference between boyish and feminine? Very little, if we are talking looks.

I liked the animated version, but they cut out a ton of background stuff from the original story (like Wyald).

I actually like to see something animated that is set after the eclipse.

Three films for the Golden Age? Kinda disappointed, but I suppose that's the most realistic solution.

I was hoping only the first movie would cover the anime. Though it would have to be super-condensed and three hours long lolz.

I don't get the CG hate. I've enjoyed Berserk for so long and this is going to be hopefully a stepping stone for more Movies in that universe.

I have no predisposition against cg, and as I said in the other thread, I think it looks pretty great with the exception of the siege towers. To be fair, greenscreen doesn't bother me much unless it is egregious, so maybe I just have low standards. Three films seems high, but depending on length and source cuts that will probably allow them to be quite faithful. I want to see post golden age, but since he will never wrap up the manga they will eventually catch up or have to stop, leaving another incomplete product, assuming it doesn't fail for other reasons.

So the Golden Age arc is basically what the original TV series covered right? It's cool that they're doing this, but I hope they do more after these movies to cover past that point.

if you can't wait, might as well read the manga past the golden arc. It's really worth it, and the movie won't necessary follow the mangas though.

I'm no anime purist but god the CG makes this series look like shit, it loses all its personality. Gone is the gritty animation style that gave this series so much character, replaced by CG so common in every other modern day action/adventure style anime. No thank you, I'll watch the original.

This is good to hear.

I wonder if there will be a time in 10 years when both the manga and the anime is completed. It's been such a long time coming.... it will bring a tear to my 30+ year old heart when it finally comes. :'(

(I am not over 30 now but in 10 years I will be)

More Berserk can never be a bad thing.

i really doubt 10 years is enough if they want to retain that movie quality and follow the 30+ volumes of comics without cutting any corners.

Hyperbole does not help your case. It's extremely difficult to translate Miura's hyperdetailed style to anime, and I think they'd done a good job being as visually faithful as reasonably possible to the series.

A lot of this feels like random CG hate.

Berserk is easily my favorite anime of all time. I wish we were getting another series as anime movies tend to feel rushed and have terrible pacing. After all this time, I'll take whatever I can get though.

Berserk is the only manga or anime ive liked and followed. I stumbled upon the anime on tv first and thought it was ok but i was disappointed that it ended abruptly. A read on a forum that i should read the manga. I had never read a comic book before this. But i was blown away. The art, the storyline, the characters, themes, worlds. Everything. This sold me on fantasy in general. i think it is as good as lord of the rings or game of thrones.

The the manga has some of the best art ive ever seen. Hyper detail.

This looks like it does it more justice.

Very easy, movie #1 will end with
the Zodd fight and him telling Guts to beware Griffith
. Movie 2
will end with Griffith getting captured by Midland
. Movie 3 will end with
the eclipse
.

He was involved even the PS2 game, what makes you think he won't be involved in this project which actually has a bigger scope than the PS2 game.

I liked what I saw.

I haven't read the manga which is supposedly rather good. This looks like something I want to watch.

One thing I love about the original manga is that it's very much in the style of the line-art from medieval art, only hyper-detailed. Already the anime will lose something in this respect, and you can't really avoid that.

But I think if the anime can stand on it's own it should do fine.

I don't know what his beef is either.

Maybe he doesn't want to see young girls having their limbs hacked off and being used as flag poles in glorious high def CGI?

Personally, I got no beef with Wyald. He's definitely my kind of villain.

Caska should not be a damsel in distress. Plus, I think he breaks the atmosphere of the final parts of the golden arc, suddenly reminding us that there is a supernatural force working its will on our characters.

I am fine with everything he did except his transformation.

Wyald killed the father, raped the mother and hacked off her limbs, stuck her on a spear and threw their kids into the hearth. What a glorious start for the monsters.

Do you want to remove Zodd too? Since he foretold Guts meeting with Wyald and the Eclipse.
Heresy.

No character should be removed. Everything should be as it was meant to be.

That also includes gratuitous violence and nudity in all it's glory. I hope they don't tone it down too much.

Heresy.

Zood has a really good medieval design working for him, makes him somehow believable in a low fantasy setting. But the monkey-thing that Wyald becomes is just to fantastic.
