Best 3 PC exclusive multiplayer games of 2012

For me, Planetside 2, CS:GO aaaand... I'm gonna go with Tribes: Ascend. It may have dropped off now but at first I was fucking loving it.

DOTA2 and Planetside 2 for reasons already mentioned. Don't have a third since those are the two I play most. CSGO if I had to pick a third(distant third).

Dota 2 has blown every competitive multiplayer game I've played out of the water with the exception of Team Fortress 2 and perhaps Unreal Tournament.

I hope to get into Guild Wars 2 though.

Edit: Oh yeah, the other two:

Torchlight 2
Tribes: Ascend

Killing Floor, if we're getting into games not released this year.

DayZ for sure. I've never had so much fun playing a multiplayer game on PC as I have with DayZ. Tense as fuck and hilarious when everything goes wrong.

Tribes: Ascend is immensely satisfying and unique. Too bad about the free 2 pay model.

I don't get this. What's wrong with Tribes F2P model? There's no chance this game would have done this well if you had to pay. Not after the games that came after Tribes 2.

Anyway, Tribes: Ascend, Guild Wars 2 and TF2 for me. Haven't played enought of PlanetSide and when I played I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

Chivalry fo sho

Getting new weapons (polehammer and flail), maps, and modes in January too

My pick almost the same as OP, except DayZ, which I'm looking forward to the stand alone one since ArmA sucks.

I'd put Path of Exile in second place to replace it.

1) Planetside 2
2) Path of Exile
3) Natural Selection 2

Put about 90 hours into this, and I rarely do that with multiplayer games.
I think the last one I spent so much time on was TF2( about 300 hours), but that was back before it was F2P.

Does Torchlight II count? I only played it for the first few days of its initial release, -I really should get back to it- but most of my time was spent in the multiplayer.

Well that's not nice since a Paradox title comes out every year and it's generally a personal GOTY.
I think CK2 takes the cake because of its accessibility. At least I was able to get into this one without hurdles. And the succession mechanic can turn your campaign around any second, which is just brilliant.

1.) DayZ - This game is great with friends and it's fun to go raid houses and such.

2.) Chivalry - Running in to decapitate an enemy while screaming. It's awesome.

3.) Torchlight II - I think the multiplayer in this game is really fun. I love how each person gets their own drops as well.

There have been some good ones this year.

I've been playing Dota 2 for over a year now and I can't even see myself getting bored.

Day Z was a incredible thing to stumble upon, seeing the thread back in April or so, linking my friends, us having amazing adventures in this game we all bought years ago on sale. SO excited for the retail release.

I'm real excited to get more into Chivalry after reading all these recommendations.

PLANETSIDE 2

Still can't believe the battles that happen in this game,
it's unlike anything I've ever played before...

You know in some FPS games there are crazy scripted events?
Well these events happen all the time in PS2 and they're done by other players...
Oh, and they're not scripted... :D

It's the best multiplayer FPS ever IMO,
and it's FREE, still can't believe that!

I need to go play...

Talking about Tribes, I noticed it is nowhere on the stats page on steam.. has its popularity completely died??

seems so! I just tried to login but failed to get any response from the server. It seems that the game is completely abandoned...

I feel really bad for Fatshark, first Krater got a poor reception due to some bad design decisions, then War of the Roses is just completely overshadowed by Chivalry :(

No, something's wrong with your install.

DotA 2

Possibly the most fun & exciting online multiplayer game I've played.
In terms of mechanics, strategic variety and competitive teamplay, there's nothing that even comes close.

1. MoP - best expansion so fa
2. D3 - rough start, but it's fairly enjoyable now
3. Tribes:Ascend - fun game

Would probably have been Dota 2, but alas, still no invite :(

Chivalry
Guild Wars 2
Firefall (I dunno, do betas count?)

Despite this, I've still probably put more time into Arcanum and Dark Souls than any other games this year... well, surreptitiously Chrono Trigger as well.
