The Good, The Bad, The Weird is an incredibly underrated South Korean spaghetti western action-adventure film that has some of the best action camerawork and stunts of the last decade. The climactic chase in particular is probably the best of its kind since the 80s, maybe rivaled only by the upcoming Mad Max Fury Road. The whole thing is a ton of fun.

where does one watch this movie?

Kick-Ass and John Wick were already mentioned. Well done.

Daredevil.

Alright you got me, I'll watch it.

is it trully this good?
i have my copy of kingsman sitting here i am going to watch or im gonna fire up the wii u and watch daredevil, this thread has motivated me to do one of these.

Just watch the one-shot fight scene. I don't think it stacks up to the real martial arts movie heavyweights, but for a western-made TV show it's pretty incredible. The rest of the series doesn't really live up to it, but that one fight scene is totally worth watching.

EDIT - Just checked IMDb and it totally counts: the almost-four-minute unbroken shot in The Protector is one of the greatest things ever committed to film. Four straight minutes of Tony Jaa killing dudes while climbing up a huge spiral staircase it a weird rich-people restaurant.

Daredevil hallway scene for reference:

The single shot actual going on for a bit longer than this, but that is the action portion.

It's a great example because of not only the awesome and realistic action we do see, but what we don't get to see as well.

the raid was just too humorless and serious for me to enjoy the fight scenes. i mean, i can tell that they were done well, but i was just bored by it all. maybe because that was all there was, so the effect wore off after the first 20 minutes.

but recent action scenes that impressed me are the church scene from Kingsman, Casino Royale parkour, Thor Dark World ending fight, Ghost Protocol climbing scene and prison break, Snowpiercer passing torch scene, first 20 minutes of Gravity, Godzilla fight scene, Drug War ending.

EDIT oh yeah, and a bunch from a bittersweet life, good bad and the weird, i saw the devil taxi scene.

Pacific Rim

The whole china sequence was incredible. Amazing buildup, multiple deaths(russian, china)

Cool as hell monsters. Gorilla monster EMPTY THE CLIP, ROCKET ELBOW. It just goes on and on the chill inducing moments. And is capped with the sword reveal. Just exhilarating.

Hell yes–forgot about this.

It's Pacific Rim if you're wondering.

The Raid. All the scenes were so visceral and it was the first time I saw that kind of martial arts in action.

So like, I really enjoy the first The Expendables movie. One of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Truck Chase

Yin (Jet Li) vs Gunnar (Dolph Lundgren)

It's pretty good

The climax of Avatar.

Okay so I've seen the daredevil hallway fight a few times and while I think it's a well done fight sequence, I don't understand the hype over it. Is this a scene that's more impactful if you watched episodes 1 and 2? The single shot approach is cool, with clever tricks employed to allow them to do cuts here and there, and perhaps people are liking the slightly more realistic tone of the fight, but for me it doesnt really warrant the GOAT mentions. Anyone care to share why they were so impressed? Maybe I'm missing something...

Wait. You watched it without any context?

FFS.

Why would you just watch that without any context at all?
Wait. You watched it without any context?

FFS.

I know, right?

Curiosity. And because it's from the second episode. Care to answer my question, though?

Pretty sure I already did.

If you somehow don't think that a well-choreographed, single-shot action sequence in a western TV show is impressive, or can at least understand why others would think it, then I probably couldn't say anything else to actually convince you otherwise. Like, any action sequence is immediately better when context is given, and if you don't have the context of that scene and the entirety of the preceding events in the episode, then you literally will not be able to appreciate how fucking cool that scene is.

I actually really dig the long take near the end of Children of Men. It was the first one that came to mind; after reading through the thread I think I might be alone in that opinion, but I still love it.

The fight between Rama and his brother vs. Mad Dog in The Raid 1.

That fight was just so goddamned intense, and every time you thought it was over the dude just kept coming.

Wait. You watched it without any context?

FFS.
I don't think it's unreasonable to assume someone's going to watch a fight scene in this kind of thread without watching whatever came before it, especially considering there's a Netflix video on Youtube with just the fight. Clearly they have enough confidence in it to amaze to post it on the internet without any context.

Personally, it didn't really do anything for me either, but I'll keep an open-mind when I eventually get around to watching the show. The way it was framed let us see everything clearly and play around with the space they had through literal off-screen action which was great, but unless there's some kind of narrative reason it was filmed this way I can't say I'm a fan.

I've never seen, but that was pretty good. Would you recommend as something an adult and a young kid could enjoy? Or not so much a kid's movie?

I think it is great for both audiences.

I don't think this is necessary my favorite action scene, but most of what I thought (IP Man, Raid, John Wick) have already been mentioned. So maybe the final fight from The Man of Nowhere.

Now, it is at the end of the movie so I suppose kind of spoilery and very gory, but it is cool.

There might also be a lot of animated sequences I am not thinking of now, like in Avatar: The Last Airbender or something.

I watched John Wick immediately after Raid 2, and I gotta say nothing in John Wick tops the kitchen fight in Raid 2. (John Wick is still pretty damn good with the action though, and the club scene is outstanding)

That clips out the stupidest red shirt in existence. Was he sucidal or something? That ruined the entire scene.

Come on. You know a guy like that. Admit it.

Man, I'm seeing lots of love for the club scene. Am I the only one who preferred the fight in his house?

Yup.

The only one ever.

No one else will ever have that opinion ever.

Joking aside, I can understand that. The house scene doesn't have a slow build-up. It just gets right into it.
